  1. Howdy from Kentucky.
  2. Glad you're back safe and had fun. I've never traveled abroad.
  3. I am not familiar with them to quote a model number, but it'd be casting and best suited to texas rigs. Probably 6'10".
  4. The one I have, I use for crankbaits when I'm at the river fishing the white water. I've caught a carp and goodly sized gar on it. The gar was about 15 pounds I guessed by picking it up, but didn't weight it. That rod handles it beautifully, and I was glad It was that rod I got those on. It handles the heavy current really good though and I feel like I have control over my crankbait.
  5. Learning to adapt to the post frontal conditions is what my post is all about. It is certainly going to be a fun challenge.
  6. Yeah, I don't want to encounter that either.
  7. Nope, but thank you for sharing. I did see that. I actually looked at every ebay listing for traps, in hopes someone would have one listed.
  8. No sir, that one isn't white.
  9. What do you do in place of them? I have removed them and tied a loop knot in their place, but normally only when I want the quietest of presentations.
  10. Thanks ya'll.
  11. When fishing, regardless of reel type, you have to be on your game with line management. For spinning, always close the bail by hand, but also, make sure the line is in the roller and pulled taut. If you don't have it taut when you begin to reel, it can leave a loose loop on the reel, and will cause problems. Any time you are reeling and you have slack line, place your rod hand further up the rod and pinch the line with your pointer finger and thumb so that the line is taut when reeling. If you have a minor loop in your spool and it's shallow, only a few turns down, open your bail and stip line until you clear it, then wind line on with tension. If it's noticed at the end of reeling in your line, and is deeper, cast out the line as much as you can, then strip line as necessary to get to the loop. Occasionally, depending on what you're fishing and how, you might need to make a long cast to clear the line and reel it back in with tension to give yourself a reset. I put the same effort into line management with a baitcaster, but of course, with its own idiosyncrasies. Once it becomes habit you don't think about it, and it saves you a huge amount of frustration.
  12. The other day when I was fishing the post front, I had a crankbait tied on, which was running to its left. So I moved the loop to the right, and it seemed to fix it. Then, again, it started running left. I adjusted it more, and suddenly it was running way right. So I adjusted it back, and it was running left again. This went on about 10 minutes, as I was taking my time messing with it since the fish weren't biting anyways. Well, I finally got irritated with it and was thinking bad thoughts about the Fat Free Guppy... when I realized, the split ring was positioned so that the opening of the ring were rubbing on the nose loop. I repositioned the knot, so that the ends of the split ring were sideways, and the problem went away and I quickly had the crankbait running true. I'd never experienced that before, as I always am careful to tie so that the knot is not on the split ring opening, and so the opening isn't at the nose loop of the lure.
  13. No. I wasn't messing with used stuff back then. I most likely bought it from Bass Pro. I am pretty sure it was white and not off white. The Chartreuse stripes weren't very bright because they were on a white background. I can't remember if it had a chartreuse back or not.
  14. After a few days of having tough post-frontal conditions, it appears things are back to normal. I went to the private farm pond by church this afternoon after bible study, with about an hour to fish. I happened to have my Spit'n Image tied on from 2 days ago, so I started throwing it. There was a lot of surface commotion, so I was hopeful. I made 4 or 5 casts with no takers. I was considering giving up on the Spit'n Image, when right at the end of a cast, as the lure passed over the inside grass edge, something took a swipe at it. I make a short underhand roll cast about 3 feet past that spot, and worked the lure back over that spot again; Bam, a fish took my Spit'n Image under! I set the hook, and immediately my drag started peeling line off. I keep the drag a bit loose, but having 12 pound Big Game, I tightened it a little. I had my rod tip high, and as I worked the fish, trying to keep it from diving into that weed bed, he turned. I was able to get his head up, and then ski him over the weed bed which was about 7' in from shore. I stepped down to his level, as the water is a bit low. I sank in only about an inch, and I reached down and grabbed him by the lower jaw on the opposite side as my Spit'n Image's hook. That hook was firmly planted in the corner of his mouth with 2 barbs; He wasn't coming off! I unhooked him, and walked about 30' to the car and retrieved my scale. I guessed 4.0 even, but the scale read 3lb8oz! My guesser is always a bit strong. I thanked God and released the big critter after one last look. The rest of the evening produced 5 more bass and 1 bluegill, all on the Spit'n Image, one of which was entertaining. I had walked down the dam and began to work the other corner. It was pretty dark by this point, just enough to see good silhouettes. I worked my lure over a grass bed where I'd seen lots of surface activity, when I saw a small bass, probably about 8" long, come up from underneath and push my lure airborne. The Spit'n Image went flying, up and to the right as the little guy became fully airborne! I bet he was having the time of his life.
  15. How does an all black walking bait do?
  16. I wasn't familiar with Steve Kennedy.
  17. It's not on their page because it is discontinued. Yes. I hadn't heard of that so I looked it up. Definitely a Bill Lewis Trap. Back then I had only 1 other brand, the Cordell Super Spot.
  18. Very nice ones, contragulations.
  19. Money is not evil, only the love of money. There are several pros that use their platform to support and promote their religious beliefs. Ott Defoe, Andy Montgomery, and Edwin Evers. Andy has a religious themed boat wrap and jersey. Ott has a bible verse on his jersey. I have a lot of respect for the pros because they are excellent fishermen.
  20. Yes, I'm sure it was a Bill Lewis. I remember it distictly. Thanks, but again, I'm not looking to buy a lipless crankbait in the color scheme I am describing. Rather, I am looking to find a picture of a lure I had when I was a kid.
  21. Yes, I've looked there. The color I'm thinking of is discontinued. I've also looked through ebay's listing for traps to no avail.
  22. Thanks all. I appreciate the input. Sort of what I was thinking. Since getting it, I've found more uses for it than I'd thought I would.
  23. No sir. Best I recall it was completely white with chartreuse stripes.
  24. Yes, I realize this. And that is what I want to do, become an angler that can change with the weather, go where the bass are, and catch them consistently.
