  1. is his truck paid off? the math seems off to me. sell a relatively good and reliable truck (for a Ford..haahah..just kidding) to buy a older, arguably less reliable truck, and with used truck prices still at "i cant believe it" pricing, to buy a used boat with the same parameters. boats need work, and boat work makes truck work look cheap. i think this is a classic out of the frying pan into the fire type of situation.
  2. i dont partake. Asthma prevents it. i suppose i could eat a dolled up rice krispy treat or something, but i never trust the dosage of an edible. but my one friend is darn near the third unsung member of cheech and chong. he never backlashes because he is a dork and only fishes spinning, and he only trolls. he does however get into a bait changing frenzy. i can tell he smoked by all the baits he accumulates in the storage bin of his kayak.
  3. @ChrisD46. i used a Gamakatsu 3/0 o'shaunnessy at the time. now? i think i 2/0 Owner Haymaker would be outstanding. underwater the rig looks great due to the extra bouyancy. and bonus, it is easy as heck to change baits. you just hook on something else.
  4. dang. i am not sure i would even entertain owning a boat in that situation. boat is a luxury item. life costs are not.
  5. I’ll have to search.
  6. i have three of the balancers out. it came with 4 out. i think i always use 3 on my Curado 150mgl reels. (dunno). i have the brake set right at 50%. (3) i still need to spool it up later when my line gets here,..oh, i am also waiting for my rod. just looking for a starting point. i have backlashed brandnew line before. not proud.
  7. I have DMT stuff for my knives. I think the dimples in them make it tough for me to sharpening hooks. but they are great sharpeners.
  8. oh, i agree with you @Fishing_Rod!! horking that onto a rooftop didnt look fun. well, i saw them lift it off.
  9. great powers of observation! can you just add a tack weld once you position it? then paint it all to prevent some rust? after doing all the rust mitigation mentioned above, of course.
  10. i think the load on the roof rack is relatively small. the boat only. the motor is the heavy part, and that is all on the hitch. (remember influence line loads from college? :D) @Bird agree, the windloads must be tremendous. but still less than what those giant bed mounted camper shells must impart. it must jack MPG. like from 55 mpg down to 39?
  11. oh..i didnt know the C-rig was a distance thing. thanks.
  12. i came in from my kayak fishing day and saw a fantastic sight. a prius with a boat. the boat was on TOP of the prius. it was awesome to see, and quite frankly,..looked over engineered. my first thought was, "okay Darth..avoid eye contact because we dont want to help unload that thing!" but a bunch of friends rolled up on adventure style bikes and they took the boat down with zero issues. (they had a very pretty lady with them - not that it adds to this story in any way). it was cool to see. and i admire the guys "can do" attitude. i think i would have explore towing options. The driver said it handle normally, and the bikers said he was actually fast.
  13. i had a few on my kayak, but they all got so rusty.
  14. we all have our favorite knots. i try not to inject my opinions much on the matter, beyond suggestions. the knot we tie the best really should be our lead-off conections anyways. go with what you are great at.
  15. i ate those things in Cambodia. your pic would have been better if you only had "half" of that centipede on the stick
  16. imagine going into the passenger console at that speed? there are scissors and pliers everywhere, hooks galore. i would crush my solarplexes on the console, hit the deck right when a rusty pair of pliers punch my achilles and i back slide across all the fishing rods with trebles. hahaha.. my friend has observed me and throttled back a few times. 69mph on water bouncing feels unnatural to me. i swear we got air a few times on the Delta.
  17. SIMMS. zero other options for me. i cant stand those sythentic hoodies, but i have a few. i dont stink but i dont smell great after a long day in the sun. i like button ups, so i can wear them elsewhere if needed. like hiking trips, backyard bbq parties. 50upf and nobody knows. i have several of the older BIG SKY shirts. wear gloves because you will look odd naked with a white torso and brown hands. https://www.simmsfishing.com/products/mens-big-sky-ls-shirt?variant=41816012718270
  18. on the water, i retie a new bait/hook. i'll keep it to go full zen sharpening on it at home.
  19. i have never understood threads like this. "suggestions for the wife...." i have seen "which car for the wife?" all over the place. lots of which "firearm for the little lady"? my wife wouldnt want a handgun, altho she is a badaess with mine. the girl can shoot. we have a running joke. everytime she lines up on the shooting line, she says, "they call me deadeye". then she commences with the fine shooting. having said that, if she wanted a gun, she would go to the store and buy one she chose. same with her car. she woke me up on morning and said..."hey lets go get my car..it is here!". we talked about her choice in cars, but i wasnt sure if she was serious. my wife is a very independent person.
  20. oh, i got permission to shoot at their turkey population. just about the best spot for a California Airgun turkey hunt. hahaha..
  21. i enjoy fishing out of my friends bass boat. i like @TnRiver46 do not enjoy the speed runs. all i see around me are hard and sharp objects that are going to be a painful problem if things go wild.
  22. FG is killer with those lines. it's tiny. having said that, i kinda just use the Alberto. which is also friggen small.
