Split Grip Handle Kits For New Build rod
Have never used Mud Hole's split grip kits. Have always turned my own. Don't know what the mounting tube is, do know the seat is a ECSM 17 (exposed casting seat 17mm ID).. Me I would want to know if the seat is a Fuji series II and not one of the older ECSM's, that had a hard time holding most reel feet solid... They say in the write up the kit handles start at 201/2" and can be shortened, as for the seat, the front threads can be cut to shorten the span to match shorter reel feet dimensions. Just the .02 of an old builder.... Good Luck & Tight Wraps!

Rod blank suggestion
If you have never built a fishing rod, then I would suggest a read of this little article from "Best Of" BassResource.com...... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1242835952 I will say this up front, you don't build the rod and then try to match a reel to it. All custom rods are built to the reel that is intended for use with the rod.... I have built on every St. Croix blank that has come down the pike for the last 14 years. The SC3 series blanks (Avid) are by far the best of the line up and I always recommend them to my tourney rod clients... Many will say the upper end of the seiries SC4 SC5 are better and lighter, but that is only because they carry thinner blank walls which make them more brittle. They actually have to be babied more.... Just a old builder's .02¢ Good Luck!..

Rod build promblem
From the size of that first guide, looks like the rod is setup for a 1000 series spinning reel. What size reel are you trying to build the rod for. I have found most all of the 7'ers I have built balanced really well using 2500 series reels. Did you tape the reel intended for use to the blank before building, just to check the balance? Like Keith stated might be better to just pick up more components and do another build... Good Luck & Tight Wraps!!

Rods and reels.. How many do you take with you when fishing from the bank?
When at the waters edge only 1, have 6 loaded and ready in my truck. Like you I have some problems with knees and hip, I walk banks with a cane. Knowing exactly what I need at any given time of the season or spot will help, I have all the rods setup for that time and spot and will be able to get to other rods easily enough if one setup doesn't do the trick. Shimano Core Anyone?
Because you learned the right way......

my DT Sol is killing me.
Yup there is the prob. Had done one-way bearings like that for years when they first came out (middle 90's). Do not know what changed but all of a sudden the one-way packs didn't like the grease and when I switched over to a light oil swab things really got a lot better.. I blow my one-ways out with 60psi on my compressor, the only time I have ever had the pin bearings come out is if the pin bearing frame is damaged. You can see the pressure point that keeps the pin bearing in place, if it is damaged the pin will fall out no matter how you try to hold it during re-assembly... BTW none of this should be done on the dinning room table, you need a well lit work area with room to do it right... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

St. Croix Mojo Rod
5'6" SCII MF spiral wrap 7' SCII MF spiral wrap.. I have built some of my personal rods (spinner bait & weightless top water jerk bait) on the same blank that is used in the Mojo (SC2 Premiere), for the price point it is a well made blank and is very sensitive depending on how it is built. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

my DT Sol is killing me.
Nope the one-way is part ref.#84 and, the sleeve is part ref.#83. The ref. part #85 is the crank support bearing pack. You will need to brake the reel down if the one-way will come out then remove and soak in a good de-greaser super hot water and simple green (no alcohol or acetone or the likes).. This bearing pack is mostly poly/graphite with pin bearings do not use anything that will eat up the pin bearing frame. Clean it and dry it well then use an oil saturated q-tip and swab the inside only a couple of time that's it..... re-assemble the reel and you should have a solid AR... Yup, put that SOL in a box and send it to jfrancho, he runs Reel Smooth Reels, this guys like a Houdini when comes to tuning Thanks for your support... :-?Good Luck & Tight Lines All!!!

my DT Sol is killing me.
When you say not anti-reversing, is the crank turning a complete revolution in reverse? If so then your One-Way bearing has let go, or you have lubricated the One-Way and you shouldn't have.... If the crank has just got a couple of millimeter reverse play in it, that is the tolerance that the one-way bearing is built with, no biggie.... Tight Lines!!!

screeching noise on my cardiff
Just follow what Bantam1 suggested, I have found that bushing behind the engagement pin dries out and can cause a squeal. Another fix would be to replace the bushing with a properly lubricated stainless steel bearing pack... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

maintenance
Thank you all for the kind words.... Yup there are tons of ways to learn maintenance for your reels, I support anyone that has purchased my book with help anytime they send me an e-mail with a problem they run into. Understanding how to disassemble and re-assemble reels is only part of it. Understanding the modules and how they work is a big part. The one thing we have found since writing the book is that once the angler understands the internal layout and works of their reel/s they seem to be able to use them in a more efficient manner... Our Reel Oil that we sell is in the same viscosity range as Shimano's oil (great for any stock ABEC3 and upgraded ABEC5 bearings).. Our Lithium Gold gear grease is specially formulated to not be effected by heat or cold, and will give tell tale visual signs when ready to be cleaned and re-lubed (turns dark golden).. We really recommend the Reel Scrubber. Because it is under pressure to help in the cleaning process by knocking any hard to remove grease from parts, plus it evaporates with very little if any residue left behind... Good Luck & Tight Lines All!!!

upgrade parts for reels
Ok guys I don't normally do this but here... Merry Christmas... BTW I carry ABEC5 Stainless Steel Smooth Bearings, better than the ceramics for reel bearing upgrades, unless you have been fishing with a dremel tool/RC motor hooked up to your reel you DO NOT NEED ceramic bearings..... Fuego supertuning
Having done a ton of upgrades on Daiwa reels older and newer. Like J Francho stated, super tuning is actually a cleaning/polishing process best used on older reels (2000 or earlier) with fixed one piece spool shafts that actually run through the cast control bushing/bearings. The only thing that can be done to the Fuego is upgrades like Raul indicated.. Tight Lines!!

self adhesive decals bite!
Not a good idea...... The number one problem with that technique is that you are putting soap onto the blank when it isn't even advisable to use denatured alcohol before any finish/decal aplication is used on the blank. Nothing is applied to a rod blank before any use of finish. This is a hard and fast rule of custom rod building. That is why we use a wetting agent like Micro Set for the placement of the decal, and, Micro Sol for thinning of the decal to conform to unevenness.. Tight Wraps All!!!

self adhesive decals bite!
Yup the reason I feel Micro Sol is a help, is because no matter how level it looks (finish) it isn't.. Micro Sol changes the makeup of the decal material and thins it enough to conform to small imperfection in the finish or the area that the decal is being applied to... The main reason imperfections in peel & sticks show is because they are basically made for placement onto the bare (level) blank, not a layer of finish then the decal and then more finish. Its the small imperfections showing up that cause you to see the decal edges or even the main body of the decal... Tight Wraps All! David.....

Orange Seal bearings: Re-Review
I agree with J Francho, The revo-sx is a one piece spool shaft, revo stx has a 2 piece shaft, revo-premiere has a 2 piece shaft, revo-s has a 1 piece spool shaft, revo-inshore has a 2 piece spool shaft. The number #49 part is the second piece of the 2 piece setups. The need for bearing changes in the reels with 2 piece spool shafts aren't necessary. BTW the 2 piece spool shaft setup used in some of the Revo' was first introduced by Daiwa® Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

self adhesive decals bite!
Hey flechero, Ever try Micro Sol on the thicker peel & stick's, it always helped with the St.Croix and older Loomis stickers. Another thing to try is stop looking at rods under such close scrutiny, and take it outside and look at the rod under the same conditions that other anglers are going to see it. Finished up the first run NFC blank I got, looks good even with Gary's new peel & stick on it... Just a thought... Tight Wraps!...

Anyone try fishing rods made with Batson Blanks ?
Yup, their up and producing, they don't sell direct they have 3 US distributors, Angler's Workshop, Bingham Enterprises, Mud Hole Custom Tackle, and 1 Australian, Australian Rod Manufacturers .. Just finishing up on one of the Inaugural Run (first 35) blanks. Tight Lines!!!

Anyone try fishing rods made with Batson Blanks ?
Only in this decade.I was building (02-03) on the then US produced Rainshadow blanks that were rolled by Cascade Graphite Composites virtually across the street from Batson. The Forecast were then and still are the import blanks from China. As a matter of fact the last 6 Rainshadow blanks I purchased in 2005 had made in China stickers on them, the main reason I switched to St.Croix nd now to NFC. Not going to argue here but they don't build anything. Yes they do sell them to any rod mfg for rebranding, Kistler, G-blank, Cabela's, etc.BTW the RX8 is made by St.Croix
