I have heavy swimbait rods so I ordered some up, these appear to be a little different than the flutter and will be interesting to see if they work in my lake which we have LOTS of gizzard shad and sounds like it works well on straight line retrieve...will be interesting to see if it works around docks etc.

Offshore smaller lakes summertime heat
From what I have seen with the bigger spoons you can watch it and see the depth that it is to keep it out of stuff at least the video's I have watched it was pretty clear they could see the brush tops and the spoon.

What I was attempting to show isnhow much brush there is, every green box on that screenshot is a brush pile. After every Christmas folks donate the trees and they sink them in jan/feb every year, so there are a lot. The lake itself averages around 12ft or so, main lake towards dam goes to mid twenties but lots of the lake is 12ft or less. I hit some newer brush today, and most keepers that I caught came of brush, kind of hit and miss but will keep trying different locations and see if I can keep figuring things out. Keep trying top water, buzz bait, spook and nothing even interested. Things that I want to try are spoons around the deeper docks and big bucktail hair jigs. I think the spoons could do well over the brush piles but without ffs not wanting to get hung up but something I want to try.

Saw this one big YMMV but supposedly Sportsmanwharehouse has this bubba scale and its on clearance only at the store, again big YMMV. There is an additional 75% off of clearance at select Sportsman Warehouse locations. https://www.sportsmans.com/fishing-gear-supplies/scale-rulers/bubba-pro-series-electronic-fish-scale/p/1801972?

Offshore smaller lakes summertime heat
Yup Indont disagree, not angood skipper and need tonget better at doing that but from the local weekly derby everyone that I know is hitting the docks but your correct about getting the bait further back etc and using something different. There is a lot of brush in the lake and if I was better with my electronics inprobably could eliminate some quicker but still a wirknin progress. About to go out and decided to spit my four hours up into half and half, half hitting some brushpiles and half hitting the docks... There is just to many tonfish at one time, i need to get better at understanding which ones would be better than others...I will try to take a screenshot of my map when I get back today. Here is the lake and every one of the marking isnbrush and there is more that I do not have listed....

No channel swings, no real points...think lowland reservoir, man made, not real deep. I actually have things charted and have fished it enough to know where almost everything is located. I aslo have the water deeper than 12ft already shaded. Almost everyone beats the banks since there are lots of docks and boat lifts, just would like to figure something offshore that may be more productive

Offshore smaller lakes summertime heat
Eh there are some that are better than others....I agree with the time on the water but I also know that I am not using my electronics near to what there capability. Probably should not have used easiest but pretty sure there are some ways better than other when breaking things down. Not possible to fish every brush pile in this lake on a given day there are just to many, just like its not possible to fish all of the docks, just to many. I understand what your saying and don't disagree with the time on the water, year two for me averaging 2-3 days a week year round. I still haven't figured out winter patterns at all but this year with it being year two I do see things a bit more clearly but just like when it gets cold and fish move offshore they do similar things when it gets hot and just looking for ways or suggestions to go about finding them. I do not have FFS and not planning on getting it but as we can all agree it does wonders for helping you find offshore fish.

Offshore smaller lakes summertime heat
Yeah I just feelmlike the docks get hammered, they donhold fish and there are a bunch that are in deeper water. Lots of toons, really lots of docks and lifts.... Lots of herons, usually around the docks, lake has lots of baitfish, lots....gizzard shad, crappie, bluegill and lors of green sunfish. Last week everything seemed suspended above the thermocline, it wqs hot all week with bluebird skies. I just need to get better with my electronics. There is so much brush offshore, just not sure where to start, lol...

Offshore smaller lakes summertime heat
Posting again about one of the smaller lakes I fish in the midwest (600 acres) and I would like to think I have learned a good bit from the forum over last couple of years, things are starting to make sense but still lots to learn. My question since we have had the heat and the water temp is climbing I can tell the fish are making adjustments and are moving. Water temps are 85 and higher, thermocline has set up around 12ft or so since its a fairly shallow lake but its pretty obvious. Lake has little to no vegetation, not much rock except for the shoreline but has lots of docks and lots of brushpiles off shore. Most folks are pounding the docks and lifts and just trying to learn more about offshore even in small lakes to maybe carch more fish that are not being harrassed as much. Sorry such a long winded intro but my question is what is the easiest way to figure out which brushpiles and the likes are holding fish. I have electronics but feel like I am not using then near tonthe degree that I should but with so many brush piles just trying to learn how best to go about it and get better offshore. Thanks :)

Everything I ordered from haul came earlier in the week and was spot.on for what I ordered, Luckycraft 2.5 squarebills, yo zuri pencils and some SK 2.5 wake baits.....they are known to send some additional stuff, you just never know...haul when they are having the sells is just hands down the best deal. I mean where else are you getting luckycraft and yo-zuri for an average $3 a lure...awesome stuff.

Shimano Nexave spinning reel binding when wet...
Maybe it is the arb but just decided to move on. I picked 2 of these on clearance and paid around $30ea for them. The other spinnjng reels I have are Okuma, mixture of stratus (dicks sporting house brand made by okuma), avengers and the new ones I purchased are Ceymars. All have more bearings than the shimano for less and at least for me I have been using the okumas for 5 years and never had an issue with any of them and smoother. The only upgrade I donis I swap the oil felt drag washers with carbontex and just fish. I don't fish saltwater all freshwater but again I have some over 5 years old and still working fine sonwent with the ceymar which is a step up from the avenger but same price range as the nexave. There is a guy on ebay that has a boat load of the last generation ceymar and selling the for $40ea. Thanks for hour thoughts on what may be the issue, I will say each time it happened it was a downpour but i need to be able to use reels that get wet, never had it happen before and was surprised it was with my shimano....

Shimano Nexave spinning reel binding when wet...
Its a pretty simple reel, see attached pictures for the actual reel. It does have timing marks and that is not the issue. Let me be clear, from factory when it rained it started to bind, that time to the point you could not reel it. So I took it apart to see what in the world could the issue be, i tear down and clean and service all my reels but these were new from Shimano and I had never seeviced them. I cleaned and re-lubed the reel noting the timing marks and it works fine, not the smoothest reel since it has few bearings but it worked fine for weeks no binding UNTIL I got caught in a rain shower in friday, it poured and I waited it out and wanted to continue to fish and guess what the dang reel started to bind again only after it gets wet. Dry it out the next day I gonagain and its fine UNTIL I got caught in the rain again, almost the exact same circumstance and again after the rain it started to bind yet again to the point I had to stop fishing. Went out this morning and that reel was one that I used, it had dried out and was fine not an issue. From the factory something is going on at least with this one reel when it gets wet, not submerged just wet from rain. My other spinning reels are Okuma Avengers or dsg stratus reels that have seen many years of service, lots more bearings and not a hint of trouble. The Nexave's I picked up on clearance and was using them as my shore/bank walking outfits. For me its not worth the trouble trying to figure it out, they work fine until they get wet...Ive already purchased replacement reels and will just sell these and move along...its something inherent in the design since it happened to the reel from the factory.

Shimano Nexave spinning reel binding when wet...
Honestly I have no idea where the water is causing the issue. I have taken it apart and looks clean, no rust etc, grease where its supposed to be...let it dry and magically works again. Just disappointing, going to move on from them and go with a different mfg. Again big shimano guy but this shouldn't happen imho even on a inexpensive reel.

Shimano Nexave spinning reel binding when wet...
Yeah that was an old issue with the friction ring...ita happened to me now three times. Kind of disappointing and not surebwhat cause it. I read that the felt drag washers could also cause the issue but i replaced mine with carbontex so not sure where moisture gets to bind it up...guess I will start to figure out what to replace them with...

Shimano Nexave spinning reel binding when wet...
I'm pretty much a shimano fanboy, all of my baitcasters are shimano curado or scorpion rewls and I feel like they are made really well and never had an issue. Spinning reels I have a mix of Okuma avenger and couple years ago I picked up a couple shimano Nexave spinning reels for shore fishing. I know yhey are a cheap reel but normal price they sell for as much as the Okuma's. Third time this has happend and after yesterday the light bulb went off. I have been caught in a couple of downpours, just typical stuff and I find some cover but not totally out of the rain and when it passes I continue to fish. What I have found is if the shimano Nexave reel gets wet it will start binding up, more you use it the more it starts to bind. When it happened the forst time I didnt put the rain and getting wet to be the issue, took it apart, cleaned it up and had plenty of grease but re-greased it etc and appeared to be fine. Yesterday got caught out in the rain and the reel starts doing the same thing. Go out today and it rains on me and same thing starts to get tight. It's not like I am dunking it wtc just getting wet in the rain and I guess water makes it to the pinon gear and binds it up. Anyone seen this issue or is it just me? I think I am going to part ways with the reels, I have 2 of them jut it was the only rod I had with me and had to stop fishing, never had a reel do that before and thought I would ask. Thanks

Make sure you are searching on the haul site, not the amazon site plus they only offer the discounts qr certain times of the year....i just subscribe to this threas and usually someone posts when haul has good deals. Used to be that way with the ones near me, once Basspro came into town they removed all of the fishing stuff....sigh.
