Bonus fish
I'm waiting till this evening as the temp is still around 92 and humid. I decided to cool off and surf the forum. I hope to be up and runnning by tomorrow morning. Maybe the traffic won't be to bad at sunrise. I suspect most of today's joyriders will be sleeping it off till 10 or 11 . Thanks for the concern.

Bonus fish
Hey fellow smallie lovers. Haven't posted in a while but couldn't resist showing this one. I had been out since 5:30 am and had caught four largemouth (1 1/2 to 3 lbs.) on topwater before 8:00. Switched to a powerworm but nothing but little ones as the sun beat down (92 degrees by 10:00). Water temps were in the low 80's.. I decided to crank up and come in (jetskiers and yachts were churning up the water >. But alas my 175hp Mariner decided to not cooperate. Turned the key to the sounds of silence . Checked battery, fuses and all was good but still no turning over. I no longer have a cranking rope so I headed in on the trolling motor. I was only about a 1 mile down river from the dock so what the heck I decided to fish my way back. Got out a crawdad colored ShadRap and proceeded to cast my way in. No luck until I got to the mouth of the creek where the dock was and felt a hard tug on the line. I shut the trolling motor down and was about to turn around thinking I was hung up when I felt the persistent tucking. As I reeled in I thought I had a big drum or catfish as this fish didn't want to come in. But then as I got it within 15' I could see this one still trying to head for the bottom. Once landed I measured 23 1/2" and weighed 4lbs 1oz. Sure felt a lot bigger!!! My camera was in the truck so I put em in the livewell and continued in. Sorry about the way its photographed but 4lbs of flopping fish is hard to hold at arms length and still get in the frame and click. Great way to end the day ;D

Love those Pics. Nothing better than Dad & son out together catching a few. Some of my best memories are being out with Dad (He almost always out fished me but when I beat him -SWEET!! ;D and unforgettable!)

Pickwick
The fishing can be great when the turbines are on! Try a dropshot rig with a grub or live minnows in the eddies. Crankbaits work too but be prepared to hangup as the riprap and tangled lines will grab your lure in the swift current. Cast upstream and let the rig come back with the current until your sinker catches then let it float in the current. Hang on tight because you might catch anything from bass to large drum or big stripers. Good luck

Good weekend in AL.
Roadwarrior, sounds good, IM me some time when you're ready to come down. Fishing's been slow > the last few weeks due to the cold snap but looks to improve soon . I grew up fishing the midlake area and find that when the turbines are not running that I have better luck in that area

Good weekend in Alabama
There is a good creek channel directly across from the Rose trail dock. If you have a good map it will indicate a couple of old bridges. I have caught some good ones off those with jig & pig. Out in the main river (northside) and upstream a couple of miles are several humps, stumps & submerged islands. (Brush Creek area). Crankbaits & spinners are goodover the submerged stuff. Worms and grubs around visible islands.

Good weekend in Alabama
I caught these three smallies on Pickwick Lake on three consecutive stumps 3/24/07. Used a chartreuse spinner bait with willowleaf blades. water temps about 63 degrees. Due to some criticism received on another website concerning Catch & Release stating that I didn't release unless I lived in a lakeside home I would like to add that I live on Spring Creek 1/2 mile up from the river. The treeline of the creek is visible in the backgrd of the pic with the boat. A quick walk down to the creekside and these big boys were headed home!! (approx 3 miles from catch site) I would like to add that, while I advocate catch & release, I do not oppose keeping occasional fish for the table or trophy. A good article about this very thing is available here at http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/catch_and_release_bass.html. I have been fishing since I was old enough to hold a pole. My father was a founding member of the Tennessee River Bass club in the early 70's prior to the Bassmasters which later absorbed the TRB. Catch & release was indoctrinated at an early age but also tempered with the knowledge that Momma like to eat fish. The panfish (crappie & bream) were the best but absent a good catch an occasional bass was included. I may be blackballed by you guys for my opinion but do look over the above article before criticizing anyone who would say differently. Bass fishing in Pickwick has gone down since the instituting of C&R and could very well be part of the cause. I don't advocate keeping the larger fish (unless trophies) and thank someone for the opportunity to catch these three as I am sure someone had released them in the past. Sorry about the preachin. :
