  1. I do pretty good out of the back of the boat with my jigs and I'm happy to let you plug away at the front trying to figure out how to get them to bite while I laugh hysterically. πŸ˜‰πŸ¦ƒ Gobble gobble Looking forward to it!
  2. I'll take ya out in the Jon boat on the Greensboro area lakes if you get some free time! Seems like there's lure savvy lunkers everywhere in the state to be honest with you.
  3. I'd go a couple lipless in 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz, a couple flat side cranks in a couple different medium ish depths, a couple different size squarebill and a couple different depth deep divers. Go transparent and silent for half and opaque and a mixture of rattling and knocking for the other half.
  4. I fish spinnerbaits in a lot of the same places I might fish a swim jig or t rig or square bill or buzzbait. You're gonna be looking for targets and heavy cover and you're going to want to try different retrieves and multiple presentations to high percentage targets from a variety of angles in lieu of fan casting systematically like you might with a lipless or underspin. Although you can catch fish fan casting a spinnerbait systematically, it's not the most efficient bait for doing this. In general, I find I get bit coming through or around a big piece of cover 90% of the time on the old spinnerbait. Things I see and go 'oh yeaaaaaah ' when I have one tied on: Standing timber Brush piles Laydown Stumps Grass edges Rip rap Flats with hard bottom Muddy water with good sunlight Ledges Humps Bluffs Remember. You want it practically bumping the objects you're targeting. Don't just chuck and wind.
  5. One time when I was fishing on the bank. I saw a man give a young boy a beetle spin and it was downright heart-worming. Another time I was fishing in the spring and it had been cold for many days and then I started catching em real good and I realized that it was cuz the water done wormed up. Another time I caught a bass in the summer and I'll tell you what. Sure as I stand here that bass was worm to the touch. Good thread y'all!
  6. I honestly don't care. I like left handed baitcasters a smidge more for topwaters and Jerkbaits but for everything else it doesn't matter much. And honestly could go either way, either way. I have to cast with my right AND my left hand regardless of which side the crank shaft is on the reel. I don't like manipulating a frog or a jerkbait with my left hand...just feels weird....but I can do it. Everything else is pretty basic and I am equally proficient both ways I suppose.
  7. Catfish and pike will eat a lure that just caught them moments after release. Bass: all over the place. On bed you can catch a male over and over sometimes. Sometimes a fish might bite a lure once a year if that. Depends on the fish.
  8. This winter I'm gonna be fishing like a man from the 80s. Spoons and blades and pencil baits and traps and spinners and jigs. Gonna be downright vintage!
  9. Been doing really well on 7/16 oz finesse jig ( @Siebert Outdoors sniper) with a chopped down rage menace on the back. Bluegill colors. I definitely think they're liking smaller profiles. Buzzbait and spinnerbait doing all the work horizontally and on top. I could probably leave home with just these 3 baits and be a far more productive angler right now. I have also been doing well on squarebill, underspin, fluke jr. Seems like when it's really calm and clear water, the finesse jig is the way to go and if there's even a tiny bit of ripple on the surface or stain to the water, spinnerbait and buzzbait seem to be the much better options.
  10. On the chatterbait I like z craw Jr or the super fluke. Spinnerbait I like a split tail trailer, trailer hook with no trailer or gambler EZ or similar swimbait.
  11. I was gonna say jig but @WRB's answer sounds more specific and fun so I'd go with that. πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
  12. We are in full swing fall mode on our lakes. You are gonna be looking at fish coraling bit in hard areas and transitions and on flats in the sunlight. Topwaters, jigs, fast moving reaction baits seem to be very effective around here for me right now. I'd stay on the sunny side of the lake and look for flatter banks. You can definitely just hop from point to point in the fall in NC and catch fish, so don't hesitate to just try doing that. Have fun!
  13. Kinda caught them on the usual suspects like jigs and spinnerbaits and crankbaits and plastics but this year I added Jerkbait, Frog and Buzzbait to my list of confidence techniques! Loooooot of fish caught on Frogs, Buzzbaits and Jerkbait this year I wouldn't have caught otherwise and a lot of fun bites and bigger fish in addition to piles of small ones.
  14. I love Zoom Black Grape/Purple Blue neon (Berkley 'Blue Fleck')/Junebug Red neon ('Christmas')/Smoke Purple neon/Manns Grape and Black Grape fire tail.
  15. Yeah hard to beat beavers and finesse worms. Swimbaits also seem to work 365 days a year.
  16. I think in ultra clear water and slick calm conditions and most importantly, highly pressured fish, buzzing a plastic will get you a bigger fish. πŸ˜‰
  17. I have become a buzzbait fanatic this fall and caught a huge pile of fish on them and I'll tell you this much: Never tossed a buzzbait that didn't catch a fish when they wanted a buzzbait.....with that in mind - favorites are these: Nichols Reflex and Impulse Picasso Hog Snatcher Accent Wheeler original and finesse Boogerman Really like them all though. Buzzbaits are so deadly.
  18. @AlabamaSpothunterI am getting Jake molds for Christmas this year! We have 3 coffee containers stuffed full of plastic for him to melt down. Cheap poop baits here I come πŸ’²πŸ’²πŸ’²πŸ’²
  19. Caught a pile of fish on the 6 inch-ish ones. I feel like these in general are much more capable of producing numbers than the super big glides and they just so happen to catch large fish also and you don't need special gear. I throw them on a flipping stick.
  20. Basically, I think the sweet spot is when your surface temps hit the high 60s and until you get to your winter time lows (probably high 40s most non northern states). Much like the pre spawn period in the spring but in reverse. The conditions I'm generally looking for is a couple hours without any responsibilities in general because if there's wet water in the fall, bass are biting in it somewhere. I'm from NC and fish lakes in the central part of the state!
  21. I enjoy fishing enough to enjoy both the big box stores that are hit or miss and the mom and pop stores with unique selections that are in need of our support. In general I go wherever is closest when I'm out and I need something and don't get too emotional about buying stuff I need to have fun.
  22. Whenever I catch fish on a Jerkbait I feel like I have to play them to avoid losing them and I think it's my favorite 'fight' in bass fishing to begin with. I shudder to think what a real mad 10+ would do to me with 8 lb line and light wire trebles on a long cast.

@king fisher catching a Mexican DD on a snoopy pole sounds like a noble pursuit that I fully endorse. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I love the Walmart fishing section. Where else would I buy my Berkley mean green 15 lb?!?!?
  24. I reckon she went, she casted, she caught. πŸ˜ŽπŸŽ£πŸ˜‚
  25. Main reason I don't live bait fish is I find it's easier to just use artificial lures to catch largemouth bass and more fun! I respect folks who are sportsmanlike about live bait fishing. It's an art form of it's own but I enjoy the hunt/strategy/figuring out the patterns on my lakes and catching giant bass that way personally. To each their own! My son live bait fishes with worms and small shad and sunfish and crappie he catches on light line because he's 11 and sometimes his patience is low with lures and mostly catches snapping turtles....occasionally a big catfish! Never once hooked a bass. I'm not too worried about the big bass. They're smart girls round here πŸ˜‰πŸŽ£
