  1. Congrats, man! Seeing your fish makes me all the more confident that I lost a 7+ pounder last night ?
  2. I've got 6# sunline sniper on my spinning rod and it's been flawless
  3. Got to fish a private farm pond I haven't fished in 13-14 years last night. Planning to go there with my dad this weekend so I figured I'd stop by and see how the access is from the bank, what the algae is like, how the fish are acting right now, and just how much has changed there. We had scorching temperatures this weekend and the fish were AGGRESSIVE! I showed up with a frog, a bluegill squarebill, and a wacky rig. First cast I caught a 2 pounder and I knew I was in for a special evening. I made the most of 2 hours and caught somewhere around 12-15 fish with most being in the 2-3 pound range. All of them were spawned out as I expected but one was still fat. They were all shallow, assumingly feeding on the bluegills that are up spawning. I didn't switch any of my baits out because of how frenzied everything was but I'm assuming they would have bit anything last night. Most fun I've had in a longgg time and I really needed it after dealing with some personal stuff lately. And all of that doesn't even include the absolute behemoth I lost 6" from shore. The bank has a bit of a drop off that you need to walk down to get to the water. Not to mention, there's a bunch of farm cats that wait by your side to try to attack the fish you land lol. She blew up on my frog about 5-7 yards from shore. Swam parallel to the bank in front of me and I about lost my mind when I saw how long she was. She barely even swam to fight me just leaned all her weight against me. Biggest fish I've ever hooked so I can't say how big she COULD have been but I know without a doubt she was over 5 and I wouldn't be surprised if she was pushing 7-8+. I'm guessing I tried to muscle her a little too much in all the adrenaline and dealing with the cats and the drop off and she got off before I could get down to her. Legit had her at the bank but just didn't have myself there in time. Absolute heartbreak and I may have said some words loud enough to get the cows mooing but I'll be back for her til I get her. This is what my frog looked like after I lost her. And the sign of an awesome day!
  4. Nothing major but just got a River2Sea Whopper Plopper in Perch
  5. Yup, river flows North. Gauge fluctuation is from the dam release. Looks like they'll do those Monday and Tuesday between 10am-1pm but I'm guessing the Friday rain will add one before then as well. Looks like you're correct on the spawning. DNRs weekly report yesterday said smallmouth in the Deep Creek Lake have already spawned so I'm assuming they have in the river as well. I love fishing the squarebill. Might have to bounce a crawfish colored one around for a while. Last year I was using a bluegill color and it was getting hit on impact basically. Thanks for the response.
  6. Supposed to get an inch of rain Friday and another 1/4 on Saturday so I'm guessing clarity will be low and water will be high. Plus temps are going to sink. Not ideal. They should have started to spawn about a week or two ago from what I've seen. Looks like the water temp in the river yesterday started at 60 and moved all the way up to 72. After this rain/cold spell I'm guessing I'll be looking at upper 50s to mid 60s. I had luck with the squarebill last year in this spot but that was middle of the summer.
  7. Anyone with experience fishing rocky bottom rivers in the mountains during late May early June?
  8. Heading to Western MD this weekend with the family and should have a couple hours to get some lines wet in the Yough for the first time this year. Weather doesn't look like it's going to be ideal but that's life. I'd likely be fishing near Friendsville, just wading through the river. Any tips for what the fish are doing/biting right now? A few techniques I was considering are a tube, wacky rig, swimbait, and jerkbait. Maybe t-rig a lizard or brush hog or throw the whopper plopper around. Anything you'd remove or prepare for instead? Thanks in advance!
  9. Interesting. I'd imagine the water temp in my local pond is a little higher but I'm also in Northern MD so maybe not? Males have been on beds all over the pond and aggressively chasing off gills. Haven't seen any coupled up though
  10. My kids and I got into them pretty good for ya. I was able to keep attention and peace for 30-45 minutes lol. Landed 8 or 9 of them with 4 keeper size. There's some absolute giants in there but you've gotta weed through the feisty small ones to get to them. We'll be back
  11. The local pond I've been bass fishing lately has some giant bluegills in it. My son absolutely loves to keep fish to eat so I plan on taking him tonight actually and hope to stack a few up.
  12. The wacky rig strikes again
  13. Largemouth. Really clear and bank fishing
  14. Say you have confidence is several rods to place your lure where you need it to be. What power and action would be your go to?
  15. Curious to hear what everyone's favorite bed fishing lures are, but more importantly, what rod you pair with them to get the job done. Thanks!
  16. The bite was on last night with lots of bass up shallow. I lost more than I'd care to admit but it was the most fun I've had in a while fishing. Here's a decent 2lb 8oz
  17. Have had solid success with neds but I always fished them more like a shaky head. In the summer that got AGGRRESSIVE bites. In the winter, bites were so timid I thought I had algae instead of fish. Thankful for this thread because I had for some reason never thought of just swimming it back to me. Gonna give that a go tonight or at least sometime soon. Thanks!
  18. Megabass 110 A-rigs Andddd now a popmax ?
  19. If you've got $250 then I'd go the stradic route as mentioned. If you want to spend less look at the Daiwa BG or Tatula
  20. MH/F as said above. Length dependent on your preference
  21. I'd say you can flip and pitch to spots you don't need to punch through. There are some spots you have to punch through that flipping and pitching doesn't work. I.e: I can flip and pitch a dock without needing to get through matted grass. But flipping and pitching a big mat won't be as effective as punching through it.
  22. Yup, that’s more the size I saw lol. That last one had quite the appetite!
  23. I saw someone catch one smaller just the other day. I have absolutely no idea how he did it lol. I need to find the pic
  24. These answers are exactly what I've found to be true. I've got the same green slimy crap in every pond I fish. Seems like no matter what you do, you're picking snot off every cast. Weightless and weedless have been the best options I've found. I have good luck with spinnerbaits as well. I'm ready for the top water bite to heat up so I don't have to deal with that junk as much.
