If you were gifted a G.Loomis NRX+...

Featured Replies

Which rod for what method would you choose? if you were to only get one, large or small mouth

A free NRX+? Whoo! I would pick a rod that I would use on every outing. For me that would be NRX+ 902S SJR.

872S Arguably the best and most sensitive  bottom contact rod ever made. Senkos in all their rigs live on this set-up. Noticeably more sensitive than even the P5 Windbuster.

NRX+ 842C MBR. I had this rod for 2 years and sold it, which was a huge mistake. I now have the classic GLX 842C MBR and will be adding the NRX+ version again in the future. The 842C MBR is my favorite stick and I use it as my power finesse rod. I primarily fish for smallmouth, but also use it for largemouth.

I have two NRX+ rods and both are for bottom contact.

One spinning and one casting.

873C CRR

852S

If I would do it over, I think I would have gotten the 872S.

I like my expensive rods but I see no reason to get a NRX+ for moving baits.

843c MBR for me please

I would happily take whatever model I was given. 😁

That said, my preference would be an 895c JWR 🙂

904c mbr... My favourite rod out of the entire lineup.. Great do it all rod... It's the most sensitive one in my hands out all the nrx I currently have..

Would you call it the perfect jig rod?

ok, so here's the long story, I'm a retired airline mechanic, and now I work at a sporting goods store in the fishing department part time for the discount. I've only been bass fishing last two years or so, but...been salmon, steelhead, halibut, tuna, trout, walleye fishing for the last 25 years, I own a North River '23 and a drift boat and a kayak, and have been doing kayak bass tournaments since I started bass fishing out of my Old Town AP136. I'm hooked on these tournaments, won my first one few weeks back. So now, these NRX+'s just showed up in our inventory, I get a pretty decent price break, I'm actually surprised how much, don't ask. Here's what we have in stock now:

853C JWR

854C JWR

873C CRR

842S SJR

843S SJR

Here's the thing about inventory at this store, might not come back, I've seen certain items show up, and once gone, not come back. I got my AP136 while we had it stock, that was two years ago, haven't seen it since. So now I want to take advantage of the NRX+ inventory while it's available.

My current line up of rods are GCX 845C CBR, Dobyns FR 735C, Dobyns FR795SB, Shimano Poison Adrena 2610ML-SB, TFO OPT S 704-1, Shimano Zodius C72MHA, Shimano Curado CDC610MA, Diawa TTRU731MHFB, Diawa TTU731MXS,  and a couple of others I've converted from walleye and such. I would say I'm pretty good on the finesse side, but how many is too many right? Let me what you think. Thanks for all the responses so far.

I am not familiar with them to quote a model number, but it'd be casting and best suited to texas rigs. Probably 6'10".

844 MBR. If you prefer the action of the JWR I like the 853/893 the best.

The 895 to me is the worst of the series.

894c is the perfect jig rod...

i may strongly consider the 873c although they call it a carolina rig rod it is highly regarded as a great jig and texas rig rod which are 2 techniques i use alot.

If you want a very good Senko/light T rig/finesse jig rod, the 853c is it.

If you want a very good dragging rod for 1/2 oz footballs jigs, with some versatility, the 873c is that.

I just tend to prefer different actions than Loomis offers. All they bring to the table is sensitivity. Also IMO their JWR rods cast like 💩

That's my biggest complaint with the 852S.

what rods do you prefer over the NRX+?

It will be almost exactly like the 7'5" Talon you have for reference, just an inch longer.

Honestly one of the absolute best rods in the entire series.  You would not be disappointed.

873 is way too soft for any heavy cover... I use mine for any baits I'll be dragging along the bottom... 894 is my go to 1/2 Oz jig rod...893 for 1/4 to 3/8... 895 is my flipping/punch rod...

I like the P5, X10, and the previous Adrena.

Nothing compares to NRX for sensitivity. I can count rocks and navigate snags with my 853c. I can't do that to the same degree with other rods or even an 843c.

However if someone was going to offer me a new 873 at cost, welllll I would probably say yes.
