  1. Spro Bronze Eye Frog is my current favorite.
  2. When you think you are fishing too slow... slow down.
  3. Been using 20# Power Pro on spinning gear for about 6 years with absolutely no problems. I always use a palomar knot and usually have a snap swivel tied on.
  4. I use spinning gear for all soft plastics. 7' MH Veritas rod with 20# Power Pro braid.
  5. 5" Senko in Watermelon Pepper or Smoke Pearl Blue; GYB Cuttail Worm in same colors.
  6. Just started using three ABU Veritas rods this month and had never used split grips before. The adjustment period was about 10 minutes and they then felt natural. Tried using my older rods the next day and they felt big and clunky and were not nearly as comfortable as the split grips. Consequently, I am now a fan of split grips.
  7. I generally fish squarebills over grass. Bomber Square A's have been a winner for years, particularly in Oxbow Bream. Last year the KVD 1.5 and 2.5 produced well and I used mostly the chartreuse/black back and bluegill colors.
  8. It's the "Year of the Jig." Don't know why, but I have never really used them before (probably the fault of those doggone Senkos). Two weeks ago I dragged a 1/2 ounce Watermelon-Red Boo Jig with a Zoom Super Chunk watermelon trailer through the grass from the shore for about an hour just before dusk. I got 3 bites but could not hook the fish. Then the last 20 minutes before dark I landed 3 largemouth with the largest one being 4 #, which is pretty good for my lake. Gonna be lots of jiggin' this weekend.
  9. I use both and can't really tell any difference in sensitivity. Never had one come apart.
  10. Or go with the tried and true BPS Pro Qualifier.
  11. 10# is as light as I will go on a baitcaster. Anything lighter is on spinning reels.
  12. My personal preference is to always throw them back. I believe in catch and release but I also just don't like cleaning 'em. I have a lake neighbor who I sometimes share with because he loves to eat fish, and I have absolutely no problem with anybody harvesting legal fish as long as they are eaten. He's one of those guys who will clean a 3" bluegill.
  13. My wife seems to be of the opinion that a fishing tackle and gear collecting addiction beats all the other alternatives.
  14. I have two of my Pro Qualifier reels paired with Veritas rods. They work very well as a combo: good balance, good looking, etc. The Orra feels good though. I played with one up a couple of weeks ago. You probably can't go wrong with either reel. Don't spend much more time thinking. Just get out there and do some fishin'.
  15. Get the Berkley Spooling Station. Well worth the money and a real time-saver.
  16. I wouldn't. You never know when you may need to pack it in a suitcase.
  17. I use 20# braid on a spinning reel for soft plastics and have for years. Used to use a fluro leader but no longer do so. Haven't noticed any difference on catch rate without the leader.
  18. This thread make be happy I decided to add two more Pro Qualifier reels to the ole' arsenal (a 6.4:1 and a 7.1:1) when they were on sale for $79 instead of going for the shiny new stuff.
  19. I use both PowerPro and Spiderwire Stealth and like them equally well. 20# on MH spinning gear for soft plastics, 50# on H baitcaster, and 80# for muskie fishing.
  20. I agree about using snaps, but not swivels for cranks. And I, too, use Bass Pro Size 1 Duo Lock snaps (40 lb).
  21. I bought three Veritas rods at the Indy Boat Show this winter for $55 each...everybody seemed to have them on sale. I've only been able to use them twice so far, but they are a huge upgrade from the BPS Bionic Blade rods I've used for years. Thinking about getting the Veritas Winch rods down the road to replace my BPS Crankin' Sticks.
  22. I have 4 Pro Qualifiers and love them.
  23. When you think you are fishing too slow....slow down.
