  1. I think physical fitness can be hidden a lot easier in the sport of fishing. There are many overweight anglers, and their weight and lack of fitness doesn't seem to hold them back. I think fishing is much more in the mind than most other sports. For my vote, anglers aren't "athletes".
  2. 1990 16 ft. Jason bass boat and 12 ft. Dagger blackwater kayak
  3. Well first off, I wouldn't get your hopes up ;D Sounds like it has a great potential to be very tough. I would think the smartest thing to do would be work a small jig or plastic bait very slowlyyy along the drop off.
  4. Tose high sides are nice. I have a jon boat at home but when you load 2 guys in it the front end almost sinks, I'd love to have a few extra inches on the sides like that. Looks good man.
  5. My 2 favorite... eye=I eye'm=I'm
  6. rigged "skirt up"=rigged "backwards"
  7. I'd sure be sick right now if I live down there
  8. Can you go swimming in water that holds them? Sounds like their pirahana's!
  9. Nasty, I'm sure glad we don't have them in Kansas!
  10. The Minn Kota one sounds like the type of thing I'm looking for but I do want to make sure it holds up. I guess for $10 I can just give it a try. Unfortunatly I've got a pretty old depth finder that doesn't have a water temp feature
  11. Anyone know of a simple devise that can tell me the water temp from my boat? I would figure that one that connects to the trolling motor would be easiest but I am open to suggestions. I don't want anything fancy, just something thats user friendly and tells the water temp!
  12. Holy cow! You could pull up a skier with that much power ;D
  13. I've got (ok, fine... My Dad's got) a 1990 16 ft. Jason Bass boat w/ brand new 70 hp Yamaha 2 stroke. It could use some upgrades but he lets me keep it up at school with me so I ain't complaining.
  14. I'm feeling a little "state pride" attitude going on in this room ;D
  15. My girlfriend's Dad has a house in Richland MO. His house is on 85 acres and overlooks the Gasgonade River. Last summer I took my kayk on the river and just tore up the smallmouth. This was in August when it was really hot out. That place has to be killer in the spring/early summer. I can't wait to get down there again.
  16. I keep it simple, green pumpkin, junebug, and watermelon/red flake
  17. I generally texas rig them with a 1/4 oz. weight or so. I have heard of guys tearing them up on Grand Lake in Oklahoma Carolina rigging them.
  18. After Sunday, Rich Tauber has now become my favorite BASS pro, man is that guy hilarious! He was by far the most entertaining of the weekend, Ike wasn't bad either. Tauber is such a character and I like his style of fishing too.

Oh yes, rivalries make it all worthwhile. Because fishing competitivly in college isn't very widespread, the numbers aren't very high. Here at Kansas St. we are trying to keep the numbers on the team no higher than 10 and this might be the first year people gets turned down. As of now its just a first come first serve basis. In the future I would assume there actually will haveto be a tournament to see who makes the team and who doesn't. The biggest problem a lot of teams will have is boats. Luckily here at Kansas St. about 5 of us on the team have our own bass boats which works out nicely with 10 guys on the team. As for tournaments throughout the season, American Bass Anglers has been great. We can all fish as co-anglers so a boat isn't needed, plus we don't pay entry fee's which really help keep the $$ down. Granted we don't win money but we do have a chance at the end of the season to win scholarships. A couple new college tournament trails are in the works and sound very promising. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Hey flyrod... All I got to say is 35-7 ;D ;D ;D Actually your boys at OU need to field a team. I have heard rumors that they are in the works but nothing so far.
  21. I hit a lot of schooling bass on the Red River this past October. My boater used one of those swarmin' hornets with a fluke and didn't catch many. I used a large sized mimic minnow and had 3 keepers in a matter of minutes. This is the mimic minnow with a spinner attached, not a commonly used tournament bait but its the most realistic looking baitfish I think there is.
  22. Spending all summer at home with a private lake 50 feet out the back door, my numbers for the summer alone were phenomenal, but as for public access fishing, I can use more.
  23. For a spring cold front I like to throw a Strike King Bitsy jig in blue/black with a small matching trailer. If I feel like sizing up a bit more I love to use Eakin's jigs as well. Once it warms up nothing beats a zoom finesse worm for me. Now I know its a faux pau to many to downsize ;D but throw a finesse worm on a 1/16th oz. ballhead with a spinning reel on a 7'0'' med. light rod and you'll have a ball catching even those small ones under 5 lbs.
  24. I'm at 119th and Woodland Rd. From the actual Kansas City it's 20 minutes or so. I'm not more than a mile or two from where highways K-7 and K-10 intersect.
