Government
It's a group assignment for a college course. We have to write about reasons to trust the government as well as reasons to not trust the government. I'm researching the reasons to not trust, and my partner is researching reasons to trust. When I said "let's not turn this into a political discussion" I meant that I didn't want anyone arguing about what someone else wrote. I'm just looking for ideas, and I don't want this to get locked.

Government
I have to write a paper about why we should not trust the government. It has to be based on recent news stories. Let's not turn this into a political discussion. I just need some examples of news stories that would cause someone to not trust the government. Any ideas?

COD: Black Ops
I don't know anything about this game, but today one of my students was talking about going to GameStop at midnight to get one. I've been wanting to reward my oldest son for doing well in school, so I reserved one for him this evening. He doesn't know about it yet. I think he'll be pretty happy.

Just canceled an all expenses paid trip to Hawaii
You haven't lived until you've experienced a combat landing in a C130. Because of the anti-aircraft threat, they can't do the slow, gradual descent like a commercial airplane. Instead, they come in high and then kinda corkscrew to the ground. It's quite a sight to see a bunch of combat hardened Soldiers screaming and puking and praying to touch down. High speed map of the earth in a blackhawk (crashhawk) will scare the bejesus out of you too. I've spent a considerable amount of time in combat, and I've experienced a lot of heinous stuff, but getting there and back are always the scariest part for me.

How small is your boat? If you're willing to drive an hour down the road, I can put you on some good spots on Stillhouse Lake.

Advice needed......
Are you saying that because I'm in the Army, I must treat my Soldiers poorly? Do only nice, friendly people join the Air Force? Give me a break. Your experience is in the Air Force. Period. Once you have served in another branch, then you can compare how we treat our troops. That's why I made my suggestion. This guy is already in his twenties, and he's just now working on his basics in a community college. If he is serious about flying, this may be his best option. Great post, Lund Explorer. If he's dead set on being an Air Force pilot, that's exactly what he should do.

Advice needed......
You must have served as a pilot in all five branches of the armed forces, right? You're my hero. Mark my words. If he goes to an Air Force recruiter right now, the recruiter is going to try to talk him into enlisting. He isn't qualified to be an officer without a Bachelors degree, and a recruiter isn't going to sit around and wait three or four years for him to finish. He'll try to sell him on enlisting and attending the Community College of the Air Force and using tuition assistance to finish up his degree. I'm not saying that it's a bad deal, but it's not going to get him in the cockpit of a jet anytime soon either.
-
Advice needed......
Ask him if he has ever considered piloting attack helicopters in the Army instead of jets in the Air Force, and tell him to check this out. It could get him flying much quicker. http://www.goarmy.com/about/service-options/enlisted-soldiers-and-officers/warrant-officers.html

How Tequila Works
What's even worse is when the run off with another man, and the Soldier is still obligated to send them money because they're still married. Then when the divorice is final, they're awarded half of the Soldier's retirement. Fortunately for me, all my exwives were airheads, and I didn't have to deal with that.

How Tequila Works
Bro, I've been married and divoriced twice in the Army (thin women both times ), and I'm here to tell you nobody's paycheck doubles when they get married. BAH and BAS combined make up only about 20% of my paycheck. Family seperation pay for deployed Soldiers isn't enough to excited about either. I was making like $1850 as an E3, when i got married my BAH was $2100. It was Boston BAH, maybe you were getting WV BAH and it wasn't much. Okay, I should have said "almost nobody's paycheck doubles when they get married". Your's was an extreme case where as you were only an E3 living in a very high cost of living area. But let me ask you this, how much of that $2100 was actually money in your pocket? Service members in lower pay grades are almost always better off staying in the barracks where they don't have to pay rent or utilities, and they can eat in the dining facility. I'm not saying that they shouldn't get married. I just think it's stupid when they get married thinking they will make more money.
