  1. Yeah, he still has it. We fished a day tourney out of Pickwick last year in his boat and he was 3rd and I was 4th.
  2. Yeah, ol Chuck and Jack snuck day 2 away from us by a pound, but we got em back on big fish. No, we don't meet there anymore. We meet at Cajun Catfish Company restaurant on Sycamore View the 1st Tuesday of every month.
  3. Lol. Yeah, Chuck is a good guy. He was my boater in a tourney on Pickwick last year. Neal isn't in the club anymore. This is my 4th year in the club and he got out the year I started. From what I hear, not many cared for him very much. I don't personally know him, so I don't know. Actually Chuck and his partner beat us out on the 2nd day of our 2 day tourney at Kentucky Lake this past weekend. They took 1st place for day 2 with a 16.10 bag. We had 15 lbs., but we did sneak big fish away from em cuz I had a 5.10 and they had a 5.00. I'll have to ask some of the old timers bout Grenada!
  4. Definitely ain't any mountains around this Beech Lake. Bout as flatland as you can get! I'm in RiverCity Bassmasters. We're private, but anyone is welcome to join. We aren't quite as big as you guys. We usually avg 12 boats per tourney.
  5. Man, that's awesome. I've never fished it much in the winter, but I know guys that have and have done well. I'd love to hit it in the winter sometime. I'll look for ya out there. I'll just be in a plain aluminum bass tracker with 2 guys in the boat with me on Friday. As far as Kentucky Lake goes, I've never fished down that way. We always put in up near Paris Landing and we usually fish down to Lick Creek and maybe the Danville bridge, but stay in the general area of Paris Landing.
  6. Sure do. I try to get out there about 3 times a week. Been catching some good'uns early this year in Feb and March, but it's slacked off some as far as quality here in April. Caught a bunch of 4-6 lber's back then. Our best bag was 23 lbs and we had a 21 lb bag 2 days after that in March. Numbers are there, but quality has diminished. I'll be there Friday. Taking RonDef from here on bassresource out for a day. That's what I thought it was. Guys in our club had talked about going and fishing it. My buddy used to fish Poboy's years ago.
  7. I fish alot in Yellow creek. It has 3 public ramps that I know about. Closest is Stateline boat ramp and is free. Next one is Goat Island ramp and is $3 to launch and the furthest one down is Scruggs Bridge ramp which is where Yellow Creek ends and the Tenn-Tombigbee Waterway begins and runs down to Bay Springs Lake. It is also free, if I remember correctly. I've never put in at Indian Creek, but have fished it some. Yellow Creek is bigger and is almost a lake in itself with a variety of types of structure and cover.
  8. That's true. He caught them on a Zara spook. I also heard he ran down towards New Johnsonville as well to catch some of his fish. We caught several on buzzbaits in the rain as well as a weightelss fluke worked real fast just under the surface. A guy in our club caught some of his fish on a spook as well.
  9. Cool. What club do you fish?
  10. That's exactly how we caught em this past weekend in our club tourney. Roadbeds, humps, and ledges in the mouths of creeks just south of Paris Landing. Should be able to catch em in the buckbrush on any type plastic in May as well.
  11. Would have loved to Kent, but I was at Kentucky Lake for a tourney.
  12. We had a tourney there this past weekend. We caught tons of fish, just not much size. Water wasn't quite at summer pool just yet. Usually gets there about May 1st. We usually fish our club tourney the 1st weekend of May every year, but got pushed back a weekend this year to the last weekend of April. When we usually fish, the water is up in the buckbrush and the predominant pattern is pitching and flipping the bushes. Bushes were only in a ft of water or so on Friday and Saturday. We fished offshore on secondary drops, roadbeds, and humps in the mouths of creeks and caught 50 fish a day. Saturday, we had a ton of rain and severe weather roll through and the lake rose almost 2 feet and we did catch quite a few fish shallow around buckbrush with spinnerbaits and T-rigged Rage Craws, but majority were still hanging in the mouths of the creeks. You guys may be hitting it just right as this week is usually prime for us every year. Most of our fish came on 1/2 and 3/4 oz football jigs with Rage Craw trailers and C-rigged lizards with Rage Lizards. BFL fished out of Paris this past weekend also and it took 18 lbs to win. We talked with a couple of our buddies who fished it and one finished 7th in co-angler side and they were on same pattern we were. Fish are moving shallower everyday though it seems as the lake nears Summer Pool which should be May 1st. We fished mostly Creeks South of Paris in Standing Rock, Lick and Leatherwood. Bennett's usually has some good fish also. We did go North though, and did well in the grass in Panther Creek.
  13. Ditto Ron and Kent. I do most of my fishing from a boat so I don't really know of any local ponds to go and beat the banks.
  14. Yo-yoing a Sworming hornet with a Lake Fork Magic Shad or a Rage Craw for a trailer.
  15. This bait was killer for me last year on Pickwick on a C-rig! You can swim it weightless or T-rig it in which I don't use anything over 1/4 oz. Also, if you want to swim it with a weight, you can use an 1/8 oz tungsten weight, unpegged. Also, try taking a 1/4 oz weight and pegging it with a bobber stopper about 12 inches up the line and swimming the bait through cover. I usually use 4/0 EWG Superline Gammie hooks with the Eeliminator. Hope this helps!
  16. Congrats buddy. I saw where your Dad posted on Tndeer.com about your win also. Good to see a local youngster doing well. Make us proud and keep up the good work.
  17. No kidding. I think the slot may have hurt some people, being it was 14-20 inches. Some of those that zeroed may have only caught slot fish all day. How would you like to show up to the ramp with an 8.5 lber, thinking maybe you might have big fish locked up, and then you see a guy has already weighed in an 11.21 lb. hawg! At least they paid two spots for big fish.
  18. Myself and cdtac1 from here on the board went to fish the 6th annual Gibson County Bass Club Fundraiser Tourney at Gibson County Lake on Sat. There were 43 boats entered in the field. Talk about crowded on a 500 acre lake! Fishing was very tough. We were lucky enough to come in 6th place out of 43 boats with a 5 fish limit of a whopping 6.09 lbs. Hey, we got our entry fee back. Slot limit on this lake is 14-20 inches with one being kept over 20. That kinda hurts the weights, but nobody was catching fish anyway. Well except for the guy who weighed in a whopper of a sow at 11.21 lbs!!!!!!! 43 boats and 22 of the boats zeroed. Out of the 21 that did weigh in fish, only 12 had a limit. I tried to get more pics of the weigh-in, but some of the field had already weighed in and released the fish when we got to the scales. Here's the results of the payout and a pic of the 11.21 lb big bass...... 1st place - $500 - 5 fish - 13.31 lbs - 8.58 big fish - $157 2nd place - $250 - 3 fish - 13.09 lbs - 11.21 big fish - $273 3rd place - $150 - 5 fish - 8.49 lbs - 4.96 big fish 4th place - $150 - 5 fish - 6.90 lbs 5th place - $100 - 5 fish - 6.42 lbs 6th place - $50 - 5 fish - 6.09 lbs <That was us!> Mr. David Bland with his behemoth of a bass weighing in at 11.21 lbs, caught on a Strike King Red-Eye Shad in 2 ft. of water!
  19. BUT........Would you fish a brushpile that you happened upon during a tournament, not knowing who dropped the brush pile, or would that be cheating? Just a little food for thought.
  20. Been taking big sacks to win on Pickwick lately. There were 2 tourneys last weekend, that took 29, and 31 lbs to win. Water temps are in the mid to upper 50's. Most fish are coming on traps and jerkbaits over the grass and on main lake and secondary points from what I've been hearing.
  21. Happened to most everybody in our club 2 years ago in September on the Arkansas River. We were having a two-day tourney there and we all stayed at the same motel. We had like 12-14 boats and when we got up the next morning to launch, about half had all the compartments pried open and all tackle and rods stolen. Never went back.
  22. Headed back out to Glenn Springs today in West TN. Fishing was alot slower than it has been, but the ones we caught were pretty decent. Found most of our fish along creek channels gorging on threadfin shad on the surface in 25-30 ft of water. 1/2 oz Swormin Hornet tipped with a 3.5 inch Albino Lake Fork Magic Shad yo-yo'd back to the boat was the ticket. Water temps were in the mid 50's and the water was very clear.
  23. Went back out with cdtac1 today to Beech Lake to pre-fish for a club tourney I have there next Sunday. We did pretty good. Water temps were 53-55 degrees and fairly clear. Caught fish on a variety of baits from chatterbaits in the lillypads, to jigs, to crankbaits, to shakey heads. Most fish came on Shakey heads and Jigs. Keyed on banks with blow-downs. Not just any bank with a blow down would suffice. We did the best on the banks where deeper water was closer to the bank as opposed to a more gradual slope from the bank to deeper water. Most fish were between 8-15 ft. deep. My big fish was 21 inches long. No idea on weight as the battery in the scale died. Oh well, she's still swimming to be caught and weighed again. Headed to Glenn Springs in the morning with cdtac1. Will report back tomorrow!
  24. Winter had seemed like it was gone for a bit as we had temps in the mid 70s for awhile, then this front rolled through and dropped the temps into the mid 30s for the last 4-5 days. I've been catching good fish since early February, even when it has been cold though.
  25. Decided I've had about all of the cold and rain I could stand and decided that since I finally had a break, I'd leave the boat behind and hit one of my farm ponds I have permission to fish. Last weekend, and the beginning of this week, the fishing was on fire. Air temps were in the mid 70's to near 80. Then a cold front rolled through on Tuesday and the air temps have been between 35-40 for most of the week. Today it finally quit raining and hit 50 degrees and about 4 p.m. I loaded up and left to hit one of my ponds for the last couple hours of light. Fished for 2 hours and caught 7. Landed 3 on a 5/16 oz. Blk/Blu Stacey King finesse jig tipped with a Netbait Paca Chunk in blk/blu. Landed 2 on a white chatterbait and 2 on a 3/8 oz. Sworming Hornet tipped with a 3.5 inch Lake Fork Magic Shad in Albino. Fish were very tight to cover and I had a couple short strikes near brush piles on my chatterbait, so I followed back up with the jig and ended up connecting. Then it got dark and I called it a day. Not bad for a couple hours fishing.
