  1. Yep, gettin mush-butt while fishing is a major downer.
  2. i stopped using 98% of my lures 3 weeks ago after i tried for the first time zoom super flukes. I am having super good results with them and will ride them till the lakes freeze over.
  3. i still use spiderwire and have been since 1990,s. I purchased some 832 40# and will spool it up for 2022 just to try out something different to compare to my never failed me spiderwire. I hope i wont be dissapointed.
  4. The last week of september and all of october to date has been better than july and august combined. Here in west central minnesota we are having a drought but also a beautiful indian summer where the nightly temps havnt even dropped into the forties which just doesnt ever happen as records show. I found that fishing culverts as a bank thrower in the drought, big bridge type culverts is the way to go this time of year and its showing in numbers and size. I also stopped throwing the tackle box at the fish and stick tight to using the zoom super flukes rigged any way my heart desires.
  5. I thought that the marker ink smell would be a bad thing but i use a Sharpie and it doesnt have that heavy distinct smell the old school magic markers do. After awhile it smells just like it did new out of the package. After i color the top half of the flukes with marker i then rub it all in by just squishing the fluke and rubbing it in with my fingers to create my minnesota shiners look. I need to get to fleetfarm today as the only color they have in stock is pearl white which is great because i make my own shiners with the ink. Also i can take any sharpie color and make it what i want or put on some spike it. The texture of the zoom is such that it really is easy to put on eyes and different markings.
  6. bought a pack of pearl white zoom super flukes and many of them were bent at the tail section. I never paid attention to any soft plastics on their straightness before. I just rig them up and let them fly. Today I caught this brown girl on the pearl white. Also caught a nice bass on the zoom that i colored with a black marker. All the fish i caught today were on the zoom.
  7. awesome, as i was reading your post it reads just like my day went.?
  8. Got to my new favorite culvert today and put on a new pearl white zoom super fluke and on the 2nd cast this freight train clobbered the fluke. After the initial bite and pull i thought i caught a part of the culvert as this brownie was anchored down and the tug of war to get him landed was the heaviest load i have ever encountered without any weeds involved. I am thankful to have caught this 5 lb fish and hope she stays away from the fine folks whom like to catch and eat them. The culvert also gave up a nice 4 lb bass, a handfull of 2 lbers and a couple pike. The cuvert also gave me
  9. yes and i have 2 toes that got cut and still cant put alot of pressure on them as they are still healing.?
  10. as soon as i buy gulp minnows i put them with all my other gulps into a pickle jar. A jar where store bought pickles came in because the glass jar with the rubber coated sealable twist lid does not leak ever when tipped over and nothing evaporates out of it.
  11. 50 degree water or abouts is gettin real cool, any wind makes far worse. I used to live in las vegas and fished the colorado river below hoover dam and that water was 50 degrees and it took my breath away when i had to get into the water and clear the weeds out of my jet drive.
  12. i looked at the kvd caffeine shad on tackle warehouse and notice the tail is different then the zoom and it contains lots of salt and falls apart quickly users say. I myself use a spiral lock on the zoom and the lock uses every bit of the plastic in the head and after even one vicious strike the zooms head can be destroyed but then i just use it on a wr side hooking it and works great. I read the comments on the caffeine shad and alot of comments are comparing it to the zoom and some are against the caffeine shad and swear the zoom is better. I will have to judge this myself and form an opinion. Maybe i will also put away the hard jerkbaits, i dislike treble hooks anyways, make more open space in my box and easier decisions by just using the fluke or caffeine shad in their place.
  13. The past 2 weeks i have had great luck with the flukes, using them for the first time ever fishing them all different ways, tr, wr, drop shot, keel weighted hook. This week i will put them on as a trailor on a white swim jig using white fluke. I have been using white flukes that i collored the tops with black magic marker to make it look like a minnesota shiner and been workin great. I am just burnt out on the paddle tails, its like paddle tail this, paddle tail that. Paddle tails look like a submarine with what else a paddle tail. I can do so much more with a fluke and it looks more natural i feel on the techniques mentioned. I know many of you have caught hundreds of fish on kaitech type paddletails but i have not so when i tried the fluke and caught fish i was convinced this was better lure for me.
  14. finger on the line? detect bites? Heck i just throw it out there on my spinning reel and when it gets hit i set the hook hard and bring the darn fish in. I tried to detect the subtle tic,tic bites and then set the hook only to come up with nothing and wasting my time. Now i only set the hook when it gets slammed and then i set it again hard.
  15. next time i go to the bank i will grab a handfull of pens, it will help makeup for the extremey low interest rates they give me on my account.
  16. I made a real idiot mistake this week. I took my 12" long nose 45 degree angle needle nose pliers that i have owned for 30 yrs and tossed it from the bottom of a culvert bank to the top of the culvert where we had our gear and chairs set up and it hit the railing on top and fell into the water. I was so upset with myself that i stripped down to my boxer shorts and my fishing gloves and jumped into the culvert. This is a lake in minnesota on sept 30th at sundown and i didnt care how cold the water was i was determined to retrieve my pliers. I jumped in and it was actually warm, i didnt even have a cold shock when i went in. Water was over my head but if i stood on a rock it was up to the middle of my neck. The wife held onto one end of a 10 ft stringer while me the other end to try to steady myself. I was in for 30 minutes looking, taking breaths and diving down to look but the water would stir up when i did that and without swim mask i couldnt see much. Minnows and such were nibbling on my toes and gills and bass were surrounding me as i was stirring up the bottom and the sides of the culvert that was loaded with mussels and gunk. I struggled to get out because the shore line was rocky covered with zebra muscles and the side of the concrete culvert was plastered with mussels so i chose the rocks while the wife pulled me up with the stringer. I didnt find the pliers but i did feel very refreshed and got dressed minus the boxers and continued to fish which was very productive. When we got home i had sore toes and still hurts to walk today due to the mussels cutting my toes and now realize just how sharp the mussels are to be able to cut line. I have since went and bought the old original Baker Hookout style pistol grip with serrated jaws to replace my favorite pliers.
  17. for me a bank, wader fisherman i am always chasing after the last ray of sunshine on the bank to go and stand in so i can see where i am casting.
  18. well in the philippines its cheaper to buy lots of smaller fish but i have no desire to eat them this way.
  19. im pulling for ya to get out next year, need more reports from minnesota people.
  20. due to the drought in minn my summer fishing wasnt as good as 2020. But the last 2 weeks in september have been fantastic this year and bests 2020 by a mile. Hopefully the bite continues into late fall and i also changed my fishing style to slow and slower, crawling jigs, using dropshots letting it soak and move very slow pulling it towards me from the bank.
  21. i wake up at 5-6 am, eat breakfast and go back to sleep till 8 or 9. I have a morning yoga stretching and workout routine that takes me 1 1/2 hr. Not and havnt gone fishing in the early morning since 1980. The earliest i get to a lake is 10am and stay till 7-10:30 pm depending on time of year bank and wader fishing. The morning bite here in minn, detroit lakes area where i go usually lasts till noon and picks up again at 4.30 and ends at 9pm.
  22. gonna throw out my 43 yr old jock strap from high school. I still recall the school requiring us to wear one for gym class. Besides i have gone up a few cup sizes since then.
