  1. I went through half a dozen replacement hooks this winter on a 110jr +1, and a 110jr. I didn't want to mess with perfection so I contacted MB because I wanted the exact same hooks, MB told me they don't sell them separately, but offered to send me some for free which they did. If you do a search on here, you'll find threads with hook replacement recs, but you can't get the actual stock hooks without going through MB. I'm sure somebody has found a very close replacement, but again I want to stick with the ones they come with. You can open the stock hooks real easy on a nice fish, so just remember to throw the 110jr series especially on lighter tackle and line.
  2. Interesting info, the S2 blanks are the ones that have the magic in them big time to me. Thought the Chatterbound is a S2 blank. They are the opposite of my MegaBass or Steez rods, but they produce as many if not more fish than those. Haha, the $89 comment is true and something that only the big fish caught on these rods could cure. They are boring, cosmetically neutral rods at best.....as I said above, the exact opposite of a MB rod in terms of looks.
  3. I contacted MegaBass to get their take on this subject, here is what they said: " The Vision Onetens will slow float, which will vary in speed due to many factors—water temp being just one, with water density, line type and strength being some others. It may take some experimentation, but changing the hooks or upsizing split rings could help, or trying something like suspend strips or dots is not uncommon. If the baits rise quickly it could be another issue. One note about changing the hooks: rather than going up a size, you may try using a regular wire hook of the same size (#6). Since our Katsuage are a more finesse hook, simply going with a more standard treble might help."
  4. Yeah I might quit after I caught a fish like that, after seeing the top of Everest, the Rockies become boring ?
  5. Impressive fishing! That last LGM is my favorite, look at the belly on that girl
  6. Man, that's what heaven must look like behind you.......not a single man made thing for as far as I can see. Great pics, and beautiful fish as always!
  7. The Rerange is the best warm water Jerkbait I've found. It casts like a bullet, every bit as well as 110. Very violent action, throws a ton more flash than everything I've tried besides the Shimano WM Flashboost. I've been a Jerkbait guy my whole life, but it wasn't until this past winter that I went down the high end rabbit hole. They are truly worth it. Those three particular JDM baits are for sure. 110s are just the best at cold water, I don't know what it is about them because they don't suspend perfectly out of the box, or at least not all of them. I bought about half dozen, tested them, only one suspended excellent. This is a 110jr+1 with a 125+fish over the winter including a 7+......that's the cheapest lure in my tackle box ?
  8. That's awesome Pat, congrats!
  9. 110jr+1 in GG Threadfin followed by Shimano's WM Flashboost. There isn't a best single one though. Sometimes they'll eat a bigger 110 fullsize bait, other times you need to downsize. Sometimes you need a shallow diver, other times you need a +1 and +2. Sticking with the Vision line is hard to beat as they offer a bait in every category, and they all work awesome.
  10. It's perfect because that tip allows you to rip it free......but not too much because as you know many bites come when that Chatterbait either deflects off cover or is ripped free from it. That blended blank gives you the best of both worlds, forgiveness on the top end, and lots of beef on the bottom half.
  11. Great thing about the Chatterbound is that it's got that glass tip but graphite bottom section. Perfect balance b/t weight and forgiveness. Also quite sensitive, you can feel MiniMaxs as well as Jackhammers. Knowing that if I buy a rod and don't like it, Jake will honor it is a big deal for me and why I'll buy at least one more rod from AA.
  12. Ironic you mention the Chatterbound, it's easily my favorite rod I've ever owned and I've only owned it since late summer last year. If only every big fish I hooked was on this rod. It took one of the hardest baits for me to hookup with, and made it ridiculously easy, like the first day I went out with it, it flipped a switch. I try to throw anything that is moving on that rod until I get another one, or try the Rebound rods. Chatterbaits, but Blade baits, Spinnerbaits, Tail Spinners, bigger squarebills. The rod is incredible on moving baits. Second rod is the Wide Glide. This rod has that same magic in it's parabolic action for big swimbaits and A-Rigs as the Chatterbound does for moving baits. Used this rod all winter long with A-Rigs, and in the Fall and now Spring with big swimbaits in the 2-4oz range. Third rod is the Wrench and it's very true to it's name, it's the only spinning rod I take. Super sensitive, very light, and has some really unique things like the guides and the graphite blank which the only other company that uses this proprietary blend is Boeing IIrc. Jake Boomer the owner is the real deal, he is totally committed to making the customer happy.
  13. That's awesome, would have been a heck of a day in my book. I love to catch fish, all fish.....but my obsession over big Bass precludes me from fishing for other species. I'm thrilled with by catches, it's usually big for whatever species it is if it hits Bass lure too. That cat would have likely stolen my bait, it's a crap shoot anytime I hook a nice cat lol
  14. That was fantastic, congrats Ben, you earned it!
  15. Got three of their rods, but not that model. They got some real magic in them, not the most aesthetically pleasing, but they keep fish pinned better than any other rods I've used.
  16. I'm pumped, took a break from actual fishing to watch people fishing lol ? Yeah I think so, I saw a robust lady in the boat with Ben.
  17. News was already leaked brother ?
  18. Dang just the boat would likely sell for $50k. Yeah Ben is a YTer from NE who moved to Texas. I'm a huge fan because I've learned quite a bit from him. When this over, he'll show everything in a series of videos. Check out the ones he did for the first Open, they are packed full of knowledge. His FFS videos are incredible as well. Dude just likes to fish as well, he'll fish a mud hole if he can. Don't worry buddy, you'll always be average in my book ?? p.s. JK ?
  19. I'm sure there is a better angler on Toledo Bend than Ben, but those guys won't be fishing the Classic next year like Ben ?
  20. This is Ben's first derby on Toledo Bend, there are plenty of guys who've been fishing the lake for a long time, including some for decades. Rick Clunn, who is also in it, has been fishing the lake since 1969. Perhaps a local hammer or two might have gotten a few pounds more, and they had to fish the lake for thousands of hours to do so. Ben shows up a month ago, then practice, and then does this. Ben's achievement here is incredible.
  21. The ole' Josh Jones excuse. Yet in the comment sections I still see people putting JJ's name in the same sentence with Ben's.
  22. The home lake curse usually gets most guys. He's got a limit right now and 10lb ahead, pretty much got this baby in the bag. His stock is going to skyrocket after this win, I was telling Phishli yesterday I wish I could buy stock or bet on pro Bass fishing or anglers.
  23. No way brother, another thread was started on Ben and the Bend. Yesterday the lake wasn't as hot as the first, but they are coming out with guns a blazing this morning. Dudes picking up 4 and 5 fish in the first cpl. hours. Really, really hope to see a DD come across the stage.
  24. This infuriates me the older I get. I can't imagine being put into a life or death situation by low IQ tyrants who don't understand the law, and my right to be on the public water fishing around their dock. That type of guy will screw around and find out in time, whether it's road rage, or skinning the smoke wagon on the wrong guy like above. Seen it first hand in real life, you never know who you're going to pick on that won't feel like getting picked on.
