catching bass on beds?
If you're going to fish them an effect technique I've used is take that spinnerbait and burn it across those beds 3 or 4 times. Really rip it across them and on the 5 or 6 cast when the spinner bait hits the bed KILL IT. Let if fall into the bed. By then the fish are ticked off enough watching it go by and now it's decided to attack her bed she'll jump all over it! This has work for me on several occasions! If this doesn't work you can try a technique that people will laugh at you for trying, but Carolina rig a bluegill colored crankbait. Drag the crankbait onto the bed and just shake it and let it sit still. It'll stay over the bed and everytime you move it, it will resembly a perch eating eggs. They'll tear it up. But as Roadwarrior says, Normally I'll leave those bedding females alone unless I'm fishing a tournement!

I haven't experienced this YET with the Frogg Toggs but this is my first year to own them and everyone I've talked to around here that has them swears by them!

Dang! They just rasied the bar for me!
See that's the stuff I don't understand. The technicalites. World record should mean the Biggest ever caught. Unbelievable the horse hockey that goes on with all the record keeping. Either way I don't believe Texoma has that world record smallie in it but I hoping to break the Oklahoma state record, and it might even be the Texas state record also, considering the lake is in both states! Good Luck on your quest. Maybe will both find our names in those Record books in the near furture!

Dang! They just rasied the bar for me!
Oklahoma angler has now raised the bar once again for the state record Smallmouth I'm chasing. 2 days ago all I had to do was catch an 8lb'er and I'd have it, but not anymore. Read in yesterdays paper that they just caught another state record smallie that weighed 8lbs 1oz beating the previous 7lbs 12oz smallie caught on Texoma. What was more shocking is that the smallie didn't come from Texoma. Texoma has produced like the last 5 state record smallies for Oklahoma, but not any more. The W.R. Holway Reservior in northeastern Oklahoma now holds the record! Well time to hit it again and shoot for the new goal. 8lbs 4 ounces! LOL! ;D

Outerwear
EXACTLY, I bought a set of Frogg Toggs this year and I love them. Completely water proof and VERY BREATHABLE! They're really lite and block wind as well. Buy'em big enough to wear warmer close underneath. The kicker is they cost under a 100 bucks!

Deep Deep Water
Exactly what I was going to say! Jigging spoon should be productive if the drop off is that steep. You can fish all levels of it which I don't think you fish as well with a drop-shot!

She's Here She's Here
Awesome! Hey let me know how you like that E-Tech. I've been reading up on it and thinks it's easily the best motor on the market!

eating?
The best eatting fish overall is a Flounder! Man I'll give up any other fish in the world for Flounder. AWESOME! If you've never eaten Flounder I strongly recommend you get yourself down to the Gulf of Mexico and get some! WOW they're Great!

Thoughts on all the BASS/bass fishing coverage?
Hey no problem. Didn't want to make you feel like I was coming down on you at all. I completely understand you're point. I just think the benefits out weigh the negatives of it!

eating?
Bass are ok to eat but I normally don't ever eat any. Walleye are by far the best freshwater fish to eat but we don't have any lakes close to where I live that have Walleye in them! Makes me wanna cry! :'(

Pine Flat Lake.....
I have no idea where that lake is!

Thoughts on all the BASS/bass fishing coverage?
I feel that it's great to get this much publicity. Granted if it puts more people on the water it's going to lead to more conforntation between boaters. As far as it hurting a fixed population, in my opinion that's a complete false. I think it does nothing but help. Granted you may stop catching the numbers but you'll be catching better fish. Lets take Mexico lakes for example. They say that the reason they grow big bass is because those lakes are catch and release. I say that's false. I believe that it's several things. The growing season is longer, and the talpia are a high protein baitfish, but what keeps those populations in check, from my beliefs, is the commerical fish allowed on those lakes by use of netting. Maybe Raul can comment on this considering he's in Mexico. I may have it all wrong! Some can relate to this. You have a pond and as a kid you caught some monster bass out of that pond, but now all you catch is hundreds of little fish. That's because the pond has reproduced so well that it's now over populated and the food supply won't support the numbers. Some of those fish need to be taken out to keep everything in check! Granted I believe in catch and release but more people out on the waters isn't going to hurt the populations of Most lakes! Just my 2 cents!

Baits to start fishing trip with?
A spinner bait is a reaction strike kind of bait. You can cover a lot of water while fishing with one until you locate active fish, then you can slow down and go to work on those more active fish. As for the original question, depending on the time of year I usually start off slow rolling a spinerbait, or fishing a topwater (Summer time). Then I try to pattern some fish. Try and figure out what kind of structure they're relating to and once that's achieved I'll try several things until I figure out what they are wanting that particular day! Most of the time I go out and I know that at this time last year, at this water temp, on this kind of day, I was catching fish on this, in this area, and in this type of water conditions. Then I'll start with that and go from there!

My Topwater Blues!!
No I don't use scents. Never really tried them. Yeah waiting on the hook set is probably the single most important thing when topwater fishing. It's also what people have the most problem with. When someone sees a fish blow up on a topwater they automatically get way to excited and set the hook. You have to have patience with a topwater. When you see the fish hit it WAIT til you FEEL the fish then swat him!

My Topwater Blues!!
Try many different combinations of working a topwater. You can walk the dog with the spooks stopping every now and then, or just constant motion. With your torpedo's you can retreive with a slow constant reel, or work them with a jerk and stop or the same way you would the Spooks. Same goes for all of them. Vary things around with your retreive until you find what way they like it!

Any night fishermen??
Sweet! That's what it's all about!

My Topwater Blues!!
Stop fishing becuase you are just struck with bad luck. LOL! ;D just kidding. All of the baits you mentioned will work great but the biggest problem people have with topwaters is that they want to set the hook when they see the fish explode on the bait. The is a Big NO NO! Do not set the hook until you FEEL the fish. Other wise you just jerk it away from him. If the fish blows up on the bait and you don't feel him just keeping working the bait and don't stop or reel in, in a hurry. Chances are he'll come back on the bait. If he doesn't come back on it, have a fluke or some kind of soft plastic tied on and follow up a strike with the fluke or soft plastic. You'll usually get them that way! Hope this helps!

Any night fishermen??
Yep what he said! LOL! Go with dark colors at night. Other than colors I don't fish any different at night than I do in the day other than maybe hitting some lights on the water. Bait fish will school up under lights around marinas and such at night and the fish will key on them. I like fish topwaters, and black spinner baits with a big single Colorado blade. Night fishing can be awesome!

Bass Cat and Stratos boats.
BassCats are great boats. I know several people that own them and never had any trouble out of them. For the money they are top notch! Stratos and Javelin are basically the same boat and I fished out of a Javelin several times and they are also really good boats!

Mini-Boat club?
Hey AOY, I live in southern Oklahoma and Oklahoma has a tube and mini boat club. Or they did have cause I used to fish it. You could fish out of a float tube or any boat 12ft and under with no more than a 10hp motor. Was a ton of fun, had a lot of members, and fished quite a few different lakes. All the members were really good people and I LOVED fishing in those tournaments!
