My First Winter - Garage or Shrink Wrap
Ah… yes. We had a raccoon get into our garage once for about a week and it absolutely wreaked havoc. It scratched my wife’s car terribly, peed in my tool box, and created a total mess out of our storage. So, it’s not hard to imagine what they could do to a boat. Good call.

My First Winter - Garage or Shrink Wrap
Seems like the overwhelming consensus is to garage the boat, which is great. But why? I see a lot of boats wrapped for the winter. What are the negatives associated with leaving a boat outside in the winter?

My First Winter - Garage or Shrink Wrap
Several comments have referenced a “nice boat”. I’m not sure if mine qualifies haha. It’s a 2012 Starweld open bow. I really like it, but it’s certainly not new. She’s got all kinds of scratches, scuffs, and dings, but she fishes great and I can toss the kids off the tube at will haha.

My First Winter - Garage or Shrink Wrap
Hey guys, trying to decide how to store my boat this winter. I could put it in one side of my garage: - Pro - I’d have access to it all year to fiddle with it - Pro - it would not experience the weight of snow all winter long - Pro - cheaper - Con - garage space (not a huge deal, I’m used to keeping my truck in the driveway) - Con - the mice could get to it and chew wires and stuff Or I could have it shrink wrapped and keep it in the driveway - Pro - garage space stays free - Pro - less of a mouse habitat perhaps - Con - more pricy - Con - more wear and tear from the snow, cold, and damp - Con - can’t access it all winter to fiddle with things You experienced boat owners, what do you think? Have you found one of these arrangements significantly better for boat/owner than the other? Thanks.

The Inexplicable
Here you go. This is the thread that helped me find all the others. Glenn links a bunch of them a few posts down:

Best trailer for chatter baits/spinnerbaits?
I thought I’d be the first to say this, but I’m definitely not… the 4” Fluke. Great trailer. I’ve also had success with a Keitech swing impact that’s had the paddle tail ripped off. The tails rip off all the time and using it tail-less as a trailer is a great way to give it another use.

The Inexplicable
Hey Crickety. There have been quite a few threads on his this forum in the past about unexplained sightings and stuff. I know because I read most of them about a month ago in the hospital while one of my daughters was having surgery. Needless to say, the time passed quickly. When she woke up, she asked what I was reading about and I said “Sasquatch”. Her post-anesthesia eyes got real wide, she said “SASQUATCH” and feel right back to sleep. It was hilarious. My wife and I still laugh about it. But anyways, folks on this forum have seen lots. Ghosts, Sasquatch, aliens, etc. It’s all there and definitely worth the read.

Dobyns 703 for chatterbait
I have that rod. It will be fine. I use it for jigs of that size all the time.

Casting and Reeling With the Same Hand
I learned to fish on spinning rods, so when I finally got up the gumption to learn to use baitcasters, I went directly to left hand retrieve reels. It made sense to operate both types of rods the same way. My cousin (who introduced me to fishing) said I should use my stronger hand/arm to hold the rod, because that is what you use to fight the fish. Use your weaker hand to reel in the line. It made sense to me, and that’s what I’ve always done whether it’s with a spinning rod or a baitcaster.

Fall fishing for largemouth bass in Massachusetts
So they say… but I’ve never found the fall bite to be strong. This was my first year with a boat and I had high hopes of cleaning up this fall, but it hasn’t happened. My boat is still ready for action tho, so there’s still a chance.

Braid recommendation
I like 50 lb 832, as well.

Agreed on the LFS. Good reel.

Gun Safe Question
Most pistol safes are not even close to being air tight. Meaning: don’t worry about it.

Ol Crickety
You literally sound like the coolest person I've never met. If I ever move to Maine, I'm going to try very hard to become your friend.

With sadness, i am going to take a break from LMB fishing for a spell. a Hiatus.

Line On A Baitcaster Question
6# YoZuri hybrid. Very smooth casting, but surprisingly strong. Landed a large catfish on it today when walleye fishing. It did great.

Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
Not as cool as all of T-Billy’s giant musky, but I finally caught a very nice channel cat out of the Seneca River near Clyde, NY. This is pretty big for up here and I really enjoyed pulling this in on a light dropshot I had rigged up for walleye. Fun. Ps. I’m 6’5 220 for scale.

Hated sounds of fishing
The subtle “tink” sound of breaking line. Sounds like a gunshot in that moment.

Your favorite fishing sounds
Spinning reel drag. Or my boat mates saying “Why do you catch all the fish?” I really like that one haha.
