  1. dsaavedra, The thing I would be worried about keeping maintained in your reels, would be the bearings. Reels made for salty or brackish environments, have sealed bearings packs yours do not. Especially if you have a ported spool on your citica. The water is getting into the spool support bearings, and down into the crank assembly in the reel. So if you are going to use it in salt, then be ready to brake it down every time. Aluminum and salt don't like each other.. Just my .02¢ Saltwater Maintenance Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  2. Wow did 11 years on the trails, if I had only known that was all it took, was another rod.... Tight Lines!!!
  3. Not really. It is the off balanced wobble that the reels posses. Besides being the first thing to wear out (if not serviced and maintained regularly). You can't have an infinite anti reverse with a trigger that must land up on the zero axis of the rotor to work. But then again if you learn how to open and close the bail with your hand, instead of a trigger. You don't have to worry about were the trigger lands, to be able to pick-up the line and open the bail simultaneously. Oh and BTW to trigger or not to trigger is personal preference no matter how you look at it. Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!!
  4. There were a couple of outfits on the left coast doing custom paint jobs on fishing reels. I for the life of me cannot find their bookmark. Robert might know who I speak of. If your looking for custom machine work on fishing reels, then I have no idea. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  5. No problem.. 8-) That section of the reel should be C&L every fall. Tight Lines!!!!
  6. MskSlyr, For me it takes 30 min to brake one down to just the frame, clean and lubricate it.... It is always better to have a qualified service tech do the work. But if your mechanically inclined and used to working in modules you can do it... "but never without the reels schematic in front of you". Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  7. MskSlyr, The grease that the reel was originally lubricated with, in the release rachet arm and pinion yoke areas is getting old. Time to clean and re-lube your reels. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  8. If you don't feel comfortable DIY then don't. You will need to contact: Silstar/Pinnacle 1141 Silstar Road, P.O BOX 6505 West Columbia, SC 29171 Phone: 803-794-8521 Ask for a list of satellite service centers.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  9. First get a hold of some quality reel oil. Add one drop of oil to; each spool support bearing or bushing, then add 1 drop of oil to each bearing shim (the metal or fiber piece behind the spool support bearings). (The bearing/bushing and shim under the cast control cap, and the bearing and shim in left side plate) Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  10. What are the production years on these reels? The ABEC designation isn't a bearing make, it is a bearing rating ie: ABEC3, ABEC5, ABEC7 etc. Doing it yourself, isn't hard as long as you have the tools to remove the spool engagement pin without bending the spool shaft, $45.00 and up for spools. It would be best if it is done by a qualified reel tech. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  11. The Sportfisher 450 ZR is a discontinued Garcia® reel. They were sold as blue water combos. I Googled one up... You could get a used combo on E-bay for about 24.95 and then you would have parts. But I doubt that you will find just a crank for that old potmetal reel, and even if you do find just a crank it will probably run around $20..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  12. I think he is just mad and venting, may have lost a good fish to broken line, or losing money on expensive lures, and venting looking for an alternative line. I personally would like to now whether or not he has checked the line carriage ceramic on his reels, and the shock rings in the guides of his rods, and what he found... :-? Tight Lines All!!!
  13. flippingjig, Do you have the schematic open on this reel? Because it will tell you what screws hold that side plate. If you don't I wouldn't open that reel without it. You have 3 screws. Schematic key; #8 gear side cover screw-B (x2) key; #23 gear side cover screw-a (x1). Don't lose any parts.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  14. here ya go...... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  15. BobKavanaugh, To add..... If the grips coloring hasn't turned gray, and still has some color to it. You could try plastic wood filler in golden oak color, I will add I have never used the plastic filler idea, but quite a few builders on the rod building forums do. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  16. Click the link in my signature line and ship it to me.... I'll be glad to take care of it.... Tight Lines!!!!
  17. Sounds like your partner blew out the AR system in the reel. If the reel is one of the older 500PT's, then I would suspect that using the braid and a heavy drag setup on the reel, has caused the AR bearing to bust lose in the side plate and rotate. I would recommend you retire that reel, and get it to your local service people that work Quantum®, or get it shipped to Quantum® for service. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  18. Yup it is the heavy $59 version of the Viento.. Now they have gimmicks in both high and low end reels..
  19. I don't doubt that at all. With all of the replies that I have read to questions about proper setup of LP BC reels. I would say the majority of the anglers still haven't got it right...... :) I have 2 S-L's that have the 6 pins. When I setup my reels, I place all of my brake pins off to set the free spooling (drop rate) of the lure i'm using, first. Then I set my brake pins. I have even turned my pins off, and set the Cast Control, test casted and no backlash with a 30 year educated thumb. It is basically the same with the mag settings on the SX-HS. First you set free spooling (CC), then set the mags either in the middle 50% or on the light side 30% and test cast. If your getting over runs from that setup then add more brake (unless you have a very educated thumb). You don't set brakes then try to set the free spooling through Cast Control Cap settings. One other thing for him to think about, with all the heavy pressure setting adjustments he has set on the Cast Control Cap, I would suspect that the shims and shim backer inside the cast control cap have been effected also, and he probably still won't get a good setup that will stay put. Tight Lines!!!!
  20. Not likely! I agree with Olebiker, most likely a bad initial reel setup, and maybe even a miss-match on the rods ratings. You don't set CC with the mag brakes on. Turn the mags off, then set the free spooling with CC, then set the brake at 50% and test cast, if your getting over run then set the mags again at 60% and keep doing so until the backlashes stop. If you don't get any satisfaction that way then set the mags at zero, and start with the CC free spooling, and set it a little tighter (slower fall rate), and then set the mags at 50% and test cast. Basic Baitcast Reel Setup 101 8-) Just my .02¢ Tight Lines All!!!

  22. Take it back to were ever you purchased it, you might get it replaced NQA... If not depending on how much was broken off. Here is an Article - Rod Tip Repair Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  23. I agree with RW, sounds like a timing and practice issue.. Keep Practicing & Tight Lines !!!!!
