Are my bass chasing bait?
There everywhere up here. For a couple days I had to take the shop vac and vacuum the windows to clear them off. Doesn’t help that I’m surrounded in hundreds of acres of soybeans.

Are my bass chasing bait?
This got me thinking. Lots of soybeans are getting harvested and the little orange and black Asian Beatles are everywhere. I wonder if the bluegill are eating them? I know they smell nasty when you smush them, maybe the bluegill won’t eat ‘em?

Are my bass chasing bait?
So it’s not worth trying to fish around bait in northern lakes?

Are my bass chasing bait?
How do you go about finding green weeds? Do you visually look for them in the water, or do you throw something like a crankbait through them and see if what comes up is green?

Are my bass chasing bait?
How small do you go? Like spinning rod small, or just not huge spinnerbaits and stuff?

Are my bass chasing bait?
Are there certain locations on a lake map that will catch your eye, like points or humps that you will check first?

Are my bass chasing bait?
How would you find areas with sunfish present? I would assume they would be around the healthiest grass, but would you physically see them or would you look for them on sonar? What moving baits did you have the best luck with? Is it similar to the baits guys use to catch bass eating shad schools? (Flukes, jerkbaits, topwaters, underspins, etc.) As the water temps drop into the 60s will those schools move up shallower? Sorry for all the questions @gimruis and @Pat Brown

Are my bass chasing bait?
So you find that the biggest bass are eating the small bass, and or the big sunfish that are chasing that bait? Now that you say that I remember catching a small bass probably 10-12” and it spiting up like 20 tiny minnows. What so I’ll d be the best way to target them? Maybe a glide bait, or a jig if they’re in the grass?

Are my bass chasing bait?
In all of the YouTube videos I watch, and all of the articles I read talk about largemouth chasing around baitfish this time of year. The lakes around me don’t have any shad, but they have some small baitfish like shinners etc. but I’m pretty sure that most of the bass are eating bluegill, and maybe some crawfish. This might be a hard question to answer being that you don’t have too much info about my situation but you could still maybe help me out a little. In your experience will largemouth in grassy northern lakes with bluegill as the main forage still chase around bait balls like everyone talks about? Will the young of the year bluegill kind of act like shad? If not where will the bass be and what will they be doing? I hear a lot about green weeds so that will definitely be on my radar next time I hit the water. Where else should I look?

2024 Minnesota Season Thread
I just looked at the weather and I see a few lows in the upper thirties and 36 for a low on Saturday so it might start to feel like fall here. Highs around 60 it looks like. Yeah it was pretty miserable out there, but I did flush a few birds so that makes it more bearable. I actually don’t mind it too much, we get so much winter anyway I don’t mind the summer hanging on a bit longer. Who knows maybe the longer warm season will help grow some of our bass?

Wow, fall fishing is going to be November this year, not October. It definitely feels like August out there. Was grouse hunting this morning and I cut my hunt short, way too hot.

Huh still 72? I haven’t been on the water in long time but my Omnia app says mid to low sixties around me. I wonder how accurate it is. I just checked and Omnia says around 65-66 down south in the metro area so I might be off a few degrees.

Impact of scent on bass
Hold up a fish like that and I’ll believe anything you say!! 😂

Impact of scent on bass
What makes it “saltwater” specifically? Do you still use in in freshwater?

Impact of scent on bass
What scents do you use? Everything including hard baits?

Thanks! What’s your favorite craw color? I’m just looking for an all around brownish crawfish.

Sweet thanks man. What hook do you like the best? I might as well ask the man himself! 😃

Siebert jighead profiles
I’m trying to decide between some Siebert jigs and I figured some of you might be able to help me. Does anyone have a Supreme Arkie, a Grid Iron arkie, an Extreme Arkie, a supreme grass jig, and a tungsten flipping jig on hand? If so could you please set them upright and take a top-down picture so I can see the jig head profile? Im looking for a new jig to replace the stealth Feider jig from my arsenal, I love the jig head profile of the stealth Feider but I’ve had some durability issues with it. Thanks.

Beavers and bass: The eternal debate
I’ve caught many, many fish right around/in beaver lodges. I mean think about it, that’s pretty much the only wood cover in lots of lakes, at least in my neck of the woods. Ive been fishing a beaver lodge, have a beaver swim right under my kayak and only a few minutes later I caught bass right where the beaver came from.

Dirty jigs Luke Clausen casting jig
Anyone here fish this jig? I thought it looked good as an all purpose jig to tie on and throw at pretty much any cover.

Impact of scent on bass
I’m definitely the same way, I’ve got my OCD that makes me extra careful about avoiding unnatural stuff around/on my tackle, or makes me worry about a negative scent that I probably don’t have to 😂

Anyone know where I can pick up some megastrike online? Looks like @A-Jay bought out all of tackle warehouses 😂😂

Impact of scent on bass
Lately I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about bass and how they are affected by scent. We all spend a bunch of time picking out the perfect color of worm, or the crankbait with the perfect rattle but not all of us think about the scent of our bait. I’ve also done a lot of worrying about various items and whether their smell will have a negative impact on my fishing. I mean dogs can smell cancer and I’ve heard that bass can smell 700 times better than a dog so who knows what they can smell? So what are some things we can do to cut down on negative smells? And is all of this even worth thinking/ worrying about? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. -August
