Bass Pro Shops Leases The Memphis Pyramid!
Only one I really know of is Gator Brown's bait shop in Bartlett and the lake store at Glenn Springs, and most all have limited supply. Oh, there's Sam's bait shop on Jackson Avenue, but never been in there. I do know that Gator Brown will order stuff if he doesn't have it. He probably has the best selection for the bass fisherman.

Bass Pro Shops Leases The Memphis Pyramid!
This is awesome Kent! Now it will only be 5 minutes away from my house! Supposed to be larger than the store in Springfield complete with hotel, indoor cypress swamp and numerous exhibits inside. Can't wait to see the finished product. Slated to open by November 2011.

Pickwick gives up New PB yesterday! Gotta love ledge fishin'!
What a day. I got off of work a little early and decided I had enough time to make the 2 hour drive to Pickwick to fish for the afternoon, especially after I saw they were pulling lots of current. I put in and went to my first spot and there was a boat near it, so I moved on to a ledge I like to fish and there was a boat trolling for crappie on it, so I went to my next spot about 1/2 mile down the lake. Nobody there! Now mind you, I don't have GPS on my electronics, so the offshore thing for me is frustrating sometimes because I have to do it the old fashioned way. I have to use land markers, such as certain trees, or a change in the contour of the bank, to get my bearings and get somewhat close and then zig zag until I find the spot I'm looking for. Well, I found my trusty ol tree on the bank and thought I was just far enough out and sure enough, I pulled right up to it the first time. It's a ridge or ledge that runs out diagonally to the main river channel. There's a sweet spot on this ledge where it makes a cut or a bend in it which isn't but about 2 boat lengths across and has several submerged brush piles and trees on it. When I went over it, my graph just lit up like a Christmas tree and I said to myself, "Here we go..." Made the first cast with a 3/4 oz PB&J Football Jig w/ a Falcon Craw trailer and it had just gotten to the bottom. I hopped it a couple times and let it fall back to the bottom and hopped it again, only this time, the line stayed slack on the fall and I immediately dropped the rod, reeled the slack and swung for the fences and the fight was on! I never felt the fish hit, but knew from watching the line that something wasn't right. This fish pulled drag and never wanted to quit. Anyhow, I finally got her into the boat and immediately measured her, took a pic and released her. I didn't have my scale with me in the boat, so I took length and girth measurements cause I was sure this was bigger than the 8.5 lber I caught last year on an Annie that ended up being my PB. This fish ended up being 23.5 inches long and 17 inches in girth, which if the weight calculator here on Bass Resources is right, would put the fish at 9.20 lbs and would indeed be a new PB for me! Either way, I knew it was one of the biggest fish I had ever caught. I was so excited I called my buddies Big-O and RonDef right there on the water! I ended up with several more 3-4 lb fish off of this spot as well after cathing the big one. Gotta love summertime ledge fishin' on these TN River lakes! Only taken Skillet out a few times. Haven't fished with anyone else. I've mostly been at Pickwick the last 4-6 weeks. Haven't fished anywhere else.

You can hit a lot of the rocky points in Yellow Creek for the first hour of daylight with a devils horse or a spook and catch the mess out of em. Then switch to a crankbait as they go deeper. Most of my fish have come on 3/4 - 1 oz Football Jigs w/ Rage Craw trailers and 10 inch T-rigged Rage Tail Thumpers, as well as Carolina Rigged Lizards and finesse worms. If they're pulling current, I don't even mess with the topwater bite on the points. I just head straight out to the ledges and humps and start deep. Get your arm broke dragging that big jig across them shell beds! Also, if you put in at Stateline Ramp where Roadwarrior mentioned, take that jig/craw and/or a shakey head and hit the boatdocks on the left hand side in Yellow Creek coming out of the no wake area. Exit the no wake area and head towards the main lake. On your left you'll see 4 white bouys that mark a hump. Fish those boat houses right there. That hump comes up to 3-5 ft and then drops down to around 25 ft and then comes back up to 8-10 ft by the boathouses. Boathouses have been real good, especially when the sun gets up high.

Myself, Roadwarrior, Bassin901, skillet, Mr. Mallard, and I'm sure there are more that I don't know about, but those are a few that I know are from the Memphis area. I mostly just fish Pickwick, Ky Lake, and the Beech Lakes and a few of the TWRA lakes.

Been catching some good fish in Yellow these last few weeks, but most of my fish have been coming from the ledges and humps in 19-25 ft of water out on the main lake. You can fish all of Yellow all the way to the Scruggs bridge where the Tombigbee starts with a MS License, as well as all the way down to the mouth of Bear Creek, if I remember correctly.

Caught in a Thunderstorm!
Last year we were on Kentucky Lake near Paris Landing, pre-fishing for our 2-day club tourney on a Friday. They were calling for some pretty nasty weather that day, so we decided we'd keep an eye out and just take cover if possible or just beach the boat if need be and ride it out. (We were in a Bass Tracker as well) Well, we had a good one pop up and we decided to beach the boat immediately as we had no where close to take cover. Storm passes and we go back out to fishing and off and on all day long, you could feel the tip of the rod vibrating and see it 'ticking' from all of the electricity in the air. We get back to the ramp and there's a news van at Buchanan's resort where all of us stay every year. Turns out, two of our guys were out pre-fishing as well, and decided they were close enough to make it back to the ramp. They were running his Ranger with a 200 on the back and doing about 65 when lightning struck the recession plate for the trolling motor pedal. Shut the whole boat down and they went from 65 to nothing and threw both of them up onto the front deck by the trolling motor from the sudden stop. Fried everything in the boat, from the electronics to the outboard, trolling motor, etc....Lucky they weren't killed and only escaped with a few bruises.

PB Spot from Memorial Day Weekend!
You have no idea! He just never quit. He hit me on a long cast and I immediately knew it was a good fish, because of the head shake. Actually, it was more of a head wobble because it was much slower than a typical head shake you feel. I've never had a fish dig as much as that one did and just didn't want to come up at all. By far the best fight I've had with a fish!

Pranks
There was a group of us on a trip down Guntersville and we have the one guy who is the perpetual 'know it all', one-upper, can't stand to be out caught by anybody, has the latest and greatest most expensive toys.....you get the picture. Guy means well, but most of us in the group can only take so much of this guy before we're ready to shut him up ourselves. We were having a friendly little tournament and he had just bought a brand new 21 ft Skeeter with a 225 V-Max. The night before I snuck out of the room and unplugged the extension cord going to his charger and flipped the kill switch on his boat under the throttle. The other guys were in on it and the next morning you should've seen him crying when the other 4 boats in the group blasted off and left him and his $40,000 toy sitting there. He was already complaining that he just knew he had plugged in his battery charger the night before. Said he fished for the first couple hrs with the trolling motor til it died and didn't think to check the kill switch until we had about an hour left til we all met up!

PB Spot from Memorial Day Weekend!
That's funny you say that. My partner has a Red 175 also, but with a 60 on it. I thought it was him at first. We were sitting on one of the ledges between Yellow Creek and Mill Hollow and I saw a Red Tracker fishing one of the bluff walls there and I kept looking to see if it was him, but I could tell from the motor it wasn't.

PB Spot from Memorial Day Weekend!
Haven't bee on in awhile and thought I'd share it over here also. Fished Pickwick for most of the holiday week and smoked the fish out there. Lots of 3-5 lb fish. I was fishing humps and drops around 11-19 ft deep and caught a ton of fish on 1/2 oz Football jigs w/ Rage Craw trailers and 3/8 oz T-rigged Rage Tail Thumpers. This PB was of the Spotted Bass variety and fell victim to the jig and craw. 20 inches long and right at 5 lbs.

Have you ever caught a bass with someone else lure in it's mouth?
Happened twice in the last two days on Pickwick. Caught a 15 inch Largemouth that someone had broken off their Carolina Rig on. Had the 18 inch leader with swivel and the hook stuck in it's gullet with the lizard still there. I unhooked it going through the gills and he swam off no problem. That was Wednesday. Yesterday I caught a 14 inch Smallmouth that had a hook with a big Gambler Craw type bait in it's gullet, which I removed as well.

We fished a tournament there Sunday. Did you guys put in at Wallace? Who do you fish with?

Strike King Smokin Rooster
Love em! Awesome on a C-rig, T-rig and using it on a 1/4 oz. keel weighted 5/0 hook. Becoming one of my favorites for pitching and flipping, though.

Ky Lake Closed
Pickwick is open. The closure starts at the Pickwick Dam on the river side and runs North 206 miles to Paducah, KY.

You're Invited to the 5th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
Pickwick itself is ok, but from the Pickwick Dam north up to Paducah, KY is closed to recreational boating. That's a 206 mile stretch, due to high waters and excessive river drift. Saw that on the news this morning.

Trailers for swim jigs

Information about Pickwick Lake
Oh, definitely. Instead of turning left right there at the State Park to enter, just keep heading straight about 4 miles. You will come to a Gas Station on your left called the Sportsman's One Stop. Make a left right there and that is a public ramp which is free and puts you right in Yellow Creek. If you cross over into Mississippi and go over a bridge crossing the water, you went too far! It's called Stateline Ramp.

what are they doing at glenn springs??? and Cold creek?
Will do. May be tomorrow afternoon before I get out there and I'll be there at daylight Friday. Topwater bite should be awesome right now with the algae blowing up like it has been.

Going to Glenn in the morning and Friday. I'll let ya know when I find out. Caught a bunch last week on T-rigged Rage Craw on points and a chatterbait w/ rage craw as a trailer on the edges of grass in 10 ft of water. Can't tell you about Cold Creek. We've been going there 2-3 times a week, but to bowfish for asian carp and gar.
