Ever catch a snake or a frog while bass fishing?
I hate a snake chasing after a zara puppy a few weeks back, it struck at it several times before I could get my lure back to the dock. It really was a site to see.

Lake Level Question
259' 4" should be your current conditions if yours is reported the same as mine. However, the biggest issue is going to be whether the level is rising or falling. Rising pushes fish shallow and makes for better fishing, falling pushes them deeper and makes fishing harder.

Your fish finding lure
7" motoroil powerworm. *gasp* searching with a worm? yes.

Best jighead style for heavy timber
weight really just kinda depends on how often you're gettin hung/how active the fish are. black/blue rarely fails.

Warning: You Might Get Your Arm Broke!
One more question... why rig it backwards? it seems that this would mess up the action.
-
Warning: You Might Get Your Arm Broke!
I understood as much, but was hoping that it did indeed fall backwards, even though I doubted it would.

before I buy any, does the Kreature fall backwards like a Fat Ika?

How to figure it out.
Im not sure whether or not the local lake has smallies. Its known as one of the better largemouth lakes in KY, but its in a private, gated neighborhood called Doe Valley, so not many people fish it. It is fed by several creeks, deep, (fairly)clear, rocky, and stays cooler for most of the year because of underground streams. It is full of shad and crawfish alike, which makes me think there should also be smallmouth, but I have never happened across any while largemouth fishing. What are some good techniques/lures that I can use to search out smallies on my next trip, but also still catch some LMB? If there are no smallies I dont want to waste an entire trip.

Lunker?
in KY people fish their entire lives and dont catch a 6 lber.

Question
I would say you need something that you can work quickly and then stop on a dime. Possible a suspending jerkbait? maybe a fluke. You get their interest with the quick retrieve and they cant help but bust it when you stop.

Lunker?
I believe "lunker structure"is an architectural term, it could have something to do with that. I also wonder if the term is related to "spelunker," like someone who explores caves.

Burning a palm tree and fish farting.
I thought the subject might gather some attention. Haha! But no kidding, the lesser known Kinami palm tree is Fat Ika knock off that I absolutely love to fish like you would a senko. However I tried "burning" a palm tree (with the occassional 3-4 second pause) in 3-4 feet of water over a rip rap bank, and absolutely killed them!!!!! I caught several 2-3lb fish in the neighborhood pond sometime during the pause. One of these fish that I caught, and was unable to grip by the jaw due to hook placement, literally farted on me while being unhooked. Dont ask questions, and I'll spare the details. Honestly , I was not sure that fish DID fart... but it did make for about 5 minutes of laughter from my girlfriend. Just thought I would share. PS This probably could have been posted under Fishing Tackle, My Fishing Trip, or general.... so I just picked one.

Lake Management
If you're catrching 30-50 fish and they are not extremely skinny, something is right in that lake. If you want to manage it for big fish you really should take some of the smaller ones out. If you dont want to eat them, use an old cooler and a cheap aerator as a livewell. fill it up every time you go and implant the fish into another lake. (my local pond sounds great!)

OK troops...what would YOU do???
you're in KY and not using a crankbait?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!!?!? Why don't you just go to Dale Hollow without a single Chart/White spinnerbait. Find a jointed crankbait or "broken back minnow" in a natural color and tie that on. Turn the reel as fast as you can a few times, then stop and twitch. Often times they'll bust it while you twitch. sounds like the fish are really active so a shorter twitching session is probably called for, but let the fish dictate how long it should be.

Your Worst Fishing Injury
Fishing buddy set the hook on a spook too early, flew back and hit me in the nuggets. thank god NO HOOK penetrated.

General fishing from the shore
nothing more exciting than a hollow bodied frog, and the situation you're describing is perfect for it. hop your frogs through all that thick stuff and hold on tight.

Rat-L Trap Tips

fishing a rubber worm
SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. when you think youre going too slow, slow down some more. for me"counting rocks" has been very productive. this past weekend I actually told my girl friend to drag the lure as slow as she could across rock and to count them as she did so. It turns out that this helped her focus and she caught 4 very nice bass.

Recent trip to the bait store
occassionally dingers will work better. nothing has the same fall rate as a senko... but what works depends on what type of fall rate the fish want.

Reel men throw pink!
earlier this spring i attempted to throw a bubblegum trickworm and eventually started laughing at myself. However, when I gave up and started using a spinnerbait on a different rod i kept missing fish and used the bubblegum trick worm as a "follow up bait." After 2 or 3 fish the bubble gum started falling apart so i switched over to green pumpkin. That was when my follow up bait stopped working. Back to the bubble gum and back to the fish I went. Two or three more fish and the action died, but if I had a boat to store all my rods in I would constantly have one with a bubble gum trick worm tied on to follow up on short strikers.
