help need advice
I have a 93 skeeter bass boat with a 200 mercury that just recently siezed up. I have the option to buy a 97 225 Merc. that was used in saltwater. 1. is it ok to buy a saltwater if I am going to use in freshwater. 2. What types of problems typically occur with saltwater motors. What would the typical compression be on those motors. It is listed on ebay so I cant see it. Any information would be great. Thanks, Jenga

engin failure
I had recently posted about water in my gas. Here comes something new. I have a 93 skeeter with a 200 merc on it. I went fishing all day on Lk Saint Clair on Sat then went to a different lake on Sun. Fished for about 15 min. then started the boat to head to a new spot got up on plane then the engin died. I thought I ran out of gas but shortly realized I didn't. Had to troll with trolling motor back to the launch. To it back to the same mechanic that found water in my gas. He said the tube that the injects the oil to mix with gas came off which I saw when he pointed it out. It was all dry-rotted and crubbled in my hand. He said that it my engin has now siezed up. I would think if the engin would have some switch in it that as soon as the oil doesnt get injected with the gas that it would shut off and keep it from siezing up. He told me it could cost up to 2500 to rebuild if my engin did sieze up. Can this happen and if so what should I do about getting it rebuilt. I don't know much about boats. Any information or advice would be great. Thanks, Jenga

help
So my mechanic said there was over a half gallon of water in the tank. he said that it probably came in from my air vent on the side of my boat. I have never heard of this happening but maybe it can. If this happens then what can I do to prevent water coming in from the vent. Thanks, Jenga

help
Thanks, I filled it up about three weeks ago and didnt fish for 2 wks. So I am assuming that it must of been from condensation. Now I know if I have this problem again to put sabilizer in. Thanks, Jenga

help
I have a 93 skeeter with a 200 merc. It has been stalling out and the other day I had to get towed in from five miles out on Lake St. Clair. I took it to a mechanic and they said I have water in my gas. How can water get in and how would the mechanic tell if there is water in my gas. Would water in gas cause a motor to stall out consistantly. Thanks, Jenga

starting question
I don't know a lot about motors so everything you have said is going over my head. I just thought it could be an easy fix, I will have my mechanic look at it. I just took out the plugs and everything looked fine. Thanks, Jenga

starting question
I have a 93 200 merc. I used my boat two wks ago and it ran fine no problems I went to go fishing yesterday put the motor on the muffs, put it in neutral, pumped the blub and choked it a couple of times and it didnt start. I turned over but wouldn't fire. Do you think I might of fouled the plugs or would it be something else. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks, Jenga

Presque Isle Bay
I am coming to the bay for the first time on April 30 though May 2 do you think the smallies will be in the area around then or no. If so what kind of bait should I use to catch them. I typically fish on LSC and tubes usually do really well there. Is that a good bait for the bay. Any information would be great. Thanks, Jenga

drop shotting Smallies
I drop shot everytime I go out on LSC. I like to let it drag and fish a faster bait with my other rod. I also like to tie a tube on for the bottom weight and have a Bass pro gobie above it. Sometimes the smallie will hit the gobie and other times they will hit the tube. I have also had two fish on at the same time. Man smallies are funl, I can't wait until Ice out. Jenga

Presque Isle Bay
Thinking of heading over there sometime this spring just wondering how the smallie action is in the spring. I have been blessed with living near Lake St. Clair, but heard nothing but good things about Presque Isle Bay. Also when would be the best time to come. Thanks, Jenga

Lake St. Clair
I was out on the bay last friday. It is going to be tough fishing. You will have to find weed beds in about 10 to 15 FOW. I caught most of my fish on a watermellon with red flake tube using a 3/8 jig head. I only caught 3 smallies in the bay nothing over 2 lbs. But I did catch a huge Largemouth near the base using a texas rigged lizard with no weight. I have heard that the good smallie fishing this time of the year is in deeper water. I have also heard good things about windmill pt. and the firecracker in the summer. Hope this helps and Falcon hope all is well. Jenga

Long Lake near Alpena MI
I am coming up north to my cabin in Atlanta and I heard that Long Lake is a good smallie lake. Just wondering if it is worth my time to bring my boat up. I was also wondering about Burt and Mullet lake. I read an article that said those lakes were good smallie lakes. If anyone could give me some info that would be great. Thanks, Jenga

Tilt and Trim problem
I took it to a mechanic and he told me that it was the motor that pushes the engin up and down that needs to be replaced. He told me that it would cost 270 dollars. Is this something that happens alot. Any info would be great. Thanks, Jenga

Tilt and Trim problem
When raising or lowering my motor I can hear what sounds like a grinding noise. It is a hydrolic tilt and trim so I don't know what would be grinding. I read in the boat maintanence article that you should check the oil level. I don't know what to do but any info would be great. Thanks, Jenga

Recarpeting my boat
I just read an article on how to re-carpet a boat. I have a few questions about how to do it. First I have an 1980 Ranger Bass boat that only cost 1800 dollars. I looked into having it done by a company and they wanted 750 dollars, there is no way I am going to spend that amount of money on something I payed so little for. I was told that I could buy some indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot and that is in my price range. It looks like they previously glued the carpet down but in the article it say's to use some sort of spray on adhesive, what should I use to take off the glue and what to attach the carpet to my boat. If anyone could give me some advice that would be great. Thanks, Jenga

Marine Carpet
I need to re-carpet my boat and was wondering where I can buy some cheap Marine carpet. I live in Michigan and would prefer to buy from someone in the detroit metro area. I need about 80 sq. feet of carpet and if anyone knows where I can get please reply. Thanks, Jenga

Another Tollingmotor question
I acutally have 2 questions. 1. I accidently put mixed to much oil in my gas about 16 oz., will that be a problem for my 1980 Johnson Javlin. 2. I have a 1994 Evinrude Tollingmotor that came with my 1980 ranger bass boat. It plugs into the front with what looks like a house outlit and when I took the boat out for the first time, the TM was working opposite. When in reverse I would go forward and in Forward I would go in reverse. I assume that the wires are crossed, But my question is when a TM is in reverse does the prop spin the opposite way then it does when in forward. Any info would be great. Thanks, Jenga

Gas tank problem
I recently bought a 1980 ranger and took it out last weekend. I only put about six gallons of gas in the tank and the gas guage said I had a 1/4 tank. I was out on the water and it seemed like I ran out of gas but the gauge said I still had just under a 1/4 tank. I tried to prime the motor but it wouldn't suck up the gas. After I got towed back to the launch I filled up the tank and tried to prime it and it worked. Do you think that the guage is broken or maybe the line was just above the fuel so it was unable to be primed. I am going to take it out today and test it again. But I am worried that maybe I should use a portable tank. Any info would be great. Thanks, Jenga

trailer question
Last Nov. I bought an 1980 Ranger bass boat with a ranger trailer. The owner was a dink and couldn't find the registration for the trailer. I have the title to the boat but it has nothing for the trailer. The MI secretary of state say's they need the serial number to get the trailer registered. I have looked everywhere on the boat and can't find it. So now I need the weight of the trailer does anyone know how much it could weigh It is an 18ft trailer. I think I could even get away with an estimate. Thanks, Jenga

Towing
I recently bought an 18 ft. ranger bass boat. I have a truck but it is really old and is not the most trust worthy. I was wondering can I pull the boat with a Ford Tauras. Thanks, Jenga
