  1. I've got a Victorinox fillet knife. Just need to practice I guess
  2. Good to know. Kids seem like they’re gonna give me plenty of time to practice this year. I just hate wasting meat while I’m getting better.
  3. They’re plenty big enough for that I just suck at it. I need to get one of those electric filet knifes so I don’t have to scale them before fileting
  4. Kids crushed um last night
  5. Took the kids out for a few hours. Bass fishing was rough so we decided to slay some giant sunnys instead
  6. Do we think this guys been busy? lol. Warmer weather but mid day and the bass weren’t having it. Only one in a few hours but I had my kids with me and didn’t switch presentations as much as I wanted
  7. I throw mine on a 7’3” mag heavy dobyns fury
  8. No. Those fish are scaled. Fry whole then peel the fins that are left after frying. Doing it that way pulls out a lot of bones
  9. Seems like you need a taste tester. I'll begrudgingly do it.. let me know when you need my address
  10. That's the first and only color I've ever used. Got the nude rainbow and the perch colors to try instead
  11. My kids LOVE this crap fish... You can't see my daughter because she's just on the other side of her brother putting the prepped fish on the paper towels. They both absolutely love helping dad cook the fish they catch. Needed to get them cooked up just so they weren't sitting on ice/in the fridge any longer. Wasn't preparing to actually eat them with dinner. Kids just HAD to have a taste of one so I obliged. Next thing you know only bones are left and the kids are still screaming for more lol. Couldn't make me happier. I'm a MD guy and I honestly think the sweetness of bluegill meat reminds me of crab meat. Or maybe it was just me having to pick them last night so the kids didn't get any bones lol. Regardless, I'll be happy any time the kids want me to take those suckers home to eat.
  12. Been trying to hold off from ordering those magdrafts from Scheels because I don't need to spend the money right now. Broke off another wicked wacky hook last night and figured I should order more today while they're on sale. Go to order and now the albino colors are out of stock in the freestyle. Kicking myself now!
  13. Got back out again last night for a little 1 hour long session. I was curious how the last 2 days of cold temps and freeze warnings were going to effect the fish that had moved up shallow. Appeared most of the bigger ones had sunk back a bit while the smaller males were still holding shallow. Caught 5 again but a much smaller bag. Caught this pretty looking fish on the wacky rig. Everything else was caught via the ned and boy were they munching it! I kept getting short striked on the wacky rig. Figured they were just trying to move the bait instead of eating it. Well the ned rig had me sticking my whole hand in their mouth to unhook. I plan to get after them for a little longer on Saturday but the kids will be in tow so we'll see how productive that is lol. Did see a couple 3-4 pounders up shallow still and now I'm wondering if @casts_by_fly was correct about my fish the other day being a male.
  14. I must be doing something right in the hunting pics cause this one is truly representative lol
  15. No need to date yourself like that man lol
  16. 1 t liquid smoke 3/4 C soy sauce 1/2 C worchestshire 1 t garlic powder 1 t salt 1 t accent 1 t allspice 1 t pepper 1/2 C water 2 t onion flakes marinate for 3 days then dry and dehydrate/smoke
  17. Very interesting. I've never seen anyone do that before
  18. ^^^ Was going to say this just about exactly. You're still going to come back with crap on your "weedless" options half the time but it won't be as bad if you're going light weight or using some of the methods described above. If it's warm enough I'll start with top water. If that's not working test out a spinnerbait through the middle of the water column. Might get some slime but I find it easier to deal with on spinners. If that doesn't work, go to a weightless wacky or texas rig. The texas rig will be the most weedless but the wacky rig always gets bit. Drop shot can be deadly. Good luck
  19. Are you going to make it from ground or some cut you're going to slice?
  20. Water temps here should have been low 60s over the weekend after Sunday's 85 degree day but are back in the mid to upper 50s right now. Doubtful on the lack of food. The bluegills in this pond are plentiful and range from the size you'd like to live bait fish with for bass to ones that will fill a pan if you cook whole. My pb last year in late June certainly thought there was enough to eat lol.
  21. Got out for 45 mins last night and had my first good day of the year. 5 fish total with a decent one to boot on @BrianMDTX favorite senko. Opinions from everyone on pre or post spawn? From my observations the fish just moved up this weekend. Beds have been created and little males were everywhere. I thought this fish would be chunky and have a gut but she didn't at all and her weight was below what her frame looked like it should have been. Pinkish coloring around her anal fin on her belly but fin/tail didn't look bloody or rubbed. Caught right off the bank in like 2 foot of water on a farm pond. She lessened the pain of later breaking off on what I believe would have been my PB. I'll be back.
  22. I haven't used the treble. I like the freestyle because it's weedless Edit: yeah, what he said ^^^
  23. I use 6/0 1/4 oz owner beast hooks with twistlocks
  24. I can confirm. Bass destroy it
  25. My son and I hammered um on this weekend. He took 2nd place in the local fishing derby with his 13 1/4" trout. Took some bluegills home to boot. Awesome weekend!
