  1. You definitely shouldn't be experiencing this unless you're reel has problems. Now I'm not saying it's daiwa or you personally but if you have multiple reels doing the same thing it kind of points to something your doing. Maybe you bent the spool, maybe you did something to wear the gears out. I can tell you that any daiwa you pick in the tatula series should give you years of use even without proper maintenance you shouldn't be experiencing this. The CTS are great, I have a ctR and it's one of my favorite reels to date and I've got DC reels, curados, Lew's, zillions. I used to be a Shimano only guy until daiwa started stepping they're game up. But, you might also just be over thinking the resistance the lure you choose has. If you upload a video im sure we can key in on what your talking about. Does it happen when you use say a heavier Texas rig? That should cut through the water pretty easy.
  2. In the world of precision machining, it's a little more than breakfast banter. I gave up on lew's after I found out they moved there facilities over to China and aren't doing anything in the old Korean factories with the people who have 60 years of experience. You can move all the best machining tools and hobbing machines you want, without those same knowledgeable people putting these things together it gets lost in the sauce. This might just be a rumor but I'm pretty sure I got the lowdown not only from there new boxes but from insiders on another forum. Why would they do that? ?
  3. While Gerald Swindle is one of my personal favorites, he isn't the guy I would start taking FG notes from. He'll admit he's still new and was slow go get on the bandwagon. If you can take a fisherman like Gerald who is using this knot now you know it's good. He used to tie the red Phillips knot and it was actually a decent knot. It's super simple. If your using spinning gear, you really owe it to yourself to learn the knot. Actually, you should try anyway no matter the style you fish. Its actually a really easy idea, it's just connecting those dots.
  4. I keep finding features that I really love now. I'm gonna be around more often now. It seemed that from 9-6am every time I went to browse the Forum it would be down. This comes as a relief. Thank you again y'all
  5. Y'all did a wonderful job. Much easier to navigate and easier on the eyes too.
  6. I'm a braid + leader and fluorocarbon man myself. I haven't used mono other than to use for backing for a looong time. There are also so many advantages once you get confident using lighter braid then 65lb on casting gear. Maxcuatro is pretty small. I didn't realize how much smaller maxcuatro was and had to get used to it but what helped was it's a 4 carrier braid and doesn't tend to dig in. I use mostly casting gear and actually have to try to find rods with larger guides. .4 and higher give me more issues than .2. I've been using a long leader for a while now as well and the inertia seems to work out better.
  7. I would get an slx over almost any lew's but that's just me. If you get the SS LFS make sure your getting the one with the p2 super pinion. That to me made lews products all around better. I'm not a Shimano fan boy, or any fan boy for that matter. What I am is a shmuck for quality products. But, it has to be reasonably priced. I'm no steez hater, believe that but it's just not practical for me personally. I buy my stuff to use. And that's where it counts. Shimano: Slx (reg. XT, DC) curado daiwa: (Fuego, tatula) lew's: kvd (admittedly I find kvd gear to be pretty good unlike other pro models) SSLFS tournament mp, tournament slp. I personally would pick the tournament mp. When choosing lews I think it's imperative to make sure you are getting the new stock and an easy way to tell is most have the p2 pinion. Correct me if I'm Wrong, I'm not really into lews but have used and actually like the ones listed but not as much as I love my curado k or type r ct (which I thoroughly love)
  8. For me the biggest thing that effects my drag right now is line and type of hook. Drag is there for your benefit. I don't want to bend spool shafts or flex the gears. For all you braid only guys this is critical. I'm dirt broke most of the time anymore, I am the type of person that can and will save a dollar or even change for year for a new set up so breaking my gear hurts my wallet and my feelings. Hooks also play a role too. You can get away with lighter drag if using treble hooks (smaller). Or even using single light wire hooks and smaller ned rig hooks. I see many companies advertising 20lb drag but know from personal experience if you crack something hard enough with drag set that high you will ruin your baitcaster. Maybe not the 1st time but it'll happen eventually.
  9. I only mess with shimano and daiwa. Recently I've had an itch to try a lews tournament mp because it seems solid. The only thing holding me back is lews feel rickity and cheap ($50-$120). I used to use the pro qualifiers and they worked pretty well. They are very under brakes just like almost every cent./magnetic reel I've used. Which is why I have been pretty loyal to Shimano and daiwa. They don't have multiple brakes but they do the ones they use right and that's honestly made the world of difference. They also use aluminum gears and I'm just not a fan. That's why the pro qualifiers I stopped using.
  10. Amazing. Another man of tools. I am a diy fabricator and that's just so useful in so many levels. But that also kind of defeats the purpose with people who wrench that specific coin screw because using a coin it would be hard to break or damage it but for people who know how to use tools and are handy, that's an amazing little tool. Thank you for the information my friend.
  11. You don't need anything but a nickel. Resist using an actual tool because you can damage it. I've found over the years when you tell someone to lightly tighten something the word lightly can have many different meanings and is relative to the person. A coin you won't really be able to damage so long as you don't wrench it down until it hurts.
  12. Correct. You only need to turn the dial. I'm a huge fan of magforcez and svsinfiniti. Both I like better than DC braking. DC is way over hyped. Especially with how easy magforcez is and how well the new svsinfiniti is. It's no easier, just different.
  13. Only knot for any Fluorocarbon is the double pitzen. I also am pretty fond of the fish n fool and SDJ knot. There fish n fool is one of the only knots I've found to be great with all line.
  14. People get knot names wrong all the time. It's unfortunate that in the fishing world of no one corrects anyone they don't fix it. Or you hear "it's worked for me this long". The fact of the matter is people take corrections to how they fish as a shot at there manhood. It shouldn't be that way. We all have something to learn. That isn't a double uni, he is 100% wrong. It's just a clinch knot to clinch knot connection. I have no idea why he says to use this over just a uni to uni. With braid the uni really compliments the knot. I don't tie regular clinch nots ever, and I don't see anywhere in the best future that I will. They are old knots that work but have issues. Clinch knots can slip, it might be harder in this instance but still. Your not gaining anything by watching that video other than lost time. I see it all the time, even in pro fishing where you know they are full time trying to feed there families. You'd think they would be more on point, and maybe they are. Gotta always watch where your information is coming from. You get people who purposely try to throw people off. God bless you guys
  15. He's referring to the blood knot. The a branch off of the gt canned the j knot involves a clinch but not 2 like he said. The j knot is a great knot and so is the uni, but the uni to me has been replaced for what fish n fool calls his knot which is just an improved uni. My knot is a version of the gt/j but instead of wrapping just up I go at the actual wraps like an Alberto making the knot I've tied for years. It's got a small profile and can even get through things the FG gets stuck on, because of the bullet shape. It also beats the FG strength wise about half the time meaning it's got the strength. Have a great day y'all.
  16. I always check after each catch, and if I'm fishing heavy structure I check it every so often. I gave the nanofil away that I had left. I'm saving up right now to get a few spools for more testing. I broke my scale, so I'm waiting on the one I want to come back in stock. I put it through hell, it finally gave up. I wonder if anyone on here is interested in me doing line testing. That way we can eliminate the guessing work for people that are not as familiar. Now adays it can be pretty overwhelming to stare at the big line rack. I also have a PDF pamphlet I made just for the new guys.
  17. It's just how I categorize techniques/gear. Ultra light>light>medium light>medium>medium heavy>heavy>extra heavy. Finesse fishing for me is a technique involving ultra light-medium heavy 4# to 15# line. Now adays I feel like if your finesse fishing you have to be using Fluorocarbon or even braid to FC. I also think 15# is on the heavy side, but with Fluorocarbon I feel like it's still within the realm. Now that we have such great baitcasters you can now efficiently finesse fish with both casting and spinning gear. Have a wonderful day and God bless - lmsmbassaddict
  18. Depends. As a general rule of thumb i wouldn't dare use magnesium in salt water but they have made advancements in coatings that supposedly work. Mg gear is typically more expensive and I love taking care of my things so I'm gonna say it's probably not going to hurt to continue that rule. I don't care how good a coating is there fail.
  19. Nanofil is the most consistent line I've ever used. Although not in the way you would think. It's extremely consistent in being total garbage. Of course any line you play with you can make work for you. They had to r & d a knot specifically for that line because it doesn't hold a knot at all. I've seen complaint after complaint and usually I take that with a grain of salt. But in this case I was experiencing the same things people where complaining about. I think I'm gonna have to hard pass any line that you have to use a special knot just to use so long as there are lines like x5 & x9, power pro, jbraid, pro spec if you can find it still, and smackdown. I wouldn't feel right with myself to speak good on a line so terrible. That kind of stuff loses people fish. If anyone likes nanofil that's completely fine by me, but you owe it to this place up not just recommend the line, now you have to tell them all the caveats.
  20. Yeah if you go through the loop at the end 3 times you can get really close without having to worry about a snap off. The regular Alberto just doesn't hold up like when you pass the tag on through 3 times. I'm something like a knot and line savant. I can look at a knot for a few seconds and tie a perfect one the first try now. You want to know what I use over that knot? There FG with a rizzuto finish. The FG isn't the strongest knot like everyone says it is. It's definitely up there and it's slim. But the knot I created which is basically an altered gt mixed with an Alberto beats the FG half the time. If I was using leaders I would probably stick with the FG, my knot, Alberto and red Phillips. Those are the best of the best. If tied correctly you will never see break offs bass fishing. If you need help please just ask. I've also found some knots work better on different brands but not too the degree we really need to worry about except with nanofil which is straight trash. There are too many good 8 carrier lines available to have to use that stuff. Again, if you work long enough with it, you can get it working for you, but why when Berkley makes the new x9 which nukes any line they've ever made out of the water except pro spec.
  21. Brother, what ever works for you. I'm not trying to change ya! ? I only wanna help.
  22. I'm just wondering why you rizzuto finish an Alberto knot? I'm not saying your wrong or going it wrong and I'm not taking a shot at you personally. I feel like I have to say that because most people don't like to talk about line, knots, religion, and politics. I'm just kidding kind of. I just don't see the point. If you are worried about fraying issues or the knot coming undone why not just pass your tag through the loop 2 more times and it solves that issues ?. What ever works for you though, I am a sort of line/knot connoisseur.
  23. This is an easy way to do it. Just make sure it's taking longer from the top and over.
  24. I wouldn't go under 8lb fluorocarbon. And honestly I still look at a 3000 size spinning reel backed with tape or mono however you go about doing it to 30lb braid to a 8lb Fluorocarbon leader as finesse fishing territory. Also, what made you decide that going only finesse was a good idea? It's just like any other technique there is a time and a place for finesse fishing. I consider 8 to be on the lighter side of finesse along with 4 and 6. Up in the northern States it's been like that for a long time. But I can't tell you how many times I hear people say I lost one. I have yet to snap 12lb abrasx or invisx. Invisx is amazing for finesse spinning applications. Before theoretically throwing in the towel on any technique sit down and list what are important to you. You'll be surprised how many times I've done that and it's saved my butt. I prefer casting gear over spinning especially now. I used to really like spinning gear because back then the gear just was not where we are today. You can finesse fish just fine now that we have great Fluorocarbon, lighter shallower spools, and better brakes systems. And I'm only in my early 30s. I've been fishing since I could walk so even at my 30s I have been blessed with a ton of fishing growing up on a lake and river system. My advice is get a 3000 size spinning reel, a nice fast action rod, 30lb braid to 8 to 15lb Fluorocarbon of your choice. That will toss everything you need while still maintaining finesse elements. I would try to stay away from micro guides less you want to run just Fluorocarbon. -Bass Addict
  25. I just want to let everyone know that this line is legit. Level wound line looks cool but does nothing in terms of quality. It's the same old seaguar you've been using just in bulk spools. And to be honest I myself loved looking at the level wound line but in bigger spools it was more of a headache than anything. It might help (I don't honestly think it does a d**n thing) on smaller filler spools that get used in one go, but I noticed the level wound line would get wonky on spools that had 200+yards. I thought it was fake too, so the guy I ordered from gave me his account # with SEAGAUR. I am in the midst of creating a company that holds other line companies accountable. It's a service that's so over looked. You have to realize that fishing line, knots, and quality hooks effect fishing way more than most people give credit to. These companies will change things here and there and these things need to be noticed, tested independently, and passed on. Maybe we can all come together with line we all recommend. Like 4 Brands fluorocarbon, 4 Brands of braid, 4 of mono. We all take a vote every 6 months for those brands to be tested. I can't afford to buy all the line for testing so we would need some help from you these guys on the forum. I can tie every knot known to man and I keep myself in practice. (I'm a bit of a nerdy introvert).
