Anyone ever receive a rod like this?
I just received a JDM Megabass rod that came in a hard PVC tube. I think you could have ran over it with a car and not damaged it. I have had nothing but positive experiences with JDM purchases.

Thoughts on Line Conditioners?
Many on here love using line conditioners but I am not a fan. My belief is the first fish you hook or the first snag you work will remove most of the line memory. I just don’t like adding anything unnecessary and never have issues with memory that would make me want to change. I also felt like it made my line look a little cloudier but it may have just been my perception.

Money that you regret spending on tackle related items
The jig box is the only one I like and it makes a great spinnerbait box. In the pic below, I used a Dremel to cut a groove in each arm and it holds spinnerbaits perfectly.

Chatterbait trailer length (zako)
Profile and short strike are not necessarily the same thing. Short strikes and bass swiping at a bait can occur for multiple reasons including color. Since your question was about profile, I assume you want something with a little smaller presence in the water. You can only shorten a Zako so much before you get into the tail section depending on the hook size. If I want a smaller profile, I will use something other than a Zako. If you Google chatterbait underwater footage, there are some videos showing various trailer actions. I think Tactical Bassin did one as well.

Spinning rod. The location of the bait holder matters.
These are perfect for drop shots because you can use the rod keeper for the hook and adjust the clip to the length of the leader. The biggest problem I had was even though the clips were tight, I still kept knocking them off.

30lb for top water and frogs?
It really depend on how heavy the cover is. It sounds like you don’t have a dedicated frog rod and since the rod doubles as your topwater rod, I would guess it isn’t very heavy. I use 65 lb braid on my frog rod but depending on the lake, I don’t always bring it. You don’t have to have the heaviest slop for frogs to be effective and you don’t have to have the heaviest braid to throw one.

Spinning rod. The location of the bait holder matters.
I would have someone remove the old one and place a new one at your preferred location. Since you want it gone, I’m sure there is someone nearby who could replace it at a reasonable price…it’s not that difficult. It’s your favorite rod. Why booger it up by just cutting it off.

Ordering a Loomis Rod from the USA to Canada
I have bought all of my G Loomis rods from Am. Leg. and they are excellent. They come in a heavy tube and are attached on the inside to prevent any movement. On their website, click on the newsletter tab on the right side of the page (small green tab) and sign up to get 10% off or just call direct and ask for the 10%. They are super easy to work with.

Confused fishing etiquette
??This?? Like others said, if he didn’t know what a Senko was, it is likely he was unaware of proper fishing etiquette. Everyone seems to think that pointing something out means you have to either get in a fight or it has to ruin your day…neither of which is true if handled properly. This was a learning opportunity. IMO when this happens, it is often due to a lack of awareness. If you didn’t want to fish behind him, going around was perfectly fine.

Chatterbait trailer length (zako)
If I use a Zako, it’s because I want the larger profile. If I want something smaller, I’ll usually use a Hog Farmer Spunk Shad. They work great on chatterbaits.

Skipping Jig Question
You can skip with any rod…it’s about the motion. The best way to practice is in your driveway. You will be able to tell when a skip on concrete would translate to the water. If you are concerned about backlashes, peel off the appropriate amount of line, put some tape on the spool and start practicing. Edit: Line - doesn’t matter; length - shorter is easier when learning but eventually won’t matter though it helps some with accuracy; land, boat, kayak, etc - won’t matter once you learn the technique.

Scent for lures?
Exactly, and is it because of the “scent” or is it just masking odor. I think they often make a difference but IMO, it’s probably more as a masking agent. I’m not a germophobe but if I were able to see what most people do with their hands throughout the day, I would carry hand sanitizer 24/7 ?.

lightweight high end pitching rig
We shall see…it’s sure what Wall Street would like the public to believe. I on the other hand believe that they never fixed what happened in 2008 but just doubled down. We have never been as over leveraged as we are today and IMO the general public has no idea of what is coming…think The Big Short X 2. Not financial advice. Edit: Wall Street and the government

What's your favorite 1/2-3/4oz Jig /bottom contact rod?
I have both but if I had to choose one, it would be the 873. The 854/894 is H/F v. 873 MH/F (IMO, the 873 is more XF). I use the 852S for light finesse stuff, the 893C for lighter jigs, and the 854C & 873C for mid range. I use a Steez for the heavy stuff. I could easily drop from 5 rods to 3 by using the 873 in place of the 893 & 854. I have never owned a MB, so I can’t help you there. However, I have always wanted to try the Addermine but they are tough to find. Here is a forum comparing the 873 to the 894 for more opinions. http://www.tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?t=56756 Also the Tackle Tour review: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewgloomisnrx873C.html

Scent for lures?
Usually when I first get on the water and after I take a dip and a leak. It’s common for guys to wash their hands after going to the bathroom but put them on a boat and they have no problem touching their sweaty junk and then adjusting their jig trailer. I’m not suggesting others do the same…it’s just what I do. Does it make a difference…I don’t know. Edit: I’m also going to have to build some sort of boat plank to pee off of. I’m getting so old that I’m having a hard time clearing the gunnel ?.

What's your favorite 1/2-3/4oz Jig /bottom contact rod?
I don’t have the 894 but I have the 854. I do have an 893 that I use for lighter stuff and it’s a close second favorite but I wouldn’t use it for 1/2oz. I use the 873 & 854 for a lot of the same things but overall I prefer the 873. Edit: IMO, G Loomis underrates their lure weights slightly but they are both rated for 3/4 and can handle 1/2 w/o a trailer easily. I’m pretty sure Tackle Tour has a review for the 873, I’m not sure about the 854/894.

What's your favorite 1/2-3/4oz Jig /bottom contact rod?
A lot of it is going to depend on how the rod feels in your hands. I have a number of G Loomis rods and also have the Steez Bottom Contact. Personally, I prefer G Loomis but others may prefer the Steez. You could buy the NRX 873 CRR and you would have a top notch rod to cover both. IMO, it’s one of the best G Loomis rods.

Skipping wacky rigs with light line?
No…I skip docks a lot and quite often use a spinning rod with 8lb test to braid for wacky rigs. There may be occasions where you have to work the fish a little different but you will be fine if you stay patient if you get wrapped. Sure the likelihood of breaking off is higher v. 40lb braid but I have caught a lot of big fish on small test with few problems. Obviously the more hazards, the more potential problems. Edit: I don’t have any baitcasters rigged with less than 10lb test. I skip with most of my rods, so I don’t have a special skipping setup, I just skip with whatever I have rigged up.

Scent for lures?
I have several different scents that I sometimes use but I always carry a bottle of scent free soap to wash my hands. I use the same soap I use for hunting as I think human scent along with the different things we touch throughout the day likely has a bigger impact.

Crazy foul hook
There should be some kind of record for that. I’ve seen some crazy hookups but I doubt there haven’t been many who have done that.
