  1. Ya that’s fair I guess. I would just think out of the box there shouldn’t be anything to fix. Next one I’ll get I’ll strip it down first before taking it out.
  2. Man this was a straight therapy session. Very well said and I think you’re right. I don’t really compare my stuff to other peoples. I compare it to other gear I have owned. Like the 2nd Curado I got I noticed immediately it wasn’t as smooth or powerful and the other Curado I had. That’s my issue with this Daiwa. I had a Fuego that was literally given to me in pieces. I cleaned them all, greased, and oiled it. Once it was back together it was like reeling in air. It was so smooth and casted so cleanly. That’s why I’m weirded out by this Tatula that costs twice as much and feels less refined than that Fuego.
  3. Yea I mean it definitely performs fine. I can easily tell the difference in the way this handles the spool vs the Curado k I had. I just feel like for $200 it would be a bit more refined out of the box.
  4. Have a SLX MGL and absolutely love it for light lures. The Curado MGL would probably be great as well.
  5. Ya I ordered a replacement and returned that one. If it’s messed up too I’ll go back to Shimano. I just wanted something that was forgiving on backlashes when skipping.
  6. Was your Tatula smooth out of the box? I’m in the process of returning one and trying from a different retailer because it felt a touch geary on the retrieve and not glass smooth like much cheaper Fuegos I’ve had. Also was very loud when casting.
  7. I plan on doing a full tear down of it when my grease comes in. As for flushing the bearings, the only thing I really have is strong alcohol and this brake cleaner stuff that a YouTube recommended. I was gonna buy some compressed air to force out anything left in. However should servicing it not fix the issue, I’ll return it and swap it out. The real casted and skipped lures great and is super light so I think in the end I’ll keep swapping them til I get a good one.
  8. Ok when my grease comes in, and I open it up, I’ll flush them, just to be safe, then apply oil to the bearings and grease to the gears.
  9. That’s sad to hear. I went with this one cause I was having issues with the curados and the SV spool would help my backlash problem. I took it out yesterday and it performed as it’s stated but wasn’t the most smooth and on hard casts was noisy.
  10. Both are great brands I don’t think you’ll be unhappy no matter what you choose.
  11. Which Dobyns? I have the Fury crank bait rod and couldn’t love it more.
  12. Ya I had a fuego a while back and absolutely loved it. It was super smooth and casted far. I’m gonna try to tear it apart and clean it real good and grease it. If that doesn’t work I’ll exchange it. I took it out and casted and skipped with it a bit, and it worked flawlessly minus the noisy cast and not buttery smooth retrieve lol
  13. Ok I ordered some of the Daiwa grease. I’ll wait til that stuff comes in before tearing it apart. Thank you for your help.
  14. Ok awesome thank you. What grease would you use on the gears?
  15. Ok I ordered Shimano star drag grease. Would that be ok? Also what do you flush the spool bearings with?
  16. I think I like Lews rods more than their reels. I have a TP1 black that I am in love with. I ordered some grease. Hopefully it does something. I did notice that it’s only noisy when on the rod like the rod is amplifying the sound. Regardless if the grease doesn’t fix it I have 30 days to return it. I was so sold on the Curados cause I have one that is perfectly smooth and buttery. But everyone I’ve tried to buy afterward has had some issue with it.
  17. Haha right on I also noticed it’s only noisy when on the rod. It’s the same with my other reels.
  18. Ok I ordered some Shimano grease. Should I clean the grease off of the old gears before applying extra? I bought some Shimano grease. Did you clean out the old oil and grease first?
  19. After having issues with 3 Curado in a row I just went with an entirely different brand. I picked up the Daiwa Tat SV TW 2020 model honestly due to how many good reviews it had. Now I used to have a Fuego CT and it was crazy smooth I felt like, but this one I can sorta feel the gears meshing together inside if that makes sense. Also it’s kinda loud on the retrieve compared to my other reels. I can’t tell if that’s the main shaft gears or the worm gear though. Anyone else have issues with these reels right out of the box? Does it need to be serviced?
  20. Ok right on I'll start ripping it apart and greasing everything. I'll update how it went. Thank you
  21. I bought a Curado a few months back and it has been exceptional. Buttery smooth and effortless to reel in. I just bough another one in the exact same gear ratio and it feels like it has less winching strength the my other one. I have the same line on them both so I tied on the same squarebill to both of them. The newer one felt like it had more tension on it during the retrieve. I dialed in the spool tension on both of them to be as near identical as possible, I even swapped them to each others rods to make sure that wasn't the issue and still the newer one felt slightly more tight reeling in. The thing is that I just returned another Curado for this reason and this one is having the same issue. It make me think maybe there wasn't anything wrong with the last one. What could cause this?
  22. I have that exact same setup for exactly the same purposes and I absolutely love it. It’s so dang light
  23. Awesome! I wasn't wanting to buy a random pack of #5 just for 2 poppers. I'd rather keep stock of #4 and #6 and just use those if possible.
