  1. FYI Alabama is ranked 31st nationally & 6th in SEC. and the answer is - 1st, 10th, 64th respectively. Number of teams with a higher ranked pass offense than Florida that Bama has beaten - 6 lost - 0 8-) I'm glad the games are won on the field not on the rankings. What I find interesting is that the SEC #1 pass efficiency/rushing offense leader (FL) & #1 pass efficiency/rush defense (Bama) will be going at it. Should be a good matchup.
  2. Give it up Root Beer. You will never get any appreciation for Bama from Catt as long as Saban is coach! On the other hand I wouldn't call that game "awesome". Sloppy and gut wrenching are more accurate. We were lucky to get out with a win. I was disappointed with JP and his "copycat Tebow" move. :-[ He should have left the classless acts to the LSU fans. Jones & Coffee were the only bright spots we had going for us on offense. Julio played like a madman . At least we will get a shot at Florida and who would want to watch another Florida/LSU slaughter other than a bunch of Gators. ;D ROLL TIDE ROLL
  3. And how many quality wins for the Tigers? Auburn? :. Who won the Georgia/LSU game? :'(. The cooler heads will prevail. Bama wins!
  4. Bama leaves Death Valley to the sweet refrains of " rammerjammer Yellow Hammer". Bama 30 LSU 14 with at least one touchdown by the Bama defense. 8-)
  5. Use a variable speed buffer not the dual handle orbital single speed. Single speed units don't run fast enough to do a good job. Run the variable speed at around the 4-5 setting then increase slightly as you feel the surface smoothing out. Don't run to high a speed or you could burn the gelcoating. It's a lot of work but well worth it. before: after:
  6. I use a collapsible swimming pool pole with a U-bolt through the end where the net would insert. It will reach out 18' and allows me to pull the branch down to me or wrap the line around the U-bolt and break it off. Of course, I never have an errant cast but just in case a buddy does :. This also works well for a baitknocker in treetops & stump flats or a pushpole for shallow waters.
  7. I spent my lunch hour down below Wilson Dam today. I had my baitcaster and two lures with me and after wolfing down my lunch I scampered down the rocks to riverside and proceeded to do a little fishin'. After several casts up and across current, I tossed an Xtreme Shad Rap quartered out and downstream. I allowed the current to produce most of the action, twitching and suspending the lure when all H*** broke loose. This smallie jumped clear of the water four times and was determined to stay out in the swift water. I'm trying to work my way down the rocks closer to the water and thinking I might not be able to land this fish but the Good Lord smiled and gave me a small shallow area at the base of the rocks. Now I'm thinking- WHY DIDN'T I BRING MY SCALES AND CAMERA!! I measured with my rod, snapped a pic with the phone and slid it back into the water. Fish measured 21" - no girth measurement. Allowing 14" on girth would put it at slightly over 5 lbs. The tailfin was really damaged at the top. Looked like something had chewed a quarter of it away. I've seen better looking fish but the fight was all there. ;D
  8. Give me a break Big XII!!! The Sooners have played no ranked teams and not one of the Big XII have played anyone within their own conference yet. Most of the games that all three (OU, TX & Mizzou) have played have been at home. I'll be waiting to see a few games away against ranked teams (TX vs OU) before I'm impressed. AP Poll for September 28th #1 Oklahoma #2 Alabama #3 LSU #4 Missouri #5 Texas We've been to a funeral, Death Valley won't scare us. :
  9. Yeah that is disconcerting. :-/ I don't know if Richt woke up the Dawgs at the half or Bama just became a little over confident. I think it will be awhile before Georgia wears black again!! ;D. Hey don't give up yet. The way Georgia came back was scary. A lot of teams would have given up. The Dawgs kept trying. A one loss team may be in the national championship with the way things are going.
  10. I'm not quite ready to declare the Tide national championship material yet but last night's game showed what they are capable of when all cylinders are firing. J.P. Wilson was spot on. Now if he can be consistent game after game. I have to give credit to the Dawgs for making the 2nd half interesting. If the boys stay focused Kentucky & Tennessee should be a given with LSU our next major test but, who knows, in the SEC anything can happen. I'm looking for Bama to be #3 in tomorrow's AP poll. Oh yeah and look out War Spread Eagle, the Tide is rolling your way. Fear the One! Roll TIDE Roll!!!
  11. Nice Pics. That's what can happen if you ride out the weather.
  12. I'd leave the camera home everytime if I thought it would make a difference! ;D
  13. Smallmouth are few and far between this time of year. My best catch this July was a 2#3oz last week on Pickwick off the stump flats around Seven Mile Island. I haven't been out on Wilson this month.
  14. Gamedog, welcome to the forum. I primarily fish from a boat but when time is short I like to fish below Wilson Dam. There are several areas accessible from the bank. The area right down by the boat launch has a point where you can cast into the eddies. I caught a 3# largemouth there last fall using a green pumpkin tube. You might also try the McFarland Harbor. A lot of baitfish stay in that area. I caught a 2# while waiting to takeout this past wkend. Good luck & tight lines!!
  15. Haven't been hiding - just fishing. Caught those three last year - nothing to brag about this year -- Yet! The fall season is right around the corner. RW, we'll have to give the tailwaters below Wilson another shot.
  16. 5#12oz from Pickwick Lake followed by a 4#10oz & 4#4oz all within 45 min of each other. Best 45 min of smallie fishing I ever experienced! 8-)
  17. Excellent video Glenn!! Great to finally see the fish pics and all the great folks again. Hope to see ya'll in Kentucky!!
  18. Try the area around Hawg Island. The creek and cove to the south supply baitfish and the current is still strong when the water is being released. Check a topo map because there are numerous drainage ditches and the water can be shallow in close to the island. Tubes, jigs, spinners and at that time of year don't rule out topwater. Good luck!
  19. You know your addicted when you get in from a week long fishing trip and the first thing you do before going home is hit the local river cause there's still a few hours of daylight left. :
  20. Thanks RW, I cried out in pain when I saw those beauties knowing I'll never have the opportunity to catch em.
  21. Speed coils were fried in the lower unit. Guess I'll think twice before purchasing another big ticket item on Ebay. Found the new one on Trollingmotorparts.com for $69.95.
  22. Welcome aboard Sammie!! Glad to see a fellow Alabama member on the forum.
  23. My 6 mth old Motorguide footcontrolled trolling motor just crapped out on me and made me cut my trip to the BR roadtrip short . I had pulled up close to the bank to help my fishing partner get unhung, and as I pulled out, the prop was cutting through the dead weed stalks, when it quit. It was in the lowest setting 1 (5 speed 24 v) so I cranked it up to 2 - no response - 3 & it kicked on. I then turned to 4 and it quit - 5 & and it kicked on again. When I returned it to 1 it ran but made a curious whine, 2 - the same, 3 - ran fine, 4 nothing, 5 fine. Later on 1,2 & 3 all produced only the #3's rpm. No 4. 5 still ran perfect. Took it out on the lake here at home and after running for a short time as described above I lost all but #5. Has anyone every suffered through this or have any clues? I checked my switch connections annd they are intact. Removed head cover and all connections are good there. My next move is to disconnect the leads from the rheostat and check for burnt switches but I'm thinking the windings may be shot. I purchased the thing, new, on Ebay so warranty is out of the picture. I'm a master electrician and know how to check everthing but thought someone might save me some time. It's prime smallie time here on Pickwick and it's killing me .
  24. Yeah - makes me proud to be able to associate with everyone here. If I hadn't wanted to come back and get busy on the motor, someone would have given me a ride so I could fish that day, without a doubt. And now that I've checked out the Big G, I'll go back (I'm only 2 hrs away 8-)) & next time - look out
  25. Hey folks. I want to extend my thanks to all those responsible for the 3rd Annual Roadtrip! While I didn't do so well ( caught 2, 1 keeper, 1 dink in three days), I had a great time meeting our fellow members. I'm gonna blame the bad weather (1st two nights down to 29 & 30, winds of 25 mph during the day) and my dang 6 mth old trolling motor crapping out on my second day out. Lost three speeds out of five, the two lowest (and most needed) really making it difficult to fish the shallow water and the wind in the main lake. I'm sure a better angler could have overcome all of that but so it goes. Enough of the excuses!! My personal thanks go out to Glenn and his wife, Kari, for developing a website that anyone from a novice to a professional can learn from. Both he and his wife are great people and I enjoyed meeting and talking with them. I'd also like to thank - ALPSTER for his hard work on the Roadtrip details MUDDY for the excellent meatballs! GHOTI and his wife for the Fish camp pasta dinner and allowing me to share a cabin with them. I never really thought about how much work the moderators put in on this forum (for free) and my hats off to the ones I met - ROADWARRIOR (who fished wtih me on the 1st day) and to the ones who had to stay behind, LBH & FIVEBASS - Thanks for all the work behind the scenes keeping this site safe and awesome!! Hope to meet you guys down the road (Kentucky Lake I hear) I decided to leave out Thursday morning to try and get my trolling motor repaired as here in Northwest Alabama, the smallmouth are really getting hot. When I left I believe AJ & Jimzee had the most largemouth caught and Jeff had cornered the spotted bass market catching at least 40 with Kari and Bob Lusk and 30 the day before with Senko77. Conditions were rough as stated above and the secret, for largemouth, was finding the warmest water available. Water temps ran from as low as 50 in some creek channels to 55 on the main lake. Pockets could be found that ran as high as 63 in shallow grass that had been shielded from wind and were exposed to all day sunshine. Unfortunately, with so much water to cover, I didn't locate them till Wednesday and the water was dropping making getting in them tough. High speed on a trolling motor really stirred up the bottom. Ghoti's wife caught a nice one on a Senko right after we drifted up but after turning the motor on I'm sure I spooked any remaining fish as I saw at least one nice one streak out to the deeper water. The guest speaker on Wednesday night was a fisheries biologist, Bob Lusk. He has built ponds and lakes for the likes of Ray Scott and Bill Dance. He shared his knowledge of the food chain and structure with us in a very entertaining talk. I understood him to say that he is writing an article to be published here at BassResource. Everyone should give it a read, especially those of you who fish small impoundments and ponds. To MassholeMike, who I had the privilege of fishing with - hope you tore em up. Great guy. If you live in his area, take him with you fishing. To Senko77, who I had the privilege of sharing a room with - hope you did well in the tourney. looking forward to hearing about it and thanks for the letting me try out the Mattlures bluegill. Would I do it again? You bet ya. You couldn't have a better bunch to fish and kick back with. Here's to all the people I met . Hope you all caught a PB. To the rest of you on the forum, don't miss out on another Roadtrip!! Tight lines to all. PS. Did I forget? BASSRESOURCE.com ROCKS!!!
