  1. Know who makes the RX8 blanks for Batson Ent.?? Primus, Thanks for the kind words on the reel service, when you send the others we will be ready... Been doing a lot of upgrades lately.... Tight Lines!!!
  2. zdunham, What reels? Oil for bearings and grease for gear teeth. Follow your reels manual, looking for oil, grease, tools, etc. look here. http://www.***/shopping/storefront.html Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  3. Primus, IMPO that is the best way to have custom rods built. Meet with the builder and be able to view his/her works and feel the components that are available from that builder. While it can be done on-line with extreme care, live in person (talking. measuring, etc.) is still a better experience. I know that my clients have more fun going through my many examples that I have stored down stairs, than just looking at what's on my rod site. Make sure you take the reel you want to use on this rod your builder will appreciate that... Keep us informed of how the build goes and what kind of experience it was.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  4. Yea I have built on and used Batson Ent. blanks (still have about 6 of the rods) long time ago.. They are a good blank (depends on the series) but there are tons of good blanks out their. Mostly build on St.Croix, and Gary Loomis's new NFC (North Fork Composites) blanks now... Who is the builder? Tight Lines!!
  5. Had the S-Lefty, nice reel but sold it off to get a couple more green 201 Curado's. Nice reel though... Tight Lines!!
  6. brushhoggin, A little reference reading for ya..... http://www.***/education/baitcaster-setup-101.html Tight Lines!!!!
  7. The pinion gear base is supposed to sit inside the pinion support bearing, and doesn't but just sits on top of it tell's me the gears are not going to work. If the pinion base is sitting into the support bearing like it should, as bantam1 suggested for you in the support forum that the yoke could be the problem and the pinion is grinding on it... I have made many gear set changes lately and have found that the pinion gear when changed needs to have the pinion yoke changed along with drag and key washers, it isn't just the gears that get changes... Good luck with your upgrades.. Tight Lines!!!
  8. I can almost guarantee that it will be more tip heavy than with the full length grip.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  9. Like Hammer 4, I use anywhere from 5.1:1 to 6.2:1 depending on whether or not I am slow rolling on points.... Tight Lines!!!
  10. Try a little reading.... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546 There are some mighty fine articles in the "Best Of" BassResource.com section at the top of every forum..... Tight Lines!!!
  11. There is the rub...Your comparing the crank on a well broken in gear set to a new gear set. That is a bad assumption, I have seen 500.00 Shimano's that were also not smooth and had noisy gear sets.. No your not, try fishing the reel and breaking the new parts in.Good Luck & Tight lines!!!!
  12. Don't need no Shimano or new line.... Says to me the reel isn't setup right, it isn't the lines fault. You set the reel to cast short cast one way, and you set up the reel for long casting another way. Sounds like you could tighten the cast control when your trying to long cast, setup loosely and the spool on the initial start up will let line lift off of the spool, and will slightly cross over and settle and lock onto the next coil and cause the abrupt stopping of the spool. Also could be the rod is to short/stiff for the setup to cast light lures, small dia. line long distance. Just a thought......... Tight Lines!!! [pun intended]

  16. We are re-sellers for Smooth Drag and I will bet they don't carry bulk or sell bulk materials that I know of. But i'll bet if you send them the drag pad your referring to they could have it cut for you (for a price)..... FYI: BPS service comes from Outdoor World Rod & Reel Repair http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=40&option=2 Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  17. Never just use whatever!!! Deep clean the bearing pack and use a QUALITY reel oil. http://www.***/shopping/shop/store/reel-repair-supplies01.html WD-40 isn't a good cleaner it leaves a residue behind.... For deep cleaning you can use a safe product like Simple Green and super hot water (making sure to rinse well and dry well). Or you can take the less safe way and use what others would generally recommend like Naptha (lighter fluid), or Acetone. Making sure they are dry also, before re-oiling.. Tight Lines All!!!
  18. It is called the pawl cap (not a Line guide nut), and it is only finger tight. Tight Lines & Lot's O Turkey!!....
  19. You didn't post that above 2 days ago. So all is well then, prob solved..... The first tell tale sign of a Garcia® reel (needing service or pawl replaced) is the line carriage hanging to one side or the other. Tight Lines!!!!
  20. The reel needs serviced!! Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  21. Brand new they ran NIB $269.99 seen them on different forums flea markets at lowest of $170.00 What would I look for.. First ask if it has ever been serviced, if not then 1) set the cast control cap just tight enough to have no lateral play in the spool, set all brakes to off. Then hit the thumbar and spin the spool, if you have about 10 sec of free spool the reels spool bearings has been properly lubed if not then someone. 2) check the drag star to see how tight the drags are kept at while stored. then check the drag loosen the drag star until you can thumb the spool and crank the handle freely, then slowly tighten the star and crank while thumbing the spool and feel how much you have. If you can do this and feel the adjustment no matter how small they are then the drag pads are still good. 3) if you are going to have the reel in your hands I would take my rod and mount it to do some test casting, this will give you an idea of how the reels feels mounted on the rod you intend to use it on it will also give you a chance to set the reel up and cast it to see just how it will feel fishing. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!!
