  1. does it handle 1/2oz chatterbaits with a trailer without any problem? I've used 3/8oz on mine but never more than that.
  2. I'm in the process of looking for a skipping rod and reel to skip jigs and creature baits under the tons of docks at most of the lakes I fish around here. I've been looking at the Daiwa Tatula Elite skipping jig rod in 6'9" and 7'1" heavy. Anyone have experience with either rod and what the advantages would be to the shorter or longer version? I'm also assuming the Daiwa Tatula SV TW (2020 version) would be a good reel to go with the rod?
  3. I've been seriously considering the endurance 725cb. I'm having problems deciding between that and the Phenix X10. I only throw 1 and 1.5 strike king kvd squarebills (3/8oz and 7/16oz) and some of the strike king lipless (1/2oz).
  4. depending on the size of jigs you are using I'd look into the Kaden 744 or the Kaden 745. I don't fish a lot of heavy jigs. I use mostly 3/8oz swim jigs and 3/8oz and 1/2oz football jigs on my Kaden 744 and love it. If you are going to be going heavier than 1/2oz I'd recommend the 745.
  5. I have mostly Daiwa reels and have a few that are older than time and still work perfectly. With rods I'm not as strict and have several manufacturers. I do really like my Dobyns rods though.
  6. It's a great rod. Like some people have said it has a little faster tip than a normal heavy action rod. I have the exact rod and use it for spinnerbaits and several other things. It is a very versatile rod and very strong and sensitive.
  7. yeah, I don't really plan going much over 1/2oz anyways.
  8. Are you looking for a spinning outfit or a baitcast outfit? Also, what do you consider finesse???
  9. I've narrowed the list down to 2 different crankbait rods. They are: Powell ENDURANCE 725 CB or Phenix X-Series Composite Crankbait Casting Rod (X10 to be specific) They are both Medium Heavy/Moderate Fast and are almost the same price and both have limited lifetime warranties. Anyone have experience with either rod?
  10. Yeah, I'm likely going to grab the X10.
  11. What's everyone's experiences with Phenix casting rods? I'm looking at the Phenix X-Series Composite Crankbait Casting Rods. Specifically the X9 or X10. I'd be using the rod for 1 and 1.5 squarebills and some small topwater stuff (1/2oz whopper ploppers, 3/8oz and 1/2oz poppers, and 3/8oz sexy dawg jrs and other similiar size walking baits).
  12. Do you think the 7'4" medium heavy would work good for what I mentioned or would the medium be better?
  13. Looking for a glass cranking rod to use with 1 and 1.5 squarebills, 1/2oz lipless crankbaits, and various topwaters (whopper plopper medium size, kvd sexy dawgs jr, poppers, and several others), and 3/8oz and 1/2 chatterbaits. What's some that you'd recommend??
  14. What would be the best gear ratio for 3/8oz spinnerbaits and buzzbaits? Maybe even a 1/2oz of either thrown in every once in a while.
  15. Looks like I might have to go back to the store when they open monday. lol Don't know how they are able to sell it cheaper than every other place. A lot of their reel are cheaper. They also had the lews tournament pro for 150 and its normally 199 everywhere.
  16. They only had a 6.3 and an 8.1. They didn't have a 7.3 and said they didnt know when they would get a 7.3 since everyone is low on stock.
  17. If you had to pick would the 6.3 or the 8.1 be better for that?
  18. Don't know if the 7.3:1 would be better or if the 6.3:1 would be better for what I'd use it for. I would be using it for light texas rigs (1/4-5/16oz and maybe a little bigger, but not much), senkos, flukes, and other small finesse type stuff. Found a brand new Daiwa SV TW (new 2020 version) for like $50 cheaper at a small shop here. They only had the 6.3 and I think they had an 8.1. The rod is a sierra 703c by the way.
  19. Are you really going to be able to tell that much difference between a 6.3:1 and a 7.3:1 baitcast reel? The 6.3:1 reel is 24.8 line per crank and the 7.3:1 reel is 28 line per crank. Are you really going to notice 3.2 line per crank???
  20. ok cool! I was looking at one of the daiwa guys videos and noticed the one he was using was flexing almost down to the handle. I think it was the medium action elite rod. Looking for one to use with small squarebills, size 1 and 1.5 (3/8 oz and 7/16oz) and possibly 1/2oz lipless crankbaits. I really like the looks of the tatula elite glass rods. Mainly interetested in the Daiwa Tatula Elite Cranking Rod 7'4" Med Hvy Ehrler rod. Any experience with them?
  21. I've seen there are a lot of companies making glass casting rods for bass fishing. Are there any real advantages to glass casting rods or is it just a gimmick? Are they mostly for crankbait fishing? I've owned several glass fly fishing rods for trout and they are nice but very flexible and I've used them for mostly very small streams with small trout. Will a glass rod really withstand a huge bass?
  22. Anyone used Dirty Jigs? I'm specifically looking at the Dirty Jigs Matt Herren Flippin' jigs. Also, just out of curiosity, why does it seem like the largest most companies make in flipping jigs is 5/8oz?
  23. What's the best gear ratio for spinnerbaits and texas rigs??
  24. How do they not get snagged every time you cast since they don't have a weed guard? Do you rig the trailer different? Ohhh I just noticed it has a screw lock like a shakey head and you just rig the trailer texas rigged. Kinda neat.
