bass kayakers. when you venture onto a boat. you bring everything?
well, I should have brought one rod, and a bag of senkos + hooks. it was all I could do to put fish in the boat. the rest of it was just a tripping hazard.

a rod for Punching. my eyes were opened.
I went fishing on a boat yesterday on the CA delta. one of my most unsuccessful techniques that I WANT and DREAM of mastering is punching. I am awful at it. I am back of boat mostly, but my friend does what he can to leave me the better looking spots. he knows I am jonesing for more punch bites. he did loan me some rod. some Edge rod. 7'9". I just put my reel on it. with braid. the longer rod was eye opening. my pitches were much more accurate and I could go pretty much any distance I wanted. sadly, I only got tapped and failed to set the hook right to catch the fish.. my friend did well. the longer handle also let me pitch way longer without fatigue. no real elbow or shoulder pain today. I just bought an 8' rod I was going to use for rockfish in the ocean. its light. I might try it off my kayak. see how a long rod off a kayak feels. if not, I will at least get a rod with a long handle.

anti-seasick tips?
a fresh prescription of the patch is coming in the mail. I'll try that and follow all the other advice. I dont drink anymore, so I have that going for me. my friend told me he would make a "magic brownie"...err..no. I do know however that would work wonders I imagine.

I’m parked in front of his house early. I brought way too much. Basically dumped my kayak into a bag. Plus a small ice chest. Lunch for two. I look like I’m running away from home.

Two baitcasting questions from a newbie
I agree totally. the two need to be ebony and ivory, PB&J, Cagney and Lacey..you get the point. rod needs to cast well, feel well, pin well, and fight well. rod needs to ride shotgun and manage the line. to be honest, I cant tell much on high # of ball bearing reels. I couldnt point them out on a reel. smooth is smooth.

Not sure which kayak to get. Thoughts
I would be remiss if I didn’t say why I went Hobie. Pedal power! The mirage drive IMHO has the most propulsion. True story: wind and the tides were both against me coming back to the launch. I just trudged onward. I passed a dude in a Native making zero progress. I don’t know if he was panicking, but he wasn’t happy. His prop drive didn’t have enough umph to overcome bothe the tidal movement and the wind. He threw me a rope and I pulled him in. I’ve seen this happen to Blanchard on a video and his Hobie friend pulled him in as well. big waters w wind and currents, like the Pacific Ocean? Hobie. I can and have learned how to manage the reverse seamlessly.

anti-seasick tips?
lets hear em!! I am going out on an ocean boat soon. I have the patches for my ear. (I need to find them). empty stomach? ginger ale? ginger candy? full plate of enchiladas? I am hit or miss. about 50% I see or feel nothing but joy. the other 50% I puke my guts out. too close to call.

Flipping/Pitching Bait Rotation
my pitching bait is green pumpking Flappin hog. double duty as my jig trailer. my punch bait is a green pumpkin palmetto bug. my worm is a 5" #925 Senko. the Magnum Vibe worm in other thread looks kinda awesome. i free rig a Dolive Beaver. i'm working tubes into the rotation, but that is kinda it for me. if i dropshot. Zoom dropshot worm. you know what color, you do.

Goh?
i'm looking for a Tokyo hotel and got sidetracked. Goh. in Japan, fishing line is sold and categorized by diameter? Goh is just a random #. ? from what i can tell, 5 Goh is 16lbs? grams, meters, cm, mm...i got it. Goh? rhymes with Huh? okay, it doesn't.

do you dress like a fisherperson?
i always feel like 10lbs of sugar stuffed into a 5lb sack with those synthetic logo'd sun shirts. not a good look for me. not happening. my fishing shirts, i can walk into a restaurant with, for the most part.

Do bass move when carp take over their spots?
right^^^ it was my own ignorance that taught me some of that. i would get the big "ba-BLOOSH!" of a splashing fish, and i like a total newb would imagine a giant bass just smashed food up near the surface. so i recklessly send a bait. i caught fish, which reinforced my incorrect thinking. it was only until i laid eyes on the fish getting airborne that i realized it was a 2-foot long carp, looking for hot loving. they were plowing thick grass. and i think the bass were feeding on the bait pushed out. which on one day, was a minnow. it was fun. i was a herd of giant carp.

do you dress like a fisherperson?
i kinda do!!! for example, i am wearing a Simms button up fishing shirt now at the office. it does (in my defense) it does look like a regular button up shirt. my thing are hoodies. haha...during our cooler month i wear what my wife and i jokingly call, "the city uniform". a dark hoodie with a thin puffy vest. where i live we have what people call the bass trifecta. if you fish at some lakes, it is reason to celebrate if you can catch a LMB, a SMB and a Spotted bass. this hoodie popped up on my radar, and i take delivery today. hahah.. i bought it because my other hoodie with the Japanese Anime girl holding the tuna isnt age appropriate for me (according to my wife)

Two baitcasting questions from a newbie
1. (i will probably get blasted for this). braid is easier to pick at if you backlash. i find braid backlashes easier for me. but i mitigate this by staying with the higher strength stuff. for me, the thinner stuff, say 30lb braid will loosen a bit on the spool as i fish, and then bite itself into the spool. and then i backlash from the added resistance. frustrating. if i stay 50+, 65better. the larger diameter doenst bite into itself much. 2. i almost never backlash my Zillion. i think higher quality reels manage line better for me. it lays it down neater when i reel in, and it sends it better. and it certainly will apply the brakes smooth and sexy like. i will usually only backlash if something catestrophic happens, like i hit a branch i didnt see w a lure at full speed, or the bait is so tattered it falls off the hook and gets really light.

Small Tackle Bag?
^^^ true. the superpower of the sling pack is i can pivot the bag to my front, grab something out of it and pivot it back behind me. no need to take it off. i had a pack and it wasnt ideal.

Casting VS Spinning for Bottom Contact
i 100% throw my free rig on the X-Bites. i cant do it any other way. it is my dedicated free rig rod. i dont see why a spinning rod/reel is the way to go. just me, tho. i only truly know my world. i'll be in Osaka november. i want to put a windbuster in a tube and mail it to myself. use it for my heavier drop shot thing..or neko. (and the Dark Sleeper since it wouldnt cost more to ship)

Best reel for fishing frogs
i'm headed to the CA-Delta friday. my bud will loan me a punch rig. he said, bring a topwater rig, and a frog rig!! i had to go find my old Lews (it already has braid). haha..i need to oil it, since it has been gathering dust at my office. Point being. I don’t overthink my frog setup because I’m simply not super successful w it.

Small Tackle Bag?
i have this bag. i love it. looks like the price is higher than when i got it. a little bit. this bag is fantastic. i have taken it to hike the shorelines of Oklahoma lake Texoma, and this tiny bag carried all my gear for mexico bass fishing. i did also bring one of those clear bait bags for soft plastics. but the sling carried all the hard plastics, and termnial tackle, gear, and spare line spools. it was sick and the outside pockets allowed quick access to pliers and braid shears. it was awesome have a safe haven for my cell phone.

Pounding Two Pounders
ahhh.. memories of the one-handed hair wash. you described it perfectly. i did it shooting a hunting bow. but my PT person showed me a move that i still use to this day. bend at the hip. helps to put your good hand on something. like a bench. now hold a very light weight with the sore side. let the arm dangle straight down and relax. you'll feel it stretch. i use a 2lb dumbbell. but i have used a 28oz can of hominy. hahah.. now let the hand pendulum clockwise..then counter clockwise. it feels so good!! just gentle movements as the joint just dangles from gravity. when i get that nagging soreness, i go and find a can of hominy.
