  1. No luck yet. After the software update and putting the transducer in a pan of water the unit is still frozen on the "Select Language" page. The touch screen feature doesn't work. If I press the Power Button the System Controls page come up and the only button that is blue is the "Standby" button. The rest of the buttons are gray, which seems to indicate it's in Standby mode and it stays there. The Home Page has yet to appear. Yahoo! It worked! Thanks Kenmitch! I love bassesource!!
  2. I'll try the grounding trick tonight. If I have to I'll stand on my head if it helps. The Lowrance Tech Help guy said it was probably the ground and he's the one who suggested submerging the transducer.
  3. Yes, I plugged in the transducer and even put it in a bucket of water as Tech Support suggested. Thanks, Kenmitch, for the software update info. I now have the update on a microSD and will install as soon as I can. Wonder why Lowrance Tech Support didn't suggest this? No luck yet. 5. That's what I was afraid I'd hear. Bummer.
  6. I should have explained it better. Powering it up us not a problem. But, when sitting on my desk, the unit loads up the maps and looks ready to go, but it seems to frozen in standby mode. I thought it was a defective unit and swapped it for a new one but it does the exact same thing. When Lowrance tech support finally re-opened after New Year's I called but the tech couldn't help. He thought it wasn't grounded properly and it would work when installed on my boat. Any suggestions?
  7. I received a Lowrance Elite ti7 for Christmas. My boat is in storage 90 miles away and won't be in the water till April. How can I set it up at home to run in demo mode so I can learn (play with it)? I already have a 12 volt kayak battery for power.
  8. I tried flourocarbon for crankbaits and have decided to go back to mono. What's your favorite mono for crankin'?
  9. Agreed re: the Stradic reels. I have 2 and they indeed ARE great reels!
  10. Was "gown" a typo or a term I've not heard before? I have some 15# PowerPro and will give it a try for deep cranking. I'm only concerned about the toothy guys for large cranks like the KVD 10.0. I don't think a heavy fluoro muskie leader would inhibit the action on that one very much.
  11. I've been using 10# flourocarbon for cranking for years, but want to do some deep cranking with large lures. Should I only bump up to 12# or go to 14#, 17# or higher? There are muskie where I fish so that is probably a factor when I use the big cranks.
  12. I'm kind of pleased that I have not spent a dime on tackle since I put the boat in storage in late October. Last year was an absolutely abysmal fishing season and my wife suggested I was over thinking everything. And, of course, she was right, so I took some time off. But I know I'll fall victim to the bait monkey about mid- April. Can't wait! Come to think of it, I really DO need a new sonar unit...
  13. Use ball-bearing swivels with duo lock snaps on spinning setups. Generally use duo-lock snaps on cranking setups because I change lures a lot. Tried the Norman Speed Clip and didn't like it at all.
  14. For guests and family I have 3 spinning combos: 2 Mitchell Avocet combos and an old BPS Bionic Blade rod with a 10 year old Symetre 2000 reel. For the real beginners I have a couple of old Galyan's baitcasting rods with Abu spincasting reels attached. They generally don't get to touch my personal gear. Except, of course, for my wife, who uses my good spinning gear occasionally.
  15. Same here except that I use 10 lb for cranking.
  16. This is what I do 100% of the time. I switched to braid for Senkos about 8 years ago and never looked back. And I use a MH spinning rod as recommended by Gary Yamamoto.
  17. Been fishing a long time but just bought my first Flippin stick a couple of weeks ago and haven't used it yet (have no idea why I waited so long). What's your best advice regarding technique, tips, jigs, other lures, etc?
  18. Any thoughts on the Pitchin'/Light Flippin' Mojo Bass?
  19. And proudly so!
  20. Agreed that nobody is dissing the older gear at all. I have lots (read "too much") current gear and love it all. But I still miss walking along the bank with a bamboo pole and an inline spinner when I was six. And well remember when my Dear Old Dad gave me my first fiberglass rod with a newfangled Zebco attached. It's ALL good!!
  21. Regarding prices for rods and reels, I think that generally speaking we get more bang for our buck than we used to with the mid-range products.
  22. After some experimentation I've settled on the Uni for fluoro. No problems and easy to tie. Thank for the reminder to only pull on the tag end, by the way.
  23. Smoke Pearl Blue is my favorite Senko color, followed by Watermelon w/black flake and Junebug.
  24. I have a telescoping Okuma EVX Graphite heavy rod rated for 1-8 ounces. It telescopes to 8'6" and is a pretty good all around rod. Retail is $119. I use it for large Bucktails, cranks, regular Bulldawgs and medium sized muskie plastics. For Pounders, etc, they have a telescoping 9'3" XH rod in the same series rated for 4-16 ounces. Regarding reels, it is really tough to beat the Revo Toro reels for muskies.
