  1. I would gladly exchange it for an Alphas CT SV, Abu Garcia Zenon LTX BFS or an older Conquest.
  2. The trash one isn't my beloved 51S, but the CQ BFS'17. The my older Conquests and Caltcuttas are relicts of a time when Shimano cared about refinement and ruggedness, in the same blend.
  3. It's easy to list all the *** Shimano has done over its gear. 1) The classical Shimbindo 2) The ''dartanium'' discs drags (fancy name for cardboard) 3) Micromodule I duralumin gearing (''Metanium Buzz'') 4) Plastic worm gears and pawls (early wear, with just few uses): affected the most recent reels, like the new caius, bassrise... 5) Lower quality, cheap AR clutch in the high-end Stella. If Daiwa or Doyo had did something like the listed above, I would bash it, just like I do with Shimano.
  4. The fondness of delivering crappy high-end stuff was always there, LOL! Denial is a must-have thing when being a Shimano gear enthusiast.
  5. I had the CT SV and now have the ASC and the round CT SV (Millionaire CT SV). Superb reels. The classical ones were favored by brazilian snook anglers.
  6. Several Peacock Basses, White Piranhas, one Piraya Piranhaling, one Trahira and a catch who is a testimony of BFS efficiency, a Vegetarian Piranha (Pacu). Pacu / Veggie Piranha Gear: Custom BFS 1.8m 6lb Carbon Rod Kastking Kestrel Elite BFS reel Lures: KV Lips Jr topwater twich bait (6.5g), Strike Pro Mustang Minnow 60 (6g) and generic trout minnow (3.5g).
  7. Only over casting distance and it's not a solid difference. But Daiwa reels quality just humiliates Shimano.
  8. 1- Calcutta 51B 2- Calcutta 51XT 3- Conquest 51 4- Conquest 51S 5- Conquest 101 6- Conquest BFS 2017 I'm the Shimano hater, with more Shimano reels, here. The 51 and 51S are waaaaay better constructed than the CQ BFS.
  9. Actually, there are kits converting the old 50/50s and the 2017 CQ BFS into free floating spool reels. My 51 has ont of them, microcast spool, short shaft and mag brakes.
  10. I'm here to apologize for shimano. In complaining about the lack of short shaft, free floating spool, I anticipated the hyper-revolutionary technology behind the release of the CQ BFS 2029.
  11. There is a new conquest BFS... With the same old long shaft spool, no free-floating one... Shimano really thinks very low of its consumers...
  12. Third-party spools compensate for that using the SV-like ramps in the spool, absent in the common mag-z brake.
  13. My problem is actually find one, here o Brazil.
  14. I would be happy with a Morrum 1601/3601.
  15. Classical centrifugal blocks works superbly for BFS, even more so than SVS-like ones. They use both atrittion and angular momentum changes to deliver braking. Continual aciton centrifugal brakes, like IVCB-4 works too, even feeling like a linear mag one. I believe the ceramic blocks are the culprits.
  16. Old Alphas with mag-V: somewhat overbraked, controlled, a favorite of brazilian magronce snook anglers. ASC - more friendly linear braking, freshwater casting. Alphas Air: daiwa try into bfs longcasting. SV lite: standard controlled Alphas (MagZ-Air).
  17. All top-line parts, minus the AR clutch. Starting in 2019, Shimano on its usual journey into cutting costs and quality, started using cheap AR clutches on the Stella.
  18. Usually better line laying / oscillation systems, like worm gear, double-supported transverse cams and its derivatives... Better AR clutch and drag, better sealing and bearings.
  19. Cut as short as possible. Lub them with water/saliva before tightening. Usually I don't feel it, using the modified Alberto knot, using 0.08mm braided - 0.38mm FC.
  20. Actually Daiwa ''Doyos'' are good value for money reels. But the ones like the Pr100, are uttermost crap.
  21. That's strange. All reels with the infamous buzz were the ones with duralumin gearing. Was it only used on these reels and not in the brass gearing ones? A friend of mine made electron microscope photos of a Metanium DC 2016-2019 main gear and the state of the teeth was terrible. Probably excessive copper in the alloy, in a manner affecting tensile strength.
  22. Today's BFS kayak fishing expedition: 5 Kelberi Peacocks Several White Piranhas (S. brandti) 01 San Francisco Piranha (P. piraya) 01 Oscar I thought the small P. piraya was an Oscar, because of the color pattern and the fact of fishing in a lake, when Pirayas prefer strong currents, eddies and rocks. So, took it off-water with bare hands. By blind luck I wasn't bitten... Gear: Kastking Centron Lite BFS rod + Kestrel Elite BFS reel + Hercules 6lb braided. My intent was to test this cheap setup, and it got approved, with some reservations over the rod, in which the the ECS-like reel seat is somewhat slick. Lures: small minnows, jerkbaits and topwater stickbaits.
