Favorite weedless lure for kids?
Thats what I use. Weedless and they will probably catch something. I just rig it up stand back! Let them practice casting. Once my nephew had a cottonmouth follow the trick worm right to the shoreline, so be careful!! Cliff

Unusual carcasses
When I lived in MN I came across a live loon that had fishing line all tangled in its wings and around its neck. I tried to help it but of course I wasn't able to get to it cuz it didn't know I was going to help. Anyway a week or so later on the opposite side of the lake I came across a Loon carcass with fishing line all tangled in its wings and around its neck. Poor bird. Wish I could have got a hold of it for a few minutes to cut it off. Cliff

Rod building (re-design) question...
I have done this. I built a rod a while back, didn't like how it turned out. So i stripped it down to the blank. The only thing that was saved was the guides. The reel seat is the biggest problem. I had to make several small cuts around with a copeing saw and break each little piece off. Was a pain in the freakin arse!! I will never do this again. However I did not damage the blank so I do plan to rebuild it someday. Like someone else said, unless it is a high end blank or has sentimental value, don't do it! Cliff P.S. Removing the old epoxy is no easy chore either!!

Flu Shot
I don't get them because I very, very rarely get sick. I don't think I have even ever had the flu. I figure give my shot to a kid or older person who actually needs it.

Need some Revo Mechanics help
I have had this problem with both of mine. All I do is disassemble it, clean it really good, re-lube and re-assemble and it fixes it. I think it is dirt in the worm gear that causes it, due to it being exposed. I pull the worm gear out completely and clean it really good then put it back together. Two drops of oil and crank a few times, good to go!

Personal Pontoon Boats
I have the Pelican Bass Raider 8. I love it. I use a 30lb Minn Kota on it and it works great. They are very stable, with the added plywood I put in mine I can stand comfortably and fish. It is light enough that I can load and unload it by myself. But nine times out of ten if there is someone at the ramp while I am loading/unloading they will offer to help. The only thing I can say is that if you plan to have more than just yourself I would go with the ten footer. The eight gets a bit cramped with two dudes and all their gear. If you have any specific questions just shoot me a PM! ;D Cliff

For All the Guys Unhappy W/their Spinnerbait Bite
Spinnerbaits have been my number one bait this summer. Mostly a Redemption in Chart/White and a Stanley in a Golden Shiner color. I do nothing to the baits, no trailer hooks, no trailer, just right out of the package. I just throw it out and retrieve it moderatly fast. I would say 85% of my bites come a crank or two after the bait hits the water. However my new PB this year came about halfway through the retrieve on that Redemption. I may try a trailer next time out though. Cliff

Unwelcome House Guest
I saw one once at work and it was completely black. No lighter sections on the legs and no white "trim" around the red. That spider was black and red, thats it. It had a male nearby with like four little egg sack lookin things. Nasty little guys. We also see Wolf Spider salot at work, they are huge!! They totally freak me out.

use for a broken rod/pieces?
I used a broken rod to make reamers for building rods. A little epoxy and some heavy grit sand paper cut into strips. works good. The guides can definetly be saved, they are easily removed, especially since you don't have to worry about damaging the blank. Cliff

Your Jobs... what are they?
Carpenter. I work for the second largest company in this country that builds stadium seating and bleachers. I build the press boxes for highschool football fields and such. Most of them are for here in Texas but we build for all over the country. Have built some for even Alaska. Just shipped a new box to Conroe, TX last week, and have three more headed for Burlison, TX soon. So the next time your at your local highschool football game, chances are my company, maybe even me, built that press box up there!! Cliff

How often do you fish?
I go every weekend in the morning for 3-5 hours then in the evening for another 2-4 hours, both days. I also go on Friday evenings as I only work till 11:30 on Friday. Sometimes I go for a couple hours during the week after work if I feel up to it. When it isn't so hot, I will stay out for longer periods. I lucked out in the wife department, she has no problems with this schedule!! ;D Cliff

New PB!!!
I hope so cuz I am headed right back to it tomorrow in my boat. I was with a friend today but there is a launch ramp close by so I can make a short run to it with my boat. I only have a trolling motor.

New PB!!!
Got this 6lber this morning on a chart/white Redemption spinnerbait (yes I paid $15 for a spinnerbait). In about two feet of water right up in that flooded junk pile you see behind me. We caught a bunch of other good fish too, too bad we decided NOT to fish the Sunday tourney, we probably would have won!! Hit like a freight train, good stuff!! Thanks for lookin!! Cliff ;D

Crankin hookset...
Hey guys, was wondering if I could get some thoughts. Recently I have been throwing a crank alot and catching fish too. But I have lost fish as well, it is always the bigger fish that seem to come unbuttoned at the boat. I am using a good crank with good hooks and a crankbait specific rod. Could there be any reason for this or ya think it is just "how it goes"? I am using a 7' rod with 12lb mono if that helps. Thanks Cliff

Another Baitcasting Question
I had the same problem.I went back to trilene XT and haven't had a problem since. :-/ It takes some patience and practice working with the line.I apparently don't have the patience for it i guess. Same here. I had trouble with braid and went back to XT with no issues. And I am using a Black Max so thats very similar to what you have.

New to bait casters - questions on first setup
I have this reel. The small thumb screw on the side is so you can remove the side plate to access the spool. You can losen this screw and it will not fall out. Turn the side plate downwards to remove. The way I do it to make it easier is to remove the side plate and remove the spool, run your line through the line guide and out the side of the reel where you pulled the spool from. Tie your line to the spool, replace spool and side plate and crank it on. I don't know what you mean by cam lock, if your referring to the dial on the same side plate you removed in the above explanation, that dial is to adjust your brakes. This is a good little reel I think. I have it and two Revo S-L's and it keeps up with them just fine. I see no difference in casting distance. The only difference I notice is just the difference in feel from a $50 reel and a $100 reel. Good luck Cliff

Depth finders, maps, and structure oh my!!
Yeah I have also been using google earth, that is very helpful too, especially since the map shows the old lake. I talked with the guy who gave me the map this evening, he had a great day! lots of fish and good ones too, but he said they were all very shallow, right up in the nasty flooded junk, guess thats where I should have been. Gonna give it another go in the AM, I will let y'all know how I do. thanks Cliff
