First fish of 2010 for us.
I finally found a little time to get out and do some fishing yesterday while the kids were at school and Matt could find some time to pencil me into his schedule for about 2 hours or so. I had one place in mind and I could not wait to get there. We started working our way around the lake soaking in as much sunshine as we could and it was fantastic to be outside fishing and not freezing. It seems like it has been a very long winter and I am now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. ;D The water at the lake was still cold and a little high but surprisingly clear. Finally we got around to the side of the lake where I was a little anxious to get to. I know there is a nice little ledge there that goes from some deeper water to shallow and my thoughts were the fish just may be hanging around there. It was not long and I heard a splash... I looked up the shoreline and Matt had a fish and it was his first for the year and I am sure it is only the beginning of good things to come for him. His weapon of choice was the Ragetail space monkey. Not long after his catch it was my turn and I had one on too. That first nibble was the most awesome feeling in the world! Setting the hook was even better.;D I got it to shore it was the most beautiful thing that I have seen in a long time. No it was not huge but it sure was awesome! My weapon of choice was a jig and a Ragetail craw. This was my first fish on my new rod and the new reel I got for my birthday too. Both of them worked out great for me too. Both fish had some really red lips like they always seem to have this time of the year. Seems like the two hours we had went by too fast and pretty soon it was time to go and pick up the kids but I am planning on getting out there again asap. I hope you all had the chance to get out there and soak up some sunshine too. ;D

scrounger vs. sworming hornet "shaker"
I fish the scroungers quite a bit and they don't look to be the same thing to me. The scroungers have a plastic thingy on the front. They come in a few different sizes and add action to any soft plastic. Here is some pics of the scrounger close up. http://thescrounger.com/news/

RT Eeliminator
Eels are great. I like to use the white ones and fish them topwater on the river for smallmouth. I fish them real slow just lifting the rod tip ever so slightly and the bait does the rest. They have a nice wide wobble. If the water temps were cold I would carolina rig them. I think the wide wobble goes great with the cool temps. Good luck to you.

Keeping her interested
First off I think it is great that you take your girlfriend fishing with you. As for keeping her interested just keep it fun, no pressure. If she wants to use the bobber let her, the more fun it is the more she will want to go and her choices in what she would like to fish with with progress in their own time. On a side note my hubby says to be careful what you ask for you just might get it. ;D

Shawnee Lake..
Sunday afternoon Matt and I hired our oldest to do a little babysitting for us so we could get out and do a little fishing since the weather was supposed to be around 65 degrees with an abundance of sunshine. What a great day it was too. We decided to try Shawnee Lake since neither of us has been there in a while. We started off fishing in deeper water which is where I was sure the fish would be holding but after a little time had passed without so much as a bite we decided it was time for a change of plans. We ended up heading up the lake to where the creek feeds into it. The water was much shallower up here but I was hoping for success. We followed along the main channel and fished all along the edges of it. I was pleasantly surprised to at the amount of fish activity along here. Finally we had some success. I ended up with the first fish of the day and it was a snotrocket. I just love catching snotrockets. ;D This one kind of bit me back and left my finger bleeding a bit but oh well it was worth it. It was not long and my husband had the first bass of the day and the biggest bass for the day as well. We picked up a few more fish following the same pattern. I must say the warmer temps were such a pleasant surprise for November fishing. I think this time last year I was wearing a snowsuit on the boat. ;D I like yesterdays temps a whole lot better. ;D All the fish I caught today were caught on a smokin rooster. Love this bait. I usually fish it on a keel weighted hook and dip the tail in a little bit of spike it. I like to drag this one along the bottom pausing every so often to see if I have any takers and it always surprises me how hard the fish nail this bait. All of my husbands fish were caught yesterday on the Junebug Rage hawg. A few more pics of our day.. It seems every fish I have caught in the past few trips out lately have had really red lips. Not sure why. Any ideas?

Kentucky Lake on Veteran's Day
Great fish and pics. The finesse jig and baby craw has been one of my most productive baits this year.

Short outing and a few bass
Sent the kiddies off to school today, jumped into my waders and headed out to my favorite local lake for a few hours today. It was about 60 degrees and beautiful. Just a light breeze and plenty of abundant sunshine today. Awesome day for fishing. Wish the fish knew what a good day it was for fishing because the fishing was definitely tougher today. Started off fishing the point on the lake that is my favorite to fish. It has given up some nice size fish to me in the past and I was hoping for a repeat. Managed to pick up a few and so did the Mr. but not the size I was looking for. Here is the first fish of the day. Caught this one on a jig and baby craw. I cannot seem to take a jig off of my line since I started using them. Not sure if it is a good thing or not. After spending a little time there I decided to start working my way towards another place that I like alot on the other end of the lake. I picked another on my way over to it. Was nice to be in waders at this time of the year when the weedbeds are all but gone and I could really walk around explore the bottom of the lake. Taking notes of several little details of the place that I did not know were there. ;D We ended up catching a few more fish and before we knew it, it was time to go and pick up the kiddies from school the day went too fast as usual. The last fish of the day I caught on a bigger jig and a rage chunk. I am bound and determined to start throwing the bigger jigs more often. ;D No big fish today but some days it is just great to be out. ;D
