So I think I might be interested in tying my own jigs. Can anyone give me the run down on any tools I might need? Maybe a website where the tools and materials can be purchased? And last, is this more or less expensive to do than to just buy jigs already made? Thanks in advance!! Cliff
  2. I have been using an Abu Garcia Black Max now for over a year. I think it is a great reel for $50. I have had no problems with and it casts a country mile, I use mine on my crankin rod. Also, recently I have used the Daiwa Excelor, it is around $80 and is also a great reel, however I haven't had it long enough to vouch for its durability. I will say that neither are a Revo, thats for sure, but both are good reels in my opinion. Cliff
  3. I once had this opportunity, the fish was slowly cruising along and as it made a wide 180 degree turn I pitched a shallow crank right in front of it. Then at the right moment I cranked it really hard twice and hit the bass with the crank. It turned towards the bait, then I cranked one more time and she nailed it! Totally inhaled it. It was only about 5lbs, but it was pretty cool! Had I had a jig or worm tied on I would have used it, I just happened the have a crank at that moment. Cliff
  4. I always found them as a kid by just turning over rocks. The bigger the better.
  5. I only have a small 8' bass buster boat, I dont have any recurring probelms really, but i did have one this past weekend. There I was at the boat ramp, had everything offloaded, truck parked and ready to launch. Now I always put one foot in the boat and push off with the other while jumping into the boat. I do all these steps in one smooth motion. Last Sunday there was an extra step. While performing this manuver, I hear, RRRIIIPPPP!!!. There goes th crotch of my jeans!! No big deal right? Except there is a certain undergarmet that I do not wear. I am going commando all the time. This was NOT a small hole either and now I have a big decision to make. Do I leave now while there is no people at the ramp, or do I risk it and go fishing and see what happens? Well I went fishin(I had already paid the four bucks). Didn't even get a bite. So now it is time to go. I have my flannel shirt tied around my waist to cover the massive exposure on my front side. I wait out a ways from the ramp for 30 minutes hoping all the men, women, and CHILDREN will leave. They don't so I say screw it and go for it.. My timing was way off, I back my truck down at the same time as two others!! I get out taking care that the wind does not blow up my make shift skirt, and there is the guy next to me standing by my boat waiting to help me load it, which I appreciated, but I didn't want him to get the "show of a lifetime" so we made it quick and I avoided any opportunity to strike up conversaion with him about how the fishing was. I got the boat strapped down and got the heck outta there!! All this an I didn't even catch one stinkin fish!! ;D
  6. I have an 8' bass buster type boat. I beat the wind by getting out of it. With a 30lb minn kota it is nearly impossible to fish on windy days. So I just find a protected cove or leave the lake. My wifes step dad has a 22' champion and I swear it could be 50mph winds and he keeps that thing right where he wants it. Cliff
  7. You will encounter some "unknown" stains, however the worst thing to remove is dog hair. Vacuum won't get it, the best way, kinda nasty but works, is to wet your hands and just rub it all into a ball.
  8. I never worked for Enterprise, but I did wash cars for Avis for over three years then again for Advantage(no longer in business) for just under a year. It isn't all that bad however it can involve much more than washing cars. Taking cars for maintenance, getting the counter agents lunch(not usually allowed to leave) and any other number of errands that need to be run. And let me tell you some of those cars get NASTY!!! You wouldn't believe how disgusting some people are, makes you wonder if they treat THEIR car that way. We had some so bad we would take them to a pro detailer then charge the customer for the bill. But the upside is you get to tool around in all the newest model cars. And its a rental so you have drive it very fast and do alot of e-brake skids!!! try it out, it isn't terrible. Cliff
  9. This will be my first time fishing in the late winter/spring, with my boat. Any "rules of thumb" I should be aware of? Baits that are a "must have"? I have always heard that March and April were the best times so I want to make the best of it. Thanks in advance! Cliff
  10. I have five set ups right now. 1. 7' Custom Allstar w/ Abu Black Max=Cranks, Traps 2. 6'6" HVY Custom Allstar w/ Abu Revo-S=Jig, Creature Baits 3. 6'6" MH Custom Allstar w/Abu Revo-S=Spinnerbaits 4. 6'8" MH Custom Shikari w/ Daiwa Excelor(7.1:1)=Worms 5. 6'6" MED American Rodsmiths (spinning) w/ Abu Cardinal 801=Weightless, Flukes, Trick Worms, Shakey Heads That covers about everything for me. I also use the spinning set up for white bass/hybrid fishing. And I have a couple small crappie rigs that double as my nephews bass rigs. Cliff
  11. Lone Wolf! Until last year, now my brother has the bait monkey ridin him bigger than Dallas! Cliff

Anyone else using one of these? I have an Asus Eee PC 1005HAB. It has 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, 10" screen, and an Intel Atom N270 processor. I got it at Best Buy for around $$300. This little thing is great! It is perfect for surfing the web and checking e-mail. If your in the market and on a budget, this is the way to go! If anyone else has one let me know how you like yours. Cliff
  13. Congrats Ronnie!! Best wishes to y'all!! Cliff
  14. Captain Phil was my favorite from the show as well. I hope his two sons will carry on after him. Cliff
  15. I was just like you ony a few years ago, just getting started. I started fishing t-rigged power worms and senkos, and pretty much stuck to them until I got the hang of it. The next year jigs were the big winner for me. Last year it was mostly spinnerbaits and a little cranking. I think it is better to stick to one thing until you get some confidence in it, that is what seems to work for me. Also last year I spent alot of time just "looking" because I had a new boat and depth finder, so it was a bit more involved that fishing from the shore. Good Luck!! Cliff
  16. Cool thanks for the link, I will stay in tuch or sure. Cliff
  17. Thanks guys. Is there anywhere online I can find a good map or directions to these spots? I have never been to the area or anything. I will be driving from Waco if that helps. Thanks again Cliff
  18. Hey thanks for the info. If you don't mind I will contact you again when the time gets closer. Speaking of that, is there a certain time you would recommend? We aren't looking to csatch ten pounders all day, just want to catch some quality bass. Again I appreciate your help. Thanks Cliff
  19. My buddy and I want to make a trip to Lake Fork this spring. I am wondering if it would be worth my time. I only have a trolling motor (bass raider 8' boat) so I can't travel very far on the water. I am really just wondering if it would be worth the drive (from Waco) for a days fishing? Is there somewhere I can put the boat in that would allow me to access good fishing areas without traveling very far? Any info on this would be much appreciated. Thanks Cliff

Hey y'all, been a while since i have been online, but i am back now. In the meantime I managed to match my old personel best then last weekend in the cold i broke it. I got a nice 7lber deadsticking a fluke. It was great fun and a nice healthey fish. snapped a crappy pic with my phone, gave her a kiss and released her safely. anyway here is the bad pic and i am glad to be back online and visiting BR regulalry again! thanks Cliff
  21. Hey bro, glad you made it here!! I was there when he caught that bass in his avatar pic. He totally schooled me that week I visited. I couldn't catch a cold!! Cliff
  22. I always used saddle soap. It works great on a new baseball glove too. To keep them black just use black kiwi shoe polish. Talk to a soldier and you can learn the tricks so make them shine if thats your thing. Cliff
  23. When I was in the Army in Korea, one of the platoon sergents sent a new private to the motor pool with a piece of white chalk and a hammer. He told him to test all the tanks for soft spots in the armor. He was to tap all over the tank with the hammer and then circle the "soft spots" with the chalk. By the end of the day there were 12 tanks with little white circles all over them!! Other fun ones included a "box of grid squares" or a "spare box of reticules", thats the DIGITAL crosshair you see when you look throught the sights. I heard that one time a guy actually cut up an entire map and brought the sergent a box of grid squares.
  24. It would be worth it to get the revo if you can. If not this isnt a bad reel for $50. I have been using mine all year with no issues, I use it for crankin and it works great. Cliff
  25. I only have two planned. One will be a 7' spinning rod, don't know what blank yet. This rod will be used for flukes and the like. The other will be a 6'6" casting that will become my spinnerbait rod. It is going to be built on an Allstar 784. Cliff
