  1. Around the places I fish here in Kansas, I would say lakes would warm fatser. The reservoirs are much deeper and most of the lakes have a lot of springs running into them which keeps them alot warmer. Once late summer gets here though, the lakes are like a hot tub and the fishing really dies down but can be great fishing on the reservoirs.
  2. I have heard that if you have a fish that is deep gut hooked, you can just cut the line and leave the hook in there and it will dissolve and the fish will digest it within a couple days.
  3. In my opinion, a single hook with live bait has caused much more fish damage in my days than a treble hook on lures. With artificial, I hook nearly all my fish around the mouth while using live bait has caused the hook to fall much deeper in the mouth. Of course occasionally you get a deep swallow on an artificial and a good, safe hook on live bait but for the most part it's the other way around for me.
  4. I have a Garmin iQue 3600. It might be a little too expensive but it's well worth the money. With the tap of a few buttons it will route you right to anywhere you want to go and it verbally tells you how to get there and when to turn and all that jazz. Pretty much impossible to get lost with it. I've got it where it mounts right in my car but it also snaps right off and fits in the back of my pocket. Takes just a minute to get satellites and then has accuracy within 20 feet. It can navigate you on highways and roads and also in the wilderness or on lakes. It's more of a palm pilot GPS when I think you're looking for just a GPS. I suggest you buy one that can run on AA batteries. That way you can just stuff a few AA's with you and not be worried about having to recharge it if you take off for a couple days. Look at Garmin products. They are all good quality and I'm sure you'd find them very helpful.
  5. Im right handed and I always use lefty reels. I grew up using open faced spinning reels made for lefties so thats just what feels more comfortable. I cant hardly find a baitcasting reel that is lefty so i have to switch, it feels different at first but eventually you get used to it.
  6. About 3 yrs ago, my friends and I went on a Canada fishing trip. We were fishing out of 16' lund boats with the motors that you steer with your arm on the shaft connecting to the motor(not sure what they are called). Anyway, we were fishing an area pretty good and once the bite slowed down we decided to move. We took off and got to a good speed, Id guess 40 or 50mph. I let go of the shaft for 1 sec and before I knew it, the motor jack-knifed 90 degrees and we made a perfect right turn at 50mph. The boats nose came directly up while swerving sharply right. We come to a stop and Im all disoriented. I look around and see that my friend is flailing around in the water 20 feet behind the boat. I see that all is well so I find the situation funny. I slowly take the boat to him and Im in a good mood laughing but wouldn't you know it my friend yells at me because he thought he was going to be eaten by a Muskie!
  7. For a simple plan, Id start in the warm water, and work your way to the cold water. This time of yr bass tend to move alot. Fishing from warm to cold should help you locate where the bass seem to be on that given day. Once youve got some hook up, then you know what water temp to fish for the rest of the day.
  8. the big 10 lb. It would make my day and my whole season.
  9. Ive had some good success on fishing shallow running crankbaits along shoreline later in the day if the sun is out. Not the best way to get the big ones but Ive filled many limits in the winter by doing this. I use small minnow colored crankbaits around logs close to shoreline and shallow water.
