I personally don't really like the baby minus 1 with the round lip, I prefer the baby minus 4 with the square lip, you can throw that thing anywhere and it will not hang up. I throw mine right in the middle of lilly pads and work it out monster fish catcher. I don't like the minus 1 because the wobble is too wide and the rattle has too much of a metallic sound.

I consider <5' shallow and I love the mann's minus 4 crankbait series they catch a ton of fish down here in FL

I always go to my favorite spot and tie on my favorite lure, sometimes you just need a spot and lure you are confident in. Confidence plays a big part in catching fish. If you are confident you will make better casts and pay more attention to what your lure is doing in the water and in return you will get more hits.
