  1. The Stradic FL1000 is the JDM C2000SHG. The JDM C1000S is the same reel body, low-gear, same stroke, slightly smaller spool dia. https://www.jpfishingtacklenews.com/shimano-stradic-19/ For your pocketbook, don't ask me about salt finesse rods, which we fish a gang for change-up at Arroyo. I have four including a pair that have fished a dozen years - these two are newer. Both of these rods have landed doubles including snook and redfish. This Korean model is Very good and very cost-effective - Fuji guides, even The ebay seller Autter is also very reliable NS Black Hole Dark Horse Rockfish UL
  2. @Tail Slap I'm a huge fan of double and counter-balanced handles on spinning reels. It keeps the rotor from loading and spinning by itself under gravity. Especially useful on finesse - light strikes like schoolie specs in the dock lights at night. We have standing winter trips to the nite lites on Arroyo Colorado barge canal - all tiny glass minnows and big sipping trout (throw in a few snook). My most productive reel there is this C1000S with cobbled double handle. (Livre base, Gomexus carbon, Avail knobs) I've also caught kings sipping tiny pilcher (flies and jigs) 6' below the boat. They just drift there and don't move until you strike them - then all heck breaks loose.
  3. I honestly don't know if you'll ever need a spool BB - the only time it's loaded is paying drag - but if you want a reason to justify it...? ...hey, that's it - mackerel - I've had kings peel off 100 yds
  4. See the 14.5 mm stroke - that's a '15/'16 Stradic FK stroke not the '18/'19 FL You have to be careful watching the date changes on Shimano spools. Here's that full catalog page if you want to download it.
  5. rip dey lips, bro
  6. I was looking for the diameter and stroke reference, but I've bought 3 Yumeya spools to share between my five Stradics and Vanquish. The most worthwhile upgrade to any Shimano for salt service is the MTCW titanium line roller (same part also sells under Jackson brand) The reason the Shimano stock line roller needs all those silly seals jam-packed with lithium grease is that it's chromed brass. rubber seals = saltwater in, humidity only out, salt left behind Daiwa's line roller is better, same that Tica uses, TiN plasma-coated inside and out.
  7. All correct, C3000 and 2500 are same S-20 stroke C2500 is smaller stroke S-27 spool for small frame reel - - could be an expensive mistake shipping from Japan. Throwing up this nice Shimano Yumeya custom offered in 2500 and 4000 sizes, lists spool number, diameter and stroke Plat has this shallow Yumeya for $101, forged alloy, fancy anodize, plus spool bearing - - and of course you can order the stock Stradic spool from their Repair Parts for $52. Regards
  8. Need to make sure you're matching the correct reel body for spool stroke. JDM has the C2500SHG that's based on the small frame and uses the wrong (for you) S-27 spool (very likely a deep spool)- - you need S-20 spool on your mid-size reel body. And you're correct with JDM 2500S and 2500SHG spools.
  9. My first good bass as a teenager, 6-1/2 lbs, was in a bowl-shaped cove in a deep, clearwater reservoir. I was fishing a Jitterbug, and letting it rest for long counts in between short, slow retrieves (paddles, if you know a jitterbug). She must have followed the lure 40' before deciding to eat it in the middle of the deep cove, and she ate the lure when it was at rest. Oh yeah, it was also just about this time in May.
  10. oops, never mind ... checking Japan, I can't find a Japan model equivalent. There has to be one, though - we just need to figure out the Spool number S-xx Also consider at its price point, may be just as cost-effective to buy a back-up reel.
  11. It's Nov 3-7 this fall in Rockport. Of course you need a kayak, and a fishing shack somewhere between Holiday Beach and Aransas Pass, but the celebration on Live Oak Point only slows down for the fishing.
  12. here was our last, part of last fall's Redfish Rodeo Dale, just above, taught a seminar on shucking a crab to get one piece of meat
  13. Micro guides for fine braid, regular guides for fluoro (or the 50-lb braid some of you like) an Allbright knot in small braid is not afraid of microguides
  14. I'm going to disagree with politics having anything to do with it - zip - the whole nature of work has changed. When I contact suppliers and clients, their phone systems have been modified to route calls to their worker's homes.
  15. I've talked to them on the phone - really nice people, totally informed on all their products, and don't be surprised if they send your parts gratis - over the top service is a tradition with them.
  16. you want to start any reply to the OP's question with, Ya Think ??? Toilet paper? From where the situation was exactly one year ago, everything has improved dramatically, though still has a long way to go to be anywhere close to 2019. Inventory is quietly creeping back up, e.g., Crowder is making and shipping rods again. Many new products have been introduced and have found their way to many of our hands. One thing that happened - Japan shopping grew exponentially over the past 12 months. At least in part because international express courier was the only reliable domestic delivery for the first 6 of those months. So much more traffic that FedEx created a new nonstop route from Sennin-Shi to Memphis. In a way, the shortages have made shopping online easier. Begin with "In Stock Only"
  17. Once again, Here is the Best Online Calculator for Stacking Lines of Different Diameter Start with your spool capacity, put in the diameter and length of your braid spool, then you can input backing diameter and it will determine how much you need. Or after putting in spool capacity, you can put in the backing diameter and length next, tell it your braid diameter, and it will tell you how much will fill the spool. ____________________________________________________________________ If your spool is deeper than this photo, you probably want backing Otherwise, you're going to need a half-mile of braid. This happens to be a braid-specific spool, made to hold 200 m of PE#1.5 (JDM silk thread diameter scale) - 30 lb braid.

I remember girls getting spooked and wanting to cuddle up when you walked through the neighborhood at night. We get cicada years, too, but I remember a rhinoceros butterfly plague, when bass with distended bellies would impale themselves on any red popper. The hard part was keeping your windshield clean enough to get to the river.
  19. @BaitFinesse I believe the bearing retainers belong to the G series spools, again, to position the bearing inside the spool hollow. They won't work on a deep, flat-flange spool. I moved it to the Roro X spool bearing and could immediately see the difference. on the bearing position in the frame boss and spool width. (so I ordered another part for the G1 spool bearing). Again, they're fixed un-spun mass, and only do good things.
  20. Daiwa has BB-supported pinion, as well. Definitely on my seeming modified otherwise '18-version mag-frame Steez SV TW. The modified part is the spool main bearing has a wedge sleeve ("bearing retainer") that positions it deeper into the spool and farther away from the pinion bearing - this part only shows up on the latest schematics. As such, it's "unspun" mass and has only good results. Without it, the 1030 bearing wedges deeper in the frame boss, and just outside the spool. The Steez has 2 BB supporting the pinion Can also show you a schematic with the exact reel designation but doesn't have the part 29 bearing retainer.
  21. But what you get with metal frame, they can do this and come back for More.
  22. I forgot about this on my recent parts and JDM braid purchase. As long as I'm ordering from Japan, always check the bargain bins for interesting lures. Turns any finesse jig into a buzz bait. I'm a sucker for buzz baits.
  23. a fun, not too-old thread, appropriate with the recent glass rod discussion. Mine was a Browning Hi-Power, 7-1/2' MH that the 1-pc blade telescoped into the last 2' of the rod butt. Though plenty heavy, compared to 7' glass, it was a game-changer both for inshore and surf, and a great match with my first Lew's BB-1NG
  24. mine was bottom-bounced with a cats whisker on a Teeny line, but 2" shorter - does it help I was using a cane fly rod (PHY Driggs River)? I do remember the couple of times she broached, her shoulders made me think, now that's a stubby bass she's probably still there if y'all want to see how she's grown
  25. There are good soft boots (Soft Science, Astral) as well as hard boots that go over stocking-foot waders. Whatever you buy, make sure you go up a shoe size to make room for the neoprene feet in the waders. Soft Science The bulletproof hard wading boots are the classic Danner
