Etiquette Questions?
I am wondering about etiquette in bass fishing. In Mike Iocanelli's book, Fishing on the Edge, he describes a scene where he is fishing a some riprap and another angler comes up in a hurry and starts yelling at him. The other angler said that it was his spot since he had fished it in practice. This guy essentially ran Mike off the spot. Mike says in his book that if 2 anglers are coming into the same piece of water, and if one of them has a good shot at winning the tournament and the other not, that the angler that has no chance is supposed to give way to the one that has a chance. Is this right? Also I heard this, though I can't remember if it was in the book or on the forum or where. But an angler was fishing a long stretch of riprap on one end, and another angler started way on the other end. So the first angler drove his boat down there and run him off. If I remember correctly, it was a couple hundred yards of riprap. In this instance... should the angler that got there second not have started fishing the other end? I hate to be rude, but I feel like, if someone is fishing a stretch of riprap, it's not wrong to work the other end, if you meet in the middle, someone goes around and you both work your way to the opposite end.

Family Sues Major League Fishing Over Fatal Smith Lake Tournament Crash
It's a horrible tragedy, but it was most likely an accident. Accidents happen, it's part of life. The lawsuit is not about making a change so everyone else is safer from now on, it's about money. The people that lost loved ones see their chance to never have to work again, and their lawyers are going to do the best they can to make it happen.

Bass Fishing Books?
@FloridaFishinFool, could you explain to me what Ike did wrong in the first video? I don't see that he did anything wrong. He appeared to be something like 40-50 yards from KVD. It also appears to be open water. Sure, if Ike had come up to 10 yards away and started throwing to the same laydown that KVD was doing, I could see an issue. What if KVD and Ike both found that spot in the practice, is it not as much Ike's spot as KDV's? In the second video, I can see that Ike didn't handle it the best, but I don't see how he did anything wrong again. He was mapping the grass line, he went well around the guy that was fishing there. It's no different than when fishing from the bank and someone is walking up the bank faster than you, they just walk around you and keep on going. What are you supposed to do? Hollar at the guy because you were going to fish that stretch of bank eventually when you got there? Now, I'm not saying Ike couldn't use some people skills here, but I'm saying, I don't see what he did wrong other than not being nice as he could be.

Bass Fishing Books?
I finished Ike's book. Very interesting. I'm more toned down than him, but I might put out a whoop when I catch a nice fish so I can't say I don't connect with him.

Baitcaster oiling/greasing info, Please!
Howdy. I use Lews Speed oil made by Lucas, in a needle applicator bottle I got from Academy. You don't have to do a complete disassembly in order to oil and grease your reels. Remove the side plate, if it's dry you can just put a tiny drop on each bearing. If it's wet with oil, especially if its dirty oil, wipe it clean and then reoil. There will be a bearing inside the sideplate, and one under the spool tension knob. Plus there is normally one on the spool shaft that stays with the spool. Some reels have an access point to grease the gears, some do not. The ones with an access point is easy enough, remove the cover for it and use a small screwdriver or a toothpick to put some grease on the gear. Those that don't have an access, such as my Abu Black Max, I remove the screws on the gear side, which allows the side to have about an 1/8" gap, which allows you to dab in some grease. I've been using some gun grease I had, but I do have some synthetic I'll try next time I need to grease. Once it's back together, put a couple drops on the worm gear that drives the line guide. I put a drop on either end, and one in the center.

Family Sues Major League Fishing Over Fatal Smith Lake Tournament Crash
I wasn't aware of this until today. I haven't kept very good track of things in the pro world and I don't watch much news. @FloridaFishinFool I see 2 issues with the GPS tracking of manatees. The first is, not everyone has electronics in their boats. I know, that sounds odd in today's times. So then would it be mandatory for one to have GPS installed in all vessels? The second is, if it is designed in a manner that does not force the boat to move under autopilot to miss the manatee, there will be a small number of individuals that will do their best to hit the poor critters.

Bass VS Other species
Thanks, @A-Jay and @gim. I guess my question is broad, but also specific. When I said: "How do cold fronts affect other species?" I suppose my question really is not How, but rather, Do cold fronts affect all other species? Without having any knowledge of most species, I would guess that it varies highly between species. Gim, that's awesome that you took ichthyology class. Those are beautiful A-Jay. Love the trout.

@ironbjorn you said: "Unexpectedly being tagged by Glenn is what I imagine hearing your name over the police scanner would feel like." I agree. That's a great analogy, though I haven't ever heard my know over the police scanner.

In Kentucky we may use an umbrella rig with 5 hooks best of my knowledge and research.

Did you know...
I read it. I generally try to only quote someone if I am addressing what they said directly, especially if it's not specifically part of the conversation. Like a mini side conversation. I do not get notifications to a post unless I have started the thread, someone tags me, or I am quoted. I didn't know of the replies in this thread that happened after I was tagged until I opened the thread again.

Older Bass Boats Question
I am part of an old Tracker page on facebook and I see lots of boats that do not appear to have rod lockers. What did folks do with their rods on a boat like this?

Bass VS Other species
I often see bluegill when bass fishing. And I notice, they pretty much do the same stuff no matter what, at least as far as I can tell. I am not actively targeting them, so I can't say for sure, but they don't seem nearly as fickle as bass. So, how do other species react to all of the variables that affect bass? How do cold fronts affect other species? How does current affect other species?
-
Sunny vs Overcast?
I think that each species reacts differently to all of the variables. I don't see any correlation to bluegill behavor and bass behavior for example. They both do what they do, regardless of the conditions of that affect the other.

Sunny vs Overcast?
It wasn't Alwine's bait. His data came from other anglers.

Sunny vs Overcast?
An interesting discussion, thanks all for sharing.

Overhand Roll Cast?
In Mike Iocanelli's book Fishing On The Edge, he mentions using an overhand roll cast, as well as an underhand roll cast. What is an overhand roll cast?

Good points. I had the wife video me while casting, and I used that to tweak my motion. It was very helpful.

Bass Fishing Books?
Well, I finished High Percentage Fishing by Josh Alwine. It was very informative and interesting. I started reading Fishing On The Edge by Mike Iocanelli.
-
Sunny vs Overcast?
In High Percentage Fishing by Josh Alwine, on page 68, he says that his statistics show sunny and partly sunny days to have higher catch rates than overcast days, by roughly 20%. His statistics were based on 10,000 catches. This surprises me, as I’ve always heard that overcast days are the best. I’ve heard pros talk about overcast days being better.

Your Fishing Log
I don't keep a log. I do have a pretty good memory though. I build a pattern in my head. Can anyone attest to how keeping a fishing log has helped them become a better angler?
