  1. Setting the drag appropriately and you can catch them on 6 lb. WRB has caught tons of giants on 10 and 12 lb big game. I generally use 20 lb braid to 15 lb fluoro. I’m in the south where you might be pulling in more than bass though.
  2. 2 fish, missed another before giving up with the wind.
  3. Same. She usually brings a book and reads between netting fish lol.
  4. Some of y’all need to relax. A beer or a drink doesn’t equal intoxicated. Of course you shouldn’t get drunk or intoxicated out on the boat. But a beer? Come on.
  5. I bought a 2008 tracker 175 tx two months ago 5k. I think they’re asking too much for a boat 13 years older.
  6. Managed a couple bites before the wind made me call it. Not very fun when the wind weighs down your rod lol.
  7. Is fishing decent that far up the river? I live near Savannah now but am always down to “visit” the grand parents.
  8. My grand parents have a place on doctors lake in Fleming. Never have bass fished it though ?
  9. All mine better than 4 lb came on Texas rigs. My PB 9 lbs came on a ol monster 1/4 oz weight, had a 6 lb on a magnum ultravibe speed worm 1/4 oz weight.
  10. Definitely agree there, when you birds nest braid you have a mess that’s terrible to get out.
  11. The “better” part in my experience is that mono tends to spring off the spool at times, even on a bait caster. I use braid to a long fluoro leader for pretty much all my setups and have done better than I did running straight 10 lb big game.
  12. I disagree regarding casting distance, braid casts much better (and farther) than the other two. Admittedly that’s only if you compare the same lb test across the board as braid is thinner. I think we can all agree bigger thicker line costs you casting distance.
  13. Just googled it, interesting color. Might have to find some.
  14. Outside of live bait, do you still feel your methods were your best shot? You still caught hundreds of bass most people consider once in a lifetime, you still done extremely well even without the live bait.
  15. What’s causing you doubt now after the fact?
  16. I’ve actually done better with a frog in places that I typically throw and catch on a Texas rig. Obviously I can put the frog places I couldn’t a Texas rig but that’s the reasoning for my question.
  17. Thanks guys. Confirms what I was thinking.
  18. How would you react if the frog drew no interest? Would you still work the Texas rig behind it?
  19. So I’ve been a rather one trick pony with my fishing, but very good with my one trick in slinging a Texas rig. I’ve done well in just about every season and condition with it and is usually my go to. Ive been working on other techniques for different situations and been improving using a frog. My question to y’all is if you were working a prime area and wanted to work high percentage cover with both the frog and the Texas rig, what would you lead off with and what would be the follow up? It it makes sense to me to work both techniques in those areas, appealing to aggressive and passive bass but wanted to get yalls thoughts on it.
  20. I learned on a fuego on a dobyns 703. Love it for 1/4 Texas rigs. Started out using 10 lb big game. Back lashes picked out easy and cheap to respool. After a few iterations I’m extremely happy with 20 lb power pro braid to 15 lb tatsu fluoro leader. Best of braid in the casting department and still have top end fluoro on the business end.
  21. I loved my Fuegos, but picked up a tatula because I couldn’t find a high speed lefty fuego. The tatula is a better reel, I believe it has more bearings as well but definitely casts and reels much smoother. Hopefully a recessed pedal tray will be in the works. Not sure the brand yet, hoping it will be worth the effort and the loss of the 3 rod tubes in my rod locker that only hold my lure retriever.
  22. Best thing in the world is a lure retriever and then fire away.
  23. I use FG knots all the time but on my finesse setup it’s more trouble than it’s worth. Going 15 lb braid to 8 lb fluoro I just use a uni to uni.
  24. @WRB, you mention waaaay back in this thread hair jigs and horizontal jigging wouldn’t be as effective in shallower bodies of water. What would be your go to in these kinds of water?
  25. Length was 25.5” open mouth to end of flailed out tail. Girth was 18”. I’m very confident in the girth measurement but looking up to measure length I should’ve measured it closed mouth. The calculators call it a DD 10.3 lbs though, big deviation there.
