I have targeted my new “white whale”. I’ll try lines that help me get it to the kayak. I ordered 25lb and people think I should go 30. But on a kayak, snags are a real danger. I need to be able to break off. Looking for my Goldilocks line is gonna be a process.

I call it August.

my dad had passed. my mom was frazzled. older friends picked up me and my bro and we spent a week in AZ. one guy took us night fishing. we skunked but the host hooked a good one.. years later that one tiny experience stuck with us and we just started learning on our own. living in El Paso certainly didnt help. haha..we had Elephant Butte lake..and that lake wasn't great for the experienced fishermen..we really sucked at it, but we kept plugging... now? I'm better.

wow. how many types are there?!! I ended up giving up and ordering Sufix Advance in 25lb. I think I need the stretch!! fluorocarbon cannot take the hard sudden shock attacks of big ocean fish. I lost my dream fish yesterday...if you listen carefully, you can still hear my "noooooooooo" echoing thru the west. hahah.. I know very little about Mono-line, and just went with a brand I frequent in other lines... very excited to try it out. felt compelled to post this since I am a staunch advocate of anything but Mono. :D.

yea. I considered one of those. they have a less expensive version at local marine store that starts with the opposite of East in the name.

I spent the day in the ocean with another rookie. total fun. last 15 minutes before I had to beach it, the bite turned on. but I had made promises to my wife and I headed in. not empty handed. enough fish for a couple of meals. fresh and not freezer burned. I have CA Cabazon on the menu today. this ocean thing is coming on strong with me. it is like a first date with fishing again. the newness. my Zillions are getting dusty. and I surfed my kayak into the beach like I have been doing it all my life. hahah..the tip of my kayak was cantilever over a wave. I should have had my camera on!!

El Jefe (boss). I spent the day bobbing around in the ocean. I just hit record and let it ride. I went about 3 hours 50 minutes. I was shocked. I actually forgot it was on my head recording until I heard it beep from low battery - and shut down. 3 batteries..no two batteries ( the bundle I bought came with 3 batteries) will outlast me on an average fishing trip. no problem. now I have to sort thru the footage to find me hooking and fighting a Ling Cod!!

I can pitch lefty and it’s arguably BETTER than me using my dominant right hand. casting? I’m okay. 70% if I get tired and accuracy isn’t super important I’ll let it rip lefty style.

I moved heaven/earth to find a Garmin Fishfinder with preloaded LakeVu. I was convinced I needed it and was never setting my kayak into the ocean. you know that Nazi, that drank from the wrong goblet? like him, I also chose poorly :). in lakes, kayaking, I go to the same spots mostly. casting to shore, lake charts aren't needed. heck, I just set up ActiveCaptain last night!!! well, the ocean is a whole other matter. I DO NEED good charts!! my friend sent me a photo of his other phone with a spot to fish for rockfish. I was shocked at the image!! it showed the reef! he said it was Active Captain..! apparently I have to buy the Garmin Navionics Vision + package. is this correct? I pay up. $$$. ( I download the package onto my iPhone. verify membership, so I prove I am not downloading a friends copy(?) choose the specific area I am targeting, put a blue square around it. download the area. sync my phone to fish finder and send it? is this correct? I cant help but think if if bought the ocean version of the same fish finder, I am already done. hahahha.. darn bejeweled goblet got me! The look I’m looking for.

I havent run a battery down. dunno. I think it will get there. just playing with it for 30 minutes, the battery does not seem to deplete. I lose juice on the GoPro just reformatting a card. next time I fish is next sat..:(. I will wear a head mount the durations. see how it does.

@HawkeyeSmallie I'm still learning. 1st thing I learned was my slower SD card from my old camera was not compatible. I just got the new V30 card and I am up and running. (SD cards have gotten really affordable!!) it isn't constantly recording per-say. it is watching. if I hit record I remember what it saw in the predetermined duration and it will add that to the data and start recording right away. it is chewing up juice, so I think it is recording. like a Tesla, where we honk our horns and it saves the info. it is more intuitive than the GoPro. I just start swiping and and figuring things out. it is the new features that will hang me up.

My brother and his friends are buying neighboring hunting properties. I’m going to get some pork and hopefully a Fallow deer. A friend is willing to help me drive and help cover fuel costs! wr plan on stopping in AZ to check out their gigantic squirrels. we thought about towing our kayaks, but it will be December and I think we should keep our eye on the prize. Fill the freezer. it’s been quite a few years since I’ve hunted , maybe the occasional turkey. I’m excited!

I havent shopped at Bass Pro in a long time. I'm already gear-rich for bass fishing. could use some line I suppose. but I dislike buying stuff for the sake of buying stuff. BPS doesnt even carry the Owner Treble hooks I use (for salt water rock fishing). I own an embarrassing quantity of soft plastics. I almost punted and bought the Avet SX salt-water reel and called it done and done. hahahah... but I do believe my BIL mistakenly doubled up the gift. he never drops money on me. hahaha...I love him dearly, and will talk to my wife to get to the bottom of it all. I would love to return half. I have time. I received a few gift card and managing them is an exercise in organization. I put the ones into my Apple wallet that I could, but I got some printed ones..!! and an actual physical BPS card. it's a fun problem to have. maybe a goretex wading jacket. hehehe.. but I personally do not jive with BPS.

hahah...I know this is a joke..but if it was real, it would give me a heart attack. when I get to water, I move heaven/earth to rig up and get on the water as fast as I can..that much set up.. death. clutch my chest death.
