  1. This is what I do. Also makes the boxes more flexible.
  2. I use the same rod primarily for spinnerbaits with a PQ reel. I have three Veritas rods and once I figured out you need to really tighten the nut holding the reel foot I did not have any problems. I guess the fact it is metal as opposed to plastic on most rods makes the difference and they did loosen up a bit at first.
  3. I have a 7' MH Veritas spinning rod I use for exactly the application you describe. Love it! Use 20# braid for soft plastics.
  4. I have had a 6'6" M and a 7' MH for years (paid only $29 and $39, respectively) and they have served me very well. That being said, I am ready to upgrade and will take a good look the Veritas Winch rod this winter.
  5. For weightless plastics I use a 7' MH Veritas spinning rod and 20# braid. With baitcasting gear when you lose a weigtless plastic in mid-cast you will have an unbelivable birds nest.
  6. I just discovered these over the weekend and haven't used it yet. Anybody have an update since the last entry in March???
  7. Prices around here are best at the Indianapolis Boat, Sport and Travel Show in February. Lots of the local and regional tackle shops and even some of the manufacturers are on hand and offer great show specials. Prices can be up to 50% off, even for new product releases. I expect most areas of the country have similar events.
  8. My winter fishing plans include picking up both the M and MH ABU Veritas Winch rods this winter to replace a couple of old BPS Crankin Sticks. I'd appreciate it if those of you who have actually fished with a Winch rod could give me your opinons. Last winter I purchased three Veritas rods and am very happy with them so far.
  9. First baitcaster l ever had was an EON when they first came out about 11 years ago. I had two, and never was comfortable with them. These days one is in the box and the other on display with a couple of antique reels and lures on a bookshelf.
  10. This has been my experience. I prefer variations of watermelon on bright days and go with junebug (purple with emerald flake) or smoke pearl blue on overcast days.
  11. Veritas 6'9" MH, PQ 6.4:1 with 17# mono.
  12. "My next goal is to cast my righty reels with my left hand and reeling with my right, so I don't have to switch hands with the righty's." I have been doing this for 2 years now and the left feels just as natural as the right. It is much more efficient, and, depending on which direction I am casting, I probably cast left-handed about 60% of the time.
  13. I use PP 50# braid for froggin' in lilly pads all the time. My rod is a 7' H Veritas with a PQ 7.1:1 reel. Still haven't met a lilly pad that can stand up to this combo.
  14. I was able to pick up three Veritas rods on super sale at the Indianapolis Boat Sport and Travel Show in February and am very happy with all three of the rods (including the hook keepers). They were quite an upgrade from my old BPS Bionic Blade rods, are very sensitive, lightweight and comfortable. Here are my setups: 7' MH spinning, Pflueger Supreme XT, 20# PP braid, all weightless soft plastics; 6'9" MH baitcasting, BPS PQ 6.4:1 reel, 17# mono for spinnerbaits, topwaters, swimming jigs, weighted plastic worms; 7' H baitcasting, PQ 7.1:1, 50# PP braid for jigs, frogs, etc. I will probably pick up a ML spinning rod this coming winter, and am considering getting both winch models, too.
  15. I have two: a 7' M and a 7' MH for deep cranking. And for the rare occasion when I throw 1/4 oz and under cranks I will use a 6.5' M spinning rod.
  16. Use 20# braid and you will hardly ever miss a fish. I also recommend spinning gear becaue if a Senko (or any plastic) flys off when you cast with a baitcaster you get an unbelievable birds nest.
  17. I started using the Owner Twistlock Light hooks last year and agree that the Senkos seem to last longer. BUT, be sure you go up one size from what you would use with a EWG hook; I use a 4/0 Twistlock for 5" Senkos where I used a 3/0 Gammy EWG before.
  18. Same here in Indiana. Most locals call them rock bass, but they are warmouth. They strike hard and put up a great fight for a small fish. They are usually buried deep in the weeds.
  19. I used green, white and black. The green was the one that attracted the most attention on that day, but I got a few stirkes on the black and white, too. The green one is a Spro Bronzeye, the black a KVD Sexy frog and the white is a Booyah Pad Crasher. I preferred the feel of the Spro Bronzeye and it seemed to cast better. My gear is a 7' H Veritas baitcaster, a Pro Qualifier 7.1:1 reel and 50# PowerPro braid.
  20. Abu Veritas 7" H, 50# Power Pro, 7.1:1 PQ.
  21. And to top it off, I used a spinnerbait afterwards and missed two good fish because I didn't adjust mentally and waited way too long to set the hook.
  22. Starting using Bronzeye frogs in the slop last weekend. I caught a nice bass on the very first cast, and then failed to land a fish on the next 15 or 20 strikes. Eventually I got the hang of the timing and landed a few more. I finally figured out that the smaller strikes were from ambitious bluegill. But it certainly is a nice rush when you get a good strike from a bass.
  23. Have had good success with the 1.5 and 2.5 squarebills and the 6XD.
  24. A black Jitterbug was my favorite until recently when I tried a black spinnerbait just like the one mentioned above.
