  1. You going to the Overland Park one Will? If so I'll see you there. Me and 2 other guys from the KSU team are going. I live like 5 min. away from the place their having it. If the weathers nice out we will be fishing Saturday evening on the lake at my house, your more than welcome to come over.
  2. If you can get around 5 guys or so willing to do it then I'm positive you can. If your less than 5 I really don't know. Unfortunately there is no ABA district around KC. A district in Nebraska actually fishes a few tournaments on a lake in Marysville MO which I want to say is like an hour and a half drive from Johnson County. Another one of the KS districts fishes Stockton a couple times a year. If you're wanting to fish the tournaments most of us Kansas St. guys fish in you're looking at a good 2 hour drive out to Milford. So you're looking at some good drive time but all these places have great camping along the lakes if your willing to pitch a tent.
  3. lol, you can call him names, you can insult his intelligence, you can correct his grammar...BUT the second you try to tell him how much his bass weighs...ooh boy you have crossed the line!! I feel you man, I would have done the same, I'd say you handled it very well 8-) To my knowledge neither JCCC nor Emporia St. have tournament bass teams set up. Just to give you some background; Butler County and Dodge City Comm. Colleges already have teams as well at Fort Hays St. and Pitt. St. So you don't have to be going to a state University to compete. Go to americanbassanglers.com and check out their CAST (Colligate Angler Scholarship Tour) division. On the ABA homepage there will be a "CAST" pull down tab that leads to all the info about it. Basically, those of us who are CAST members are just any other ABA regular member except that we don't compete for money, don't worry though, we don't have to pay entry fees You only compete against the other college students for points, and if you quality, you can go to the ABA national championship and there, the top 5 college anglers win scholarships. To see all the tournaments look for the pull down tab labeled "tournaments" and you can select all the states that have ABA districts and see where and when they fish. The tournaments for around Kansas start up in March. It's a great way to get tournament experience for cheap! Check out the website, it will give you a much more detailed explanation and what all you need to do to get your school registered.
  4. Hey, basspro05, you sound like you've got plenty of fishing accolades to start a quality sponsorship, it can be tough to get started but keep with it and you will find something. I see that your 19 and in Kansas City. I just turned 20, graduated from Olathe North HS in '04. What college do you go to now? I'm at Kansas State Univ. and within our University we have a fishing club and team. I have had great luck getting sponsorships that start out as sponsorships for the entire Kansas St. Univ. Fishing Team but then turn into personal sponsors. Not having a name for myself it is much easier to affiliate myself with the university (which a lot of people can relate to) rather than by myself. With American Bass Anglers having a separate division only for colleges, it's quite easy to start up a team at your school.
  5. HHHmmmm.... 1) pocadot bubblegum 2) Watermelon sunfish and I'm still stumped on #3, very nice paint job though, well done.
  6. I would STRONGLY suggest getting a education past high school, even if it were just a 2 yr. degree. Get into biology and there are quite a few job oppertunities within each states wildlife department. Go to careers.org and look up wildlife managament, fisheries biologist, wildlife conservation, fish and game warden, or wetland managament and you might find something thats for you.
  7. I don't have any personal connections to anyone at UIC but here's an idea that might work. I'm not sure if you are familiar with Facebook.com, it is a website that hundreds of thousands of profiles for college students. Each persons profile includes their interests and so on... What you can do if you have a facebook account yourself is do a search for everyone at UIC that listed fishing as an interest. Then you can contact each and everyone of them if you wish. If I do that same search here at Kansas State I get over 500 people listed. This is a great way to find people that may be interested in joining a college fishing club. Hope that helps!

When I was fishing down in Louisiana this past October, one of my K-State friends pre-fished with a guy who had half an army's worth or weapons and artillery in the boat, he never asked him why he had it all, probably too scared. One of my other friends was fishing with his partner way in the backwaters on the Red River and while they were fishing, a hunter came out and told them to leave and never come back or else he would shoot at them, he said he was hunting for dinner and was sick of boats chasing all the deer off.
  9. Ha, here in Kansas when that happens it means get the heck off the water and start looking for tornados! I've done a good amount of research on this topic and have found that there really isn't any evidence backing the thought that barometric pressure has a direct relationship with bass. The most common theory and in my opinion the right one is that the affects of rising/falling pressure can alter a bass' behavior but the pressure change itself cannot. A simple example would be that a rising barometric pressure would generally lead to a sunny day and in return the "bass bite" always seems a little tougher because of a bass' tendency to shy away from the sun. The winning ticket is to understand how the barometric pressure affects all metrological aspects of weather, and in return how those types of weather changes relate to bass.
  10. Most of my time goes to recreational fishing but most of my money goes to tournament fishing. Up until this last year I would have considered myself a recreational fisherman, now I believe I changed gears and would call myself a tournament fisherman.
  11. Hey, I saw ya too! Nice job man!
  12. Look in my tackle box and for all shallow to mid depth crank's you'll see nothing but Bandit 200's. Pearl/Pearl Chartruse, Chrome, Chartruse/blue back, Baby Bass, and Firetiger are all must haves for me.
  13. Oh, my mistake bassdocktor, well I hope to see you all at some tournaments in the future!
  14. I don't think you have to wait until the 2nd semester. We just finished the 2005 season with the National Championship and 1 day tournaments for the 2006 season are already starting. I think you can start whenever you can get it all set up. The ABA offices will be very helpful to you. I believe they have an 1-800 number.

    Agreed! (from experience :'()
  16. I believe they don't have one there yet. You should definatly start one there. You have lots of tournaments close by. Grand, Hudson, Eufaula, Tenkiller; not bad bass lakes! If you need any info about starting one let me know.
  17. Amen!! I'm going for my major in engineering but I'm also working on a minor in bass fishing.
  18. I have a friend who just recently dug his own 3 acre lake in Missouri. He was actaully able to cut a good deal with the State of Missouri (Wildlife Dept. I would guess). They were more than willing to help cover some costs. I guess its their way of improving the fishing habitat in the State. They also helped out in the stocking process. I think it would be worth your while to try and hit up your State's Wildlife Dept. as well and see what they would be willing to do.
  19. I searched a little bit and only came up with this one- http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0023810016660a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnString=hasJS=true&_D%3AhasJS=+&QueryText=lure+retriver&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.22&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=lure+retriver&noImage=0&returnPage=search-results1.jsp
  20. My biggest tournament is coming up the first of October on the Red River in Louisiana. Currently I am 14th in the Nation. The year in general was great. I didn't catch my personal best but I caught more 4 lb.-6lb. bas than ever before. Hopefully I can cap it all off with a good performance at Nationals.
  21. I'll agree that lizards are great! Its as simple as that the lizard (or salamander) is hated by bass. Bass in return want to eat them up. I know a guy down south who uses nothing but a 8" june chillbug (junebug/ red flake) and wins big bass in his tourneys almost all the time. I really believe that an oversized lizard is one of the best "big bass baits" that there is.
  22. With all the length limits placed and the strict enforcement of them I don't think it will die down. Some places probabley have their best days behind them but take for example I lake I fish very often; the minimum length to keep a bass is 15". Sure I catch a lot of 12"-14" fish but the 15"+ fish are much harder to come by. Within a few years, all those shorter fish will have grown bigger and will cause a lot more legal sized fish to be caught. I think the right steps have been taken to make sure quality bass fishing will be around for a long time to come.
  23. Well cool! The more teams the better! Texas is a good place to be for competing in the ABA. You'll have tons of tournaments to choose from down there.
  24. Crazy thing is, I believe every single story I have heard about the Bait Monkey. I don't think for 1 second he is making it up. You really need to look into getting a patent for coining the phrase "bait monkey". All true anglers have that crazy creature inside him/her somewhere, its just a matter of finding it. Thanks to you, I found my bait monkey, oh boy did I find mine!
