  1. As a rod builder I will add.. Yup you could do a split grip conversion on that rod. But be fore warned you will change the balance of the rod and what ever is eating your cork will not stop.... Good luck in your endeavor.. Tight Wraps!
  2. Like Ronnie, I use denatured alcohol (because it lifts grease and grim easily without needed saturation of the cork like soap and water), and a coarse cotton wash cloth. Sealing the cork with a light coating of U-40 cork sealer, will make annual cleanup easier and shouldn't cause the grip texture to change as it is absorbed. Sounds like the builder used to heavy of a coating...Tight Lines!!!
  3. Sure can (with rod building experience quite easily) but if you don't have any rod building experience, it would probably be best if you search for a local rod repair person or rod builder (usually connected to a local mom&pop tackle shop) to do the job properly. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  4. IMPO once the reel is properly cleaned and the lube used just like any other. Using the HS grease only on the main gear teeth, one drop of HS oil on bearing packs and shims. Quite a few... 8-)
  5. Chris, On it's way...............................
  6. Sorry man I have to disagree with your system, and I think Mike (DVT) might agree with me 27 years of doing reel service... The manufacturers drag rating on ANY reel is a result of the reel mounted on a rod lined and then setup onto a scale. It is NOT hanging it is a lifting/pulling drag. All readings are done in an actual fish fighting setup...
  7. Yes OutDoor World Rod & Reel Repair is BPS' warranty service center, but I would check the local sponsor here first.. Delaware Valley Tackle http://delawarevalleytackle.com/ If they can't take care of the reel then I would replace... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  8. Personally I wouldn't use either on Hybrid PT bearings. But with that said.... 8-) Both are/can be hazardous to your health even in small amounts. Use them wisely in a WELL ventilated area. In my shop I use Safety Kleen degreaser (none carcinogenic) which is filtered, I also use gloves and a mask for the deep cleaning. So no matter what you use be as safe as possible.. Keep both away from flame! Tight Lines!
  9. Chris, I would suggest that when we get the Hot Sauce to you, you deep clean those spool bearings. Acetone will get the old Hot Sauce out of them (a couple of good soaks), then one drop of the new HS into each bearing as needed.. Tight Lines!!
  10. Next time you go to see the reels in the store, take the rod you intend on using the reel on. Mount it and check the balance, it will be the most important measurement you can get of how the system will feel. Don't put so much into bearing counts.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  11. Chris, IMPO I wouldn't use it. If it is a PT reel then check your PM's Tight Lines All!
  12. Chris W. E-mail me and I will make arrangements to get you some of my oil and gear grease to you, just cover shipping.. Tight Lines All!
  13. I have serviced 100's of them since they made their debut in 02... Shimano Bantam Castaic Line Capacity: 8/200;10/170;14/125 Gear Ratio: 6.2:1 Weight: 9.0 (oz) Bearings: 4BB, 1RB Additional Features: Aluminum frame, Aluminum spool, super stopper, VBS, Instagage MSRP: $139.99 Tight Lines!
  14. I agree with DVT send it in for service......
  15. That's not all of the story, read the current post on the blog..... http://northforkcomposites.com/blog/....
  16. 15:1114 Trademark Infringement
  17. ..Agree 100% I recommend only quality reel oil for any lubricated parts exposed to the elements (level wind worm gears etc.)..Tight lines!
  18. listened to your vids, in the second one it didn't sound like scraping or rubbing it sounded like under-lubricated pinion bearings working under torque...Probably the result of wide/lose tolerances in manufacturing.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  19. IMPO the 5.1:1 GR Curado is the crankin reel. The others are geared for quick retrieves not heavy torque on diving baits. If I remember right my 6.2:1 reels all feel rough under heavy torque from CB's. Actual CB GR's are 5.1:1, 4.5:1, 3.8:1..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  20. As the spool moves (oscillates) in & out while you are cranking the reel, the lip of the spool (if you crank slowly and watch the spool) will move toward the rotor. Watch carefully to this area and you will see the spool edge make contact with the rotor. Some manufacturers will put in the reels box some extra shim's (sometime black sometimes red ones). Remove the spool and you will see them on the spool axle at the spool clicker. If the MFG added some of the shims in your spools box add one, this is called adjusting the oscillation (in & out movement) of the spool. You don't make mention of the reels manufacturer... If the mfg didn't add any spares, or they didn't add any and there isn't any on the spool axle of your reel, I would return the reel to the retailer... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  21. Not a bad rod, just not St.Croix's better (Avid) or best (LTB or LE). The Mojo is built on the same blank as the Premiere (SCII graphite). The only difference between the two rods are the split grips on the Mojo and the Premiere is built in the USA... If I remember right the Mojo is still Designed in Park Falls and handcrafted in Fresnillo, Mexico.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  22. The (Bantam 10XSG & Bantam Mag 10XSG) were manufactured in the 1980's and are discontinued reels (no parts available). At that time they were used mostly for light weight spinnerbaits and worming techniques. The gear ratios were in the 5.1:1 and the gears (especially the pinion) will wear out quickly in a cranking setup..I would recommend that you look at the reels of today to use in your cranking endeavors. Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  23. In the reels write up this is the give away text to who the mfg is. "ACS II cast control provides long true casts." that is a Quantum TM... One thing to research before purchase, is after the purchase is there service & parts for the reel/s.They are considered by many service shops as re-brands and are NOT supported by the factory that tooled them... Tight Lines!!!
  24. Check your drag spring washers. They are probably starting to flatten out.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
