Mixing and Matching Rods and Reels
Please take into consideration that experienced members required years to develop their casting skills. We all struggle until our hand eye coordination is developed. Let the rod cast the lure and tune the reel so it doesn’t backlash during your casting motion. Practice until you are comfortable and go fishing as that is your goal. Tom

Mixing and Matching Rods and Reels
The heavy action rod should cast better using lure in the 3/4 oz weight. Suggest you practice with heavier lure and slow down the foreword casting motion. Tom

Changes in your choice of plastics for fall and colder water
If the temps are in mid to upper 50’s the bass are still actively feeding, use what worked a month ago. My soft plastic jig trailer is a 3” Chigger Craw or Smallie Beaver. Tom

Will a baitcaster have problems with 1.5 and 2.5 minnow lures or should I get a spinning reel?
Yes if you use a clear casting bubble. The bubble/bobber* can be adjusted for length between lure and bubble and can be partially filled with water to increase the desired weight needed. Cost is about $3 to 2 adjustable bubbles. Tom * Adjust A Bubble

Fish & Ski/"Multi-species" built on a bass boat hull? Suggestions Needed
Just pull a portable ski tow bar on your bass boat and have a boat ladder, that is what did. Most Fish ‘n Ski ‘n boats compromise in both categories, big wind shield and higher free board you don’t need. Tom

Your Favorite Horizontal and Vertical Fall Baits
Water temps below the mid 50’s is the Winter cold water period, not the Fall imo. Every lure the sinks can be fish vertically along with lures the float or dive fished horizontal. Basically covers all bass lures. My favorites are the same year around adding structure spoons and tail:spins for bass feeding on baitfish schools. Tom

Your Favourite Purple
I prefer violet shades of purple in lieu of darker grape tones in our clear water lakes. At night prefer darker shades of purple with blue neon or black with blue flakes. Not a fan dark red Burgundy tone purples but...they sometimes work well! 140 shades of purple hard tp pin point a specific shade. Tom

10lb Tatsu on Spinning
Better off using 8# Tatsu, 10# should be OK if you use line conditioner and avoid any line twisting. Tom

Freezing Your Catch
I was taught to dry off the fillets before storing or freezing the meat. Water can contains bacteria why freeze it into the meat? Before we had vacuum sealers we used bucket of water to lower the open end Zip Lock bags down into to,squeeze out all the air in the bag being careful not to:get any water in the bag, then zip it closed. Worked good but today’s vacuum sealer are much faster and no air or water in the sealed bags. Still we eat a lot of fish fresh line caught fish from Costco, always more then 2 people can eat fresh so vacuum sealing is a must. I date the sealed bags before freezing, everything gets eaten before 6 months. When I catch trout, crappie or bass only keep enough to eat fresh, not frozen. Tom

Why does my Shimano baitcasting reel get smoother in cooler weather
Regarding coefficient of thermal extension aluminum gears expand/compress in size at greater % then brass. The issue both gears react the same and colder temps increase the clearances. It’s a minute change from ambient 70 degrees to 40 degrees. The reel should use Shimano or equal gear grease viscosity. The bearing point out above by FishTank seems the more likely suspect. Tom

Where’d the Bass go?
It’s Delta a tidal river with lots of room for bass to locate as conditions favorable for them. It’s all about timing and population density at the time you are there. Broaden your locations in lieu of pounding the same spot all the time expecting the same results. Tom

Hydrogen Peroxide in live wells?
Works good, did this for decades during summer night tournaments; 1/2 cup for 15 gallon livewell oxygenates the low DO night surface water. The Trolling Motor Dr sponsored local ABA night tournaments at Castiac and Casitas in the late 80’s & 90’s and handed out info using OTC 3% hydrogen peroxide to save bass and handed out Catch & Release to contestants. Old School Darter head jig
The dart head I am talking about has a 90 degree jig light wire hook like offered by Kalin, Gamakatsu and Ower. The hook eye is centered in the dart hard shape head. The line tie location is important as it allows the head to swim back and forth with the action of the worm. The subtle swim motion triggers strike both on the fall and retrieved. Tom

Question for the Loomis guys
Loomis higher end rods have a very different “action” bending % vs power rating. Generally JWR rods are fast using the upper 1/4th of the rod length flex and power rating average or similar to Dobyns. 2 = ML, 3= M and 4 = MH, 5 = H. Tom

Daiwa bg issue
My habit with loose line using a spinning reel is running the line pinched between my index finger and thumb pad held close to the 1st large guide putting a little tension on the line as you wined the loose line back on the reel. Tom
