  1. Save yourself a possible hassle and by a book.! Good Luck....
  2. is fairly common practice for rod builders. Not necessarily so, mostly used by rod owners.... I know a lot of custom builders including myself that don't like the extra bulk, not to mention the ugly looks of an over sized cap. We all like using the lead weights that can be purchased that fit into the blank by removal of the old original poly butt cap. Can also be inserted to balance at the time of a build upon request by the client. Just an old builders .02¢
  3. Nice work!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey bubba, as a custom builder I have been using FC standard for all of my builds (14yrs+). Over time you get a system of mixing and application, along with bubble release. The best you can do is to keep working with whatever product you feel comfortable with and your system with time/practice improves. Tight Wraps!
  5. Medium power (backbone), mod fast - fast tip action....... Tight Lines!!!
  6. I know I wasn't asked, but another reason would be the condition of the crank paddles, and whether or not they were bearing driven. Just an old timers .02 cents Tight Lines!
  7. IMPO I would NOT use HS in any Shimano reel. The oil and grease are manufactured with a Teflon base in both and was made for the Hybrid PT bearings that Quantum uses in their upper end reels. Use the oil that came with the reel and you will have no problems.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  8. If this is the reel/s first servicing, I would recommend that the reels be serviced by a professional, but if you must DIY. I would recommend that you have each reel/s schematic/s in front of you before you even start. The thumb screw on the top is to open and remove the palming side plate, and spool. Remove the crank assembly, then there are 2 screws on the outside of the crank side cover, and, one pan-head screw on the inside of the spool race that also holds the crank side plate on. Remove those 3 screws and the crank side cover will lift off. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!
  9. Not So! Reels we service (25 yrs. experience) are broken down to just the set-plate, deep cleaned (hand scrubbed), polished, and, re-lubed. Proper lubrication is grease on gears, sliding parts, and, oil on bearings packs, shims, worm gears, and all threads. I would hope that your not sending your reel/s to any shop using JUST OIL! Use communications to keep service updates going between you and your service shop.It really isn't as involved as many make it out to be.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  10. Another good reason to do a quick line wrap when traveling/running. Is to keep any baits tight against the blank so as not to allow the weight/baits to bang against the blank and causing the next weak spot for blank failure. Tight Lines!!!!
  11. Something like this............... Good Luck Tight Wraps!
  12. An old school rule of reel service, "never add any grease to moving parts that are exposed to the elements"............ Tight Lines!
  13. Have posted this here many time over the years.. Direct post from rod builder/component manufacturer Andy Dear on rodbuilding.org Tight Lines All!
  14. IMPO as a custom rod builder, I would recommend that anyone looking to get into rod building, purchase and read cover to cover the book written by Tom Kirkman suggested above before ordering any components. It is the one book written for beginners in this art, and will answer most if not all of the questions any newbie in rod building will ask. Good Luck & Tight Wraps!
  15. Parts orders are handled differently than a reel sent in for servicing. Most likely the guys in the repair dept. will replace the whole bail assembly (bail arms, line roller, and bail wire) rather then just changing out the bearing pack. Tight Lines!
  16. Not really, come on down some day, and, I'll show you a couple of the ones we build.... Tight Lines!!!!
  17. Pro tuning service has turned all of my green Curado 200B's into super casting reels, some even out casting NEW E series Curado's... Tight Lines!
  18. As a custom rod builder........... All depends on the rod model and length... Tight Lines!
  19. Smoooth Drag Carbontex none better! Have been listed on their site, and, selling them for years.. Tight Lines All!!!
  20. .............
