Do you own the new Zillion?
Maybe the inductor is getting stuck sometimes?

I demand a 200-300 size Shimano Bantam
To see if anybody else would be interested in a beefed up bantam. And its not about being able to catch or not. When you have a choice between an ultra smooth reel, and another that is just "fine", the choice is simple.

Rod warranty
Bought a 4pc rod from megabass. Broke the tip, contacted megabass, they have the tip which is only 6000yen, but they refuse to sell it to me. How incredibly annoying. And the guy at the customer service wanted to sell it to be, but his superior came by when the tip was being packed, and declined my shipment. Ever since this happened, i am thinking twice before buying megabass, even tho they're my fav brand for rods.

Do you own the new Zillion?
Everyone keeps talking about this reel since they came out in 2021. Do you own any of the variants?

Meh, the Tranx is just like the Scorpion, they don't have this glassy feel the Bantam has.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
If you believe that following the used market is not accurate, you have never properly followed it. I cannot think of a single popular reel from shimano or daiwa that isn't or wasn't heavily flooded on the used market at some time. Can you? Disagree. Daiwa is the one that innovates the most between the two, and that since the 90s. You can't say that a simple DC system is not worth it for them when they've just released a significantly more sophisticated electronic braking system that syncs to your phone. If they created the IMZ, Daiwa has no limits when it comes to new creations because the IMZ and its price are ridiculous.

Its pretty simple, i watch a bunch of japanese videos on youtube, and literally all reels that sell well, are always in a bunch of videos. IMZ ain't one of those reels. Secondly, i follow the used market quite a lot, and the IMZ is so rare that they might as well not exist. So unless i have proof directly from Daiwa, there is zero chance that this reel sold well.

I demand a 200-300 size Shimano Bantam
Eh i ain't getting it. If after all this time it hasn't happened, it won't happen. They probably don't want to do it because if they were to release one in 200 size, nobody would even consider the antares md.

Why don't we have one? I know they've just announced the Scorpion MD, but that's a Scorpion, not a fan. The current Bantam is solid, compact and smooth. A 200, 250 or a 300 size Bantam frame could be an amazing swimbait reel, but we don't have one for some reason. If they were to make one, its the only reel i see competing with my Z2020.

Difference between Daiwa SV boost and mag z boost?
SV for control. Z for distance. Never tried Z Boost, tho.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
They made the IMZ, a halo product nobody bought. So yes, an investment on something much simpler that is the DC module, would be an easy investment for a massive company that is Daiwa. Btw do we know when the daiwa patent on mag brakes is expiring?

The competition alone in the DC space would bring nothing but a big positive. Shimano's IDC-5 has been around for way too long.

JDM 20 Metanium
You're in the US, they barely care about any kind of fees when you've even surpassed $800usd. In Canada, they charge you customs for a $20 lure..........

Bought 2 Legit Design rods, but by the time they're delivered, good chance it'll be snowing. This sucks.

Never use fedex, dhl or ups. You get charged much more because of brokage fees. Standard tracked shipping or EMS is the only way to order from Japan.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
I agree, but when you get your first dc reel, and hear the whine, its cool for the first season you're using the reel. Then the coolness is over. Not the same. You need to charge that thing, and i don't think any sane person wants to waste their time doing that.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
I am sensing some resistance here. Its as if those who primarily use shimano reels, don't want to see DC reels from daiwa, even when the patent is expired. But if you believe that Daiwa ain't gonna be taking advantage of this, that's living in a delusional world.

See? And this is what you're not taking into consideration. Not everyone is fishing from the boat, ESPECIALLY IN JAPAN. Casting distance is very important when you're a bank fisherman. As someone who primarily fishes from the bank, i have sold all my SV spools (SV Boost included), because they cannot compete with my other spools, even spools released in the early 2000s.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
That i know how a huge chunk of stock and cutom spools perform inside a daiwa, specially those built on the 34mm platform. You tell me that i saw the "daiwa reels are overbraked" on youtube, and are just parroting it, when in reality, i have tested more spools to know what's up than all your youtubers. To say that an SV spool casts as far as something like the SLP1010 spool, RC1016 spools, those mag-v type r, type r+ spools from the og steez and tdz, is simply not having any experience with what Daiwa has offered over the decades.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
In my opinion, its not one of the best, it is the best when the price is taken into consideration. But i am not talking about myself here. The broader community sees Daiwa reels being much more overbraked than Shimano offerings, and Daiwa having DC options will completely nulify this. Or having used well over 40 difference spools for the 34mm platform alone. Well that's simply false. Plenty of people get an slx dc instead of the superior/higher end curado. The marketing of the "omg we have a computer chip inside our reels" works wonders, especially with the massive indirect marketing that's happening on youtube and reddit alone.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
I'd bet money that its not a matter of if, but when. I am 100% positive they have already been working on it for most likely over a year. Many are crying about Daiwa being overbraked because of SV spools. What is a DC reel? Far from being overbraked. So if/when they have their dc reels, they will cover everything, from high control, best for skipping and long range bombs. They market it for long casting distances, just like what Shimano has been doing for over 20 years. Pretty simple, and they'll have their awesome gear sets, t-wing and all the custom rcs/slp spools. There is no negatives here.

Its a massive advantage for marketing alone. A Zillion DC could be huge.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
Yea i am aware, but i've seen plenty of videos on youtube people having issues with that braking system where it would change braking adjustements on its own, or set itself for maximum braking force. Not interested in the Chinese stuff tbh. Also, just found out that the DC patent has already expired in a lot of places, but not in the US. Early 2025 is when it expires in the US.

Shimano's DC patent is expiring very soon. Flood gates on Daiwa DC reels are about to open.
Was reading some stuff on reddit, and saw a guy saying how the patent for self charging DC system from Shimano is expiring early 2025. But after digging myself, it looks like its already expired earlier in 2024? So not too sure which is correct, but it does seem like Shimano's exclusivity on the DC braking is ending. Are we about to get flooded by Daiwa DC reels in 2025 and 2026?

Best Bait Caster for a Beginner?
A beginner shouldn't bother with anything high end. A tatula off of Aliexpress or Japan would be perfect, all you need is an SV spool, which will have a superior control than anything from Shimano. If you're not a beginner, but primarily use spinning reels, and want to get into baitcasters, for $210 the Zillion is unbeatable, but for $150-155 you can get the Alphas, which is as smooth. Both off of amazon japan if you don't want to hunt deals on auctions or Japanese tackle sites.
