  1. The tread come in sizes...I will typically use size "D" for a bass rod. Some people like to use an "A". (D is thicker) The guide size is pretty much determined by measuring the diameter (metric). If it has a ceramic insert...them just measure the outside diameter of the guide. 2. I love reading the bullet points on some of these rods... Halo-Sanded™ – for a stronger, lighter rod with great sensitivity. Huh?
  3. From: The Worm In the late 1950s, Creme noticed his company was shipping numerous baits to the Tyler, Texas, area and that requests for replacement worms without three-hook harnesses were skyrocketing. He soon discovered that Texas anglers were using his replacement worms on Lake Tyler, which opened a few years earlier. Lake Tyler anglers threaded a single hook through the Scoundrel's head, rotated the hook, then buried the barb into the body to guard against snagging in the wood. "We are convinced that Lake Tyler is where the first Texas rig was fished, although we still don't know who was responsible for creating it," says Kent. Creme also discovered that anglers throughout Texas were falling in love with the plastic worm and the "Texas rig" they were using on other brush-filled lakes. That prompted him to move his business to Tyler in 1960 and capitalize on the growing plastic worm market.

  5. I've caught 21 inch smallies at Dale Hollow that would just barley tip 5lbs...in the spring!!
  6. I feel the same way...I always look forward to the day after Labor Day. School starts back...football season starts....hunting season starts. It all adds up to less lake traffic.
  7. Bummer....a flat tire can sure wreak havoc on a trailer fender.
  8. I was in BPS the other day...and I have to say...there is absolutely nothing wrong with there Graphite Series casting rods for $34.99. Bass Pro Shops Graphite Series Casting Rod
  9. I can make you one... Tom... Billy Westmoreland was from Celina, TN and fished Dale Hollow Lake. The Tennessee handle originally did not have the rings...this is just how they made then.
  10. I use a reverse clinch...and have used this for a good while...its similar to a San Diego Jam knot...and still use alot of mono.
  11. Heddon puppy... Once all the chrome is chewed off...the remaining bone color is also good.
  12. I would be more inclined to learn techniques to fish in the wind...like a drift paddle (if you have a power pole) or drift socks. Using the trolling motor into the wind... Drifting backward (with the wind) using the trolling motor to slow the boat... Adding weight to line... The wind makes actual fishing a little harder...but the fish catching is always better. That chop on the water refracts light and fish like it that way. Guide Lines - The Misconceptions Of Fishing The Windy Side Of The Lake - Otter Tail Lakes Country Association
  13. This is a story we like to tell other people we encounter on the river.... It goes like this.. Others: "How ya'll doing...catchin any thing?" No...but you aint gonna believe what we just saw. This squirrel came climbin down the end of that limb over there to get a nut. And about that time... a huge bass jumped up and got that squirrel!! <this is where people are amazed> But that's not the crazy part.... A few minutes later that big bass came back up and put a nut back on the end of that limb.
  14. It is totally nuts...bring a gold count down Rapala and a pack of Sliders
  15. Buffalo river...from Flatwoods to Lobelville.
  16. Contours will only tell you elevation...not content.
  17. Shimano Curado CU201K the lefty 200 version.
  18. If it was just for cranking the outboard... I think a car battery would be OK ...the outboard alternator would keep it charging. The big problem I see is ...if you can drain all the power from a regular battery it basically dead While you can just recharge a marine battery. Most people will buy a marine battery for cranking because they run a bunch of other electronics off it too.
  19. Todays weather forecasting is a little different than yesterdays...and a whole lot more accurate. Today...people like NOAA have literally millions of devices providing data for their analytical models. They also have the CRAY computers to do the number crunching. NOAA uses a fleet of satellites as well as other countries satellites. They use monitoring equipment on airplanes. ..as well a host of group based Personal Weather Stations.. ...according to the weather today ....we should be fishing!
  20. As if we don't know it...fishing people tend to be a little more astute to the weather...and for good reason. I am always checking wind direction and looking at a map...checking for that "ah-ha" moment.
  21. Seems to me that your totally over-thinking it... Set your drag to the pound test and forget it...(ok...maybe loosen it a tick if its Ol Ned) One thing I do is check the hook point and sharpen it if needed. Dont beat yourself up if one comes off..
  22. I pretty much taught myself...and I still have a ways to go. Its a lifetime of learning...and some of the best days on the water are not catching anything at all.
  23. Sometime I just lower the back pole half way and make casting room...
