Fixing bent rod guides?
You can try to bend them back but it will not be the exact same as it was originally. The guide wraps could have been hurt when the epoxy cracked. The best way is to cut off the damaged guides check the rod blank for damage and re-wrap NEW guides in place... This isn't anything that can be done by you (unless your a rod builder), or any local tackle shop (unless they build rods).... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

Freshwater Rod used in the salt?
All great info here.. Just an after thought.. After the rinse and dry, a coating of silicone is applied to the blank and guides.. (I use a Birchwood Casey® Gun & Reel Silicone Cloth) http://www.birchwoodcasey.com/sport/index.html Tight Lines!!!

Drag Setups
8-) The only time I back my drags off so there is zero pressure on the pads (can spin the handle while holding the spool) is when I am storing for long periods (like over winter). Other wise some do it after each outing and some don't. But it is a good habit any way it is done... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Drag Setups
Yup! Mount the reel on the rod, line the rod and pull from the rod tip. A good spring loaded scale hooked to a loop on your tag end of the line. Using the rod to lift the tip like fish fighting. Monitor the scale as to how much it takes to get the drag to slip, then adjust accordingly. 1/3 the lines tested strength. Do not use WD-40 on ANY reels internals, you can use it sprayed onto a rag for a wipe down but nothing more.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

Adhesives on fishing rods, what do I use to glue cork to the blank??
I have seen rods that used Gorilla Glue that didn't get the right amount spread and didn't get it all cleaned up, it caused gaps between the rings. It isn't the amount you use as much as the proper way to prep the rings and blank for adhesion. Get them prepped right and a ultra thin layer will hold a very long time.... I have had the opportunity to see the work of new builders that use other 2 part brands that weren't water proof and not made for rods (heavy flex), after a season of heat rain and drying the grips came lose and gapped. Waterproof is a must and don't let anyone tell you different..... Tight Lines!!!!

Favorite Grease, and oil.
I don't work for Shimano® and am not a warranty service shop for them. My oils won't I know that for a fact. The HS from Quantum® I have heard could but not sure. The rest I would doubt they affect it. Best to run that question by the horse' mouth.. Tight Lines!!!!

Adhesives on fishing rods, what do I use to glue cork to the blank??
Building or repairing cork grips is done in my shop with a waterproof 2 part rod builders epoxy (Flex Coat), crazy or super glue isn't water proof. The hard part is preparing the cork & blank for adhesion. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Quantum Pulse spinning reels
From the info I have found they were first launched in spring of 2002. This tells me they are a discontinued reel, and, probably don't have any factory support any longer... No experience with them. That's all I know..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Bearing cleaner
I wouldn't use any of them they are cancer causing agent and bad for YOUR health and the environment. Alcohol isn't a grease cutter, I would use Simple Green (found in any Home Box Store or Birchwood Casey's Reel Scrubber Found Here.. The dis assembly of the reels bearing retainer springs in a large baggies is a great way to keep them from rocketing across the room and learning how to carefully remove them. baitcaster rods
There are some bait casting rods that do use a trigger less reel seat, they are more suited for deep rod holders. The best way to tell the differences between a trigger less bait casting rod and a spinning rod are the guides and the fact the reel mounts under slung on spinning rods. Tight Lines!!!!

Spinning into casting
While some builders still take the Effective Spine** of a rod into consideration most are now building using the straightest axis Spine ** Or "Effective Spine" is an effect created by several manufacturing anomalies. The result is that the rod blank will favor bending along a particular axis when load is applied. To answer the posters question, yes you can make a casting rod out of a spinning rod. But like has been stated, you would have to remove the large single foot spinning guides and re-wrap new smaller profile casting guides. This without proper preparations of the blank could be costly down the line with failures. Best to leave the rod the way it is and as stated purchase a casting rod... Tight Lines!!!

Shamano reel servicing
I see from the schematic that the reel is a 2 bearing 1 bushing spool support reel from (87). The things that could be done would be upgrade of the bearings to ABEC5 and the measure/upgrade of the busing (palming side plate) to ABEC5 bearing pack. The drag pads probably can also be upgraded (custom cut from Carbontex) but I probably would have to test it to see if the AR dog could hold anymore backward torque from hook set or heavy fish fighting on quality newer drag pad composites.... Then of course all the polishing of the reel... PM me if you need more info............. Tight Lines!!!

Do you loosen drag after each use?
NO! Only when the reels is going to be stored over a long period of time (ie winter), or is going to be put in my backup box....... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
