  1. At one point NASCAR was the most brand loyal sport. I would imagine, bass fishing isn’t far behind. I have started watching MLF cup events with my son on TV and it isn’t long before you start to develop favorites. From there it’s a hop, skip, and a jump until you(& I) are looking to their product sponsorships option to toss into your cart. just the other day my son asked my if I could fish with any of the MLF guys who would it be? Lots of great choices and I would be glad to sit back and watch - and ask a ton of questions.
  2. Makes sense... it is all pontificating for me as I know I cannot tell in any real world way. i was most curious if a exact identical rod of the stiffer tip or longer length would make any difference.
  3. Apologies if this has been discussed but I didn’t find anything when I searched. Suppose you have two of the same rods just different models, say a 7’1” MF NRX and a 7’6” HF NRX (not a real problem I have I assure you) and you used the same reel, line, everything - as well as the same technique. Will one rod be more sensitive because of the rod stiffness or lack thereof? What about rod length? I know the difference may be minimal but hey, it’s winter and cold, so why not discuss.
  4. When they are close enough to hear them hissing they are too close. I have had similar unwelcome run ins in my neck of the woods. Snakes are just as bad and more prevalent!
  5. Great fish but even better right at the boat. Even a small bass right at the boat can cause the heart to skip let alone a DD bass.
  6. Great fish and even better memories.
  7. I learned to water ski on Ray Hubbard. I can’t help much with fishing info but my memory of Ray Hubbard is the wind always seemed to blow harder on the lake than elsewhere. It seemed like most times we tried to get on the water it was either too windy to ski or very rough. Great fond memories though. Good luck!
  8. Nice catch. Wading a river with a fly rod hoping for a trout take is still they favorite way to fish. The best thing about trout is they seem to only prefer beautiful places to call home.
  9. Super cool collection. I doubt any of the new stuff today will be anywhere close to as usable 100 years from now. I have always wanted to throw some vintage, high quality fly rods to see how they compare to today’s offering. I learned to fly cast ~ 20 years ago and I still tend to prefer the slower, more full flex rods I learned on to the super fast tapers most companies tout today.
  10. Thanks y’all, this is helpful.
  11. What does Daiwa offer in their lineup that is comparable to or competitive with the Stradic?
  12. What is biggest advantage of anti-reverse to you? I know the downside seems to be an additional place water can get in, just never really understood the main use.
  13. Which Penn models are comparable?
  14. Do the Stradic Ci4+ or now the Vanford tend to hold up as well as the metal bodied version?
  15. The Curado has long held the reputation for me as the workhorse in the Shimano lineup. Great quality at a reasonable price (subjective I know). I realize this may be disputed but what is the spinning reel equivalent to you? It does not have to be in the Shimano lineup but what spinning reel has the same type of value/performance reputation in your opinion?
  16. Are there any good links on here to various companies and their warranty in rods?
  17. Warranty and longevity is an aspect I have not considered in this equation. Interesting.
  18. Thanks... I tend to agree, especially on buying quality and slightly used. Just to clarify, $500 is an arbitrary amount. I chose it assuming it allowed rod and reel to be in that mid-priced range with good quality options on both. How does your line of thought change of you slide the total cost down to $250?
  19. I have used TFO fly rods with good satisfaction. I wanted to see if any of you had any good experience with TFO conventional rods, specifically the Tactical Elite. Casting and/or spinning. How are the actions? Do they tend to fish heavier than listed? Lighter? Build quality? Any and all thoughts are welcome. As is any additional info or reviews you can point me toward. Thanks!
  20. Is this true for spinning and casting setups?
  21. Explain make the fishing fun. More enjoyable with better castability?
  22. I had a buddy ask me this question and I had never really thought about it before, so I thought I would pose the question here. When buying a rod/reel set up do you tend to invest more heavily in the rod? In the reel? Or stay as equal as possible? Say you want to spend $500 total on one set up for a general all around the, would you split your dollars evenly? Get a better rod/lesser reel? Get a better reel/lesser rod? I tried to explain different techniques and bottom contact you may want more in your rod and moving baits maybe less in your reel. Not sure I did a great job. I tend to want the best I can get of both even when I know I don’t need it. What would you say?
  23. I apologize if this has been discussed before, I would think it has. Nothing turned up with the search function but I may not have executed it correctly. I am curious to see what the prevailing thought is with leaving plastic trailers on jigs/chatterbaits or if you pull them to help prevent rust to the hooks? how concerned should I be or am I overthinking it?
