  1. Texas is heads and shoulders higher in bass management then any other State, California has zero bass management. Tom
  2. You definitely want a separate cranking-house battery to start the OB and run your electrics. You can use 2 group 27 AGM’s wired in series for the TM and tap off one battery 12V for the engine and electronics. Going with the 50AH LiFeP04 24V saves weight and more then enough power for the TM. Lithium goes bye amp hour not group size, you need to research the size in inches vs group size lead acid battery. You need a 2nd 12V marine battery to start the engine and run electronics, standard gr 24 works. The Iconics customer service can answer your questions better the I can. Tom
  3. Still popular in Canada for deep vertical jigging lake trout. The Silver Buddy replaced the Sonar lure for Smallmouth in TVA lakes. Tom
  4. Change your hook setting technique that reduces the need for rod power. When you detect a strike in lieu of hook setting with a rod swing try reeling fast loading up the line then sweep the rod back firmly. Spinning reels don’t allow you to thumb the spool so you must rely on proper drag setting. I suggest 1/3rd the line strength, about 3 lbs for your Spinning rod. Tom
  5. My 50 years of engineering career allowed my to travel a lot. Visiting customers around the world, all the States, Canada and Mexico, South America, both Western and Eastern Europe, Japan etc. Most of my peers liked to golf their own time during meetings but I liked to fish. I enjoy all types of fishing experiences and target fish I get a chance to catch at home in California. Impossible to single out a State but California offers nearly everything except Pike and Musky. Musky and giant bass became my favorite fresh water to catch on bass tackle, don’t care much about Pike. Hard to beat Baja for off shore Marlin and Tuna fishing. Tom
  6. I would add IROD IQ733C 7’3”or 1Q753C 7’5” MHF, 3/16-3/4 oz , 1/4-1 oz lures. Full premium cork handle. Tom
  7. The quality of the rain run off water that fills Casitas was poor containing Fire Check chemicals used to fight several fires burning the water shed over the past 10 years. No question that has a major impact. However all the other fish species are healthy and population exploded plus a vey good recruitment class of 6”-8” bass. It’s adult size bass that have disappeared. Castiac gets it’s water from both rain runoff and from Northern Cal via the Feather River canal system. The stripe bass population had doubled this year and the LMB recruitment class looks good but like Casitas the adults size bass are hard to find or catch. Both lakes the primary bait fish are Threadfin Shad and they are plentiful. Both lakes need electro shock surveys and the 2024 spawn cycle should expose the adult bass populations. It’s a mystery! Tom
  8. Both lakes Casitas and Castiac once considered world record bass potential producing lakes are in trouble. Lake Casitas during the 2023 season can’t produce more the 2 bass caught by any one team this year with winning tournament weights under 3 lbs. no more then 3 teams have caught more then 1 Bass this year. Lake Castiac is similar, except showing some improvement in the fall with a few limits of 5 bass weighing under 8 lbs. What happened??? No one knows for sure? Tom
  9. It may drag on the ground going over hump at the bank transition but should work , give it try! Tom
  10. With all the care to weigh in bass, big bass are still fragile with a higher post release death rate. The highest I recall was the Lake Falcon B.A.S.S. Tournament where hundreds of big bass perished. Over crowded livewell and poor handling resulted in changes to weigh in protocols. Tom
  11. Build a ramp with 2 each 3/4” 4’ x 8’ plywood down on the sand so your vehicle doesn’t get stuck since your near home. The Tilt trailer is your answer at the end of the day. Tom
  12. I had a Shorelandr tilt trailer for my 14’ Lund years ago and I believe that is what Glenn is describing. You back up to the water edge, pull the tile pin, disengage the trailer wench and like the into the water. To retrieve the boat requires a long enough wench strap to hook the boat bow to wench the boat onto the tilted trailer. Install the tilt pin and tighten the wench. Easy to do and you can lunch anywhere including onto you garage floor! Tom
  13. Keep in mind Swindle is focused on larger impoundments with multiple creek arms and Shad for baitfish. Agree in general if you can find active bass feeding, otherwise you may need to grind it out with slower moving soft plastics and jigs. Both fast and slow work for me. Tom
  14. 4” Fat Impact Electric Shad. Paint the jig head pearl white. Tom
  15. 2 different components when talking about bass fishing. The Snap or clip I want as light weight and strong enough for the lures and bass I intend to catch. I use Owner Hyper weld snaps- clips. Swivels I use Spro small power swivels, light weight and strong. Tom
  16. Did you buy it? Tom
  17. The Keep in mind there are only a few (2) battery mrf’s is the USA. All the private labeled batteries are in these 2 companies, East Penn and Northstar, If you buy at Walmart or anywhere it’s the battery. So check out Walmart or Costco as they are everywhere with very good customer service. No LiFeP04 is domestic. You don’t need a dual purpose marine battery, only a deep cycle marine AMG. Measure your battery trays, most fit group 27’s. My suggestion is 2 group 27’s wire as parallel until you get a new TM. Most TM’s today are 24V, then your wire the TM batteries in series and get a 3rd Lithium Lifep04 35 ah battery to operate the 12V electronics, lights etc. Iconic 50AH LiFeP04 will run your 12V TM and everything else 12V and weighs only 14 lbs, higher price but only 1 small battery with great warranty. Tom PS, you will need a new 10A battery charger.
  18. Couple of reasons, they must create a standout brand name that becomes very well known for excellence when they increase their price point and not lose market share. 5.0 oz total reel weight sounds fishy. As a engineer 6061-T6 isn’t easy to machine and hold dimensional stability or as strong as 7075-T6 and question that choice for this application. Tom PS, I was named Thomas for a reason.
  19. Buy it could be a collectors item in a few years.😎 Tom
  20. When you keep reeling a Spinnerbait or crankbait you will know it’s a bass when it turns and pulls back then keep reeling and sweep the rod back. Largemouth bass aren’t called bucket mouth for nothing. Tom
  21. Still loving to hear what was said? 1st congratulate your friend a 7.25 LMB is atrophy catch for NLMB. The fact the old girl rolled over didn’t indicate it was dead, it indicates it was highly stressed. The easiest way to revive a stressed bass is get the bass back into the water which your did. If the bass is struggling to remain upright hook the bass again in the upper lip with the jig and walk it around the boat until it starts to swim on it’s own. If the can remain right side up then release it. The fact it died isn’t the end of the world, it’s old bass and they are fragile fish our of water. Tom
  22. Today bass boat are built to have maximum deck area with maximum storage under the deck. The only item missing is a larger size cooler to hold fish on ice because today’s bass anglers release the catch. I suggest a tournament style walleye boat or simply put a portable cooler on the back deck behind the rear pedestal. Tom
  23. Impossible to replace wilderness fishing catching extremely strong aggressive fish with urban bass fishing. You do have the Delta with quite areas and aggressive big stripe bass to fish for that should like your new Peacock bass lures. Tom
  24. Warm fall days, especially a few consecutive days is ideal conditions imo. Finding the bass is the key and realizing the bite is more sporadic means grinding it out. The full moon was a few days back now should be good. Tom
